The game fantastic in the cutscenes and the HDR is extremely well done (or at least it looks fabulous on my LG C3 OLED TV) but otherwise graphically during gameplay, the game looks fine and not mind-blowing in the same way as the original. Draw distance is great and overall it looks nice but I don't think it is quite the visual upgrade I was expecting from a late generation PS5 game. I think Assassin's Creed: Shadows looks a lot better personally.

As far as gameplay goes, it is very familiar for the first two hours I've played with a lot of elements carried over from Tsushima and even the core storyline resembles the opening of AC: Shadows with the revenge plot (although to be fair what other plot could they have used for a samurai game?).

Good and solid so far but definitely not blown away by anything yet. This is a very safe sequel in my opinion seemingly opting to give us just more of the same and I feel that it suffers a bit from AC: Shadows having been released before it.

the odachi is so awesome, people saying they liked GoT stances better are out of their mind

The stances were a very organic way of using the rock paper scissors combat mechanic. It looked great and didn't ruin immersion like it does when Atsu is wielding a katana and out of nowhere spawns a five foot long sword from her ass.

More weapons is great, but I wish every weapon had the four stances so you had more freedom on which weapons to use. Feels weirdly restrictive now.

I sincerely hope the rps system get mitigated in the future because on lethal, CONSTANTLY switching weapons for every enemy type in a group fight get fucking crazy, i already had to do it with the double katana and enemies attack too fast to constantly think about switching weapon, and they should have made the change weapon with just the directional cross, without the need to press r2, it gets a bit clunky when you are surrounded and i'm just at the beginning.

I didn't even tried to use the wrong weapon on the wrong enemy to see how many hits more you need because at least at the beginning, one mistake means death and i didn't wanted to repeat the fight multiple times just to check.

Btw, can someone explain to me how she:

scoff away the injury from her fight with the snake? Did i saw wrong and he didn't trapassed her with his sword in the lower abdomen?

Bitch is tough :lollipop_squinting:

P.s. what camera settings are you people using? Is it me or the default is even closer to the chara than tsushi?

P.p.s. gamestop give me a code for some preorder bonus, i usually don't bother with this stuff because it feel like cheating but if it is only cosmetics i could bite the bullet...

If you want hardcore mechanics, you should be focusing on hardcore games like Ninja Gaiden.

They need to focus on story, vistas, music etc as well, some blemishes will be there.

My thoughts on gameplay after 5+ hours last night.

I think combat is just as fun as the previous game, so as long as you like the combat in GOT, you shouldn't have any issues here. The biggest change is obviously having multiple weapon types instead of stances, but I'm good with that because it adds some variety, even if it is a little unrealistic.

The chance of losing weapons if hit by enemies with a yellow prompt adds some additional threat. I tend to focus on the biggest threat when I choose my weapon, so if there is a gang with one or two pole armed, then I'll stick with the katana's until they're defeated, then change. I find it satisfying to hold and let go of the triangle button just at the right time to counter the yellow prompted attacks - and also picking up weapons and lobbing them at enemies will never get dull.

Out in the open-world if feels a lot different to GOT. Much less busy work and more natural to explore. After my 5+ hours I probably only have a dozen markers on my map, if that. It's nice to just wander around and use the scope to plan my next stop, or just stumble upon something cool. I have yet to find one fox den and I've only had to draw one of the wildlife so far. These things don't literally fall on you with every other step like in the GOT. The altars seem to be more abundant for me thankfully, as they allow you to add to your skill tree. I think I've found 2 hot springs, which are very useful too.

I like that you can find NPCs in the wild (or even enemies you've battered) who will give you clues to locations and the six. You can literally select cards to place a marker for a specific rumoured location - sometimes having to match it up with the map. This means you can pick and choose where to go rather than having a million and one things to choose from. I prefer this.

All in all, I think SP have done a good job with the sequel because whilst it's similar enough to be a Ghost game, there are enough meaningful changes to make it feel different.

Perfection in controls that you are asking for. Like pressing up on d pad to change weapons etc.

In my experience, games that are made purely for gameplay and get play tested to achieve that tend to get it right.
I mean it's not THAT bad, many people probably don't mind pressing r2.

I mean, if they have a mix of enemies, no question weapons switching should be instant.

I remember last level of Metroid prime that had weapon switching requirement cause of mix enemies. Was a nightmare.
You can make it easier for yourself by not switching all the time. You can kill any enemy with any weapon ultimately. I tend to keep my Katana's active until the pole bearers are defeated before changing back to the sword. I can still defend against any swordsmen with my katana's, and even get a few hits in if necessary. It's not a big deal.

Plus, there are a few opportunities for a bit of crowd control.

Looking for the wind chimes has me a bit frazzled, I have two and I was pretty sure I was in the right area for the third cuz my controller started going bananas but I didn't see anything when I looked around. I'm quite certain I'm just blind though so that's tomorrow's problem now lol

Out of topic question , is this your dog on your avatar ? Very cute pup !

I still think the most likely thing is that someone has screwed up with the trailers and the game will look better.
SP to my memory are a solid team technically and they wouldn't have been short of budget after the first game, which was IMO one of the prettiest games of the last 5 years.
It wouldn't make sense for it to be ugly.

It will 100% look shitloads better than the screenshots in this thread.

Season 6 Nbc GIF by The Office

And TLOU and Ratchet and Clank and.....

Anyway, they're not going to, at a time of financial strength, produce a sequel to an incredibly successful new IP that is technically inferior to it's predecessor from the previous generation.

Character armor pieces look great in the menus, so far I have three sets and they all look cohesive and awesome af.

This has been one of my favorite parts. I am so glad, so far anyway, that I have not found the traveler's armor from GoT. I had to wear that ALL of the time because of how it made your controller vibrate when collectors items were near. I am free from that burden now and get to change up and save different load outs with Atsu. It's been way better for fashion.

Plus I just remembered I got the armor of the Undying and it's amazing. Time to play.

Never said a female MC is a woke element, the ability to kill hundred of better trained and physcaly strong men on 1v1 combat is the woke element.
LOL, by that argument, every game in history is "woke".
Ghost of Tsushima (and Yakuza every other game) somehow wasn't woke when 20 warriors would surround Jin and wait one by one to attack?
Interesting logic.

Well we have female MCs kicking both gender's asses in games since their inception.
Let's reserve the term woke for the real stuff like TLOU2 ( bigot sandwich ?!) and Spiderman 2 's crap.

Enjoy the game folks. I will personally maybe grab it in the future at a steep discount. I've made peace with the graphics and DLC feel of the game but the MC's face/design falls for me in the same category as Intergalactic's one so its a skip for the time being.

"better trained" = tales from your ass

By your logic, any game with a female MC would be woke

GAF is the last place on earth where people would hold back if the game was really woke. It isnt. Those are opinions from people actually playing the game.

You're making a fool of yourself here. Just stop.

It doesn't make sense when men do this in games either. Games often have us suspend our beliefs on what is real in exchange for having fun.

ya it's getting crazy how far antiwoke bros are reaching now.

Is it really so hard to just enjoy a game and not autistically obsess over having to play as a chick. If you cant enjoy a game cause you gotta play as a woman without getting your panties in a twist you have bigger problems in your life than games being 'woke'

Also, who said they were better trained? stronger, mostly, yeh, sure, but again..... video gamezzzz

Climbing to altars in this is so fun. The only thing I wish the game had was better water but the sounds(wind blowing the sounds of my feet on the stone, etc), the climbing, the vistas. So good. Plus the rewards are way better than in Tsushima so far. A skill point is nice!

Exploring in general has been way better in this.

Also, once you get the feel for the controls, turn off the HUD. Perfection.

No one tell this guy about Ms Pacman.

Whatever you can think of. The mistake is thinking it's a "samurai movie" game. You can make a love story, a story about learning to become a better man, a story about fighting an external ennemy (Tsushimar story) etc. They sky is the limit, really.

Are you playing on the Pro or base? On the Pro it looks exceptional.

That's basically video games in general.
Drake in Uncharted killed thousands of men per game, that magically came out in waves from 2 vans, no supply shortage of guns in ammo regardless of where in the world he was but the only feelings he ever expressed was for his lame brother.

Pro, using the 60 FPS RT Pro mode. As I said the game look nice enough but I'm not really wowwed by anything graphically outside of the cutscenes, although the superb HDR implementation does add a lot to the overal presentation. I still think that Assassin's Creed: Shadows look better overall using a more modern engine, excellent hair rendering and good use of RT (Yotei only has RT ambient shadows).

Anyone playing this in English are disservicing thrmselves.

I am playing in English, only because I find that as a hearing imparied person that having characters speak in a different language to what I am seeing in the subtitles is distracting and means I'm concentrating more on reading that watching the cutscenes. Personally, I think the Engish voice over is excellent and I can hear the dialogue perfectly without the need to even look at the subtitles (which I leave on for convenience).

I saw a reddit thread with a good point , I usually play in the language they created it in. Thats the intent so that's what I do and its been quite nice not to use subs

They added Japanese lip sync for this game unlike Tsushima so it seems like they did put more care into the Japanese dubbing this time around.

But then again Jin's likeness was of his Japanese voice actor so perhaps Sucker Punch just didn't have the resources to go all in on the first game.

Both Tsushima and this one are amazing in Japanese, can't even imagine playing it in English.

when we talking about guns men or women can make a real mess, so using guns make it more believable for both men and women, thats why Lara, Ellie and Aloy doesn't feel that far fetched, they use guns and traps 90% ot the time to overcome their challenges and weakness.

So, Kill Bill is a woke movie because The Bride slaughters everyone?
First of all, Breatix Kiddo was trained by Hanzo and Pai Mei.
Second if you watched the movie you know that 3 out 5 member of the DVAS are woman that are killed in direct combat against Beatrix
Third both man Budd and Bill are killed out of direct combat, Budd is poisoned by Elle and Bill dies after Beatrix uses the FPPEHT on him.

You see, the only time i can remember Beatrix fighting men on direct combat was against the lesser goons of O-Ren and since Beatrix is better trained then them its totally believable, also 100% of those men was wearing normal cloths and not heavy Japanese armor, what makes even more believable since one slash can fuck you up.

i m not saying that the game is bad or anything, the original comment was about the game not having woke elements on it and the fact that Atsu ll best better/stronger trained man on a 1v1 direct combat is a woke element, again, that alone doesn't make the game bad, go enjoy the game, i already rented that damn thing and ll play it too this weekend. That said i ll drop this subject here.
