That 5 year plan is simultaneously hilarious and scary.

This is quite disturbing

I think this piss poor map is implying they'll take Ukraine, Greece, Spain, Austria, Misc europe and parts of Russia, yeah that shit will not fly.
I want see them try get near Europe or get near within 500 miles of Russia, just to see the massive failure of ISIS.

I see they want to poke the sleeping giants ignoring them that are Russia and getting close to China.

Im sure that will work out well.

Ignoring how they are going to get into central Europe through Turkey, a principle NATO nation.

Because they want to poke the Killer Bee Hive that is China.
Russia just sold some attack aircraft to Iraq and sent men to maintain them too. I just don't see how the last much longer with Russia, USA, Saudi Arabia, Iraq, Syria, and Iran all hating them.

ITT: Americans forgetting how America came to be, Americans forgetting that America fucked Iraq up in the 90s and kept it from recovering, and Americans forgetting that they toppled the existing government and left the region unprotected.

At this point, it is best to leave the region be. America fucked it up enough as is.

Is ISIS the new Al Queda? Have radicals split up into 2 groups now?

There are hundreds of jihadi organizations, of varying sizes and strenghts, but ISIS and al-Qaeda are two of the larger ones. Over the years, al-Qaeda has become a sort of clearinghouse of sorts for jihadis, but most of the actual violence is carried out by local "franchises" in various troubled areas. ISIS used to be called the Islamic State of Iraq (ISI), and they were al-Qaeda's official Iraqi branch. After the Syrian Civil War started, they spread over the border to participate in that conflict as well. However, al-Qaeda already had an affiliate in Syria, called the Jabhat al-Nusra (aka the Al-Nusra Front). Last year, the ISI announced they were merging with al-Nusra, and added the extra "S" to their name to signify their new multinational status, but al-Qaeda central tried to veto the idea. However, the leader of ISIS basically told al-Qaeda to piss off, so they've been at odds since then. The Syrian jihadis are split between those who sided with ISIS and those who sided with al-Qaeda, and there's been a bloody turf war going on there in parallel to the myriad other aspects of the Syrian Civil War.

Your ideas are intriguing and I wish to subscribe to your newsletter.

Thanks for the education on that. So basically ISIS in its current form was born due to a it a merger (with the Syrian affiliate ) and then a split ( With al-queda )

Also, Red Panda's are awesome

Appreciate the quick summary.

I wonder how long until third parties become involved in this.

they should really get over Andalus; it was never theirs to being with.
It's like saying the Visigoths should have it back.
Or saying that the Romans should have it back.

Seriously, get over it. You lost, the local people kicked you out

They seem determined to finally take Vienna. I guess there's something to be said for having that sort perseverance.

(Mostly that it's probably time to give up on Vienna, and work within the realm of reality)

Ugh wtf this is just so disturbing
My family Is in Kuwait and I'm going to visit in a couple weeks. Obviously this 5 year plan of theirs isn't happening but still it's just rreally unsettling to have that as your next door neighbor :/
Fucking hell why can't this region just relax for ONCE!

And yet people still believe that the current high intensity conflict in Iraq is mostly ISIS, ignoring a more general Sunni uprising.

You know... as much shit that America gets for interfering with the Middle East... it seems like ISIS is begging for the US military to show up on its doorstep with a nuke in one arm, and a drone in the other.

Because that's what will happen the moment ISIS tries to move west of Syria...

pretty ironic that the result of
the us invasion of iraq is the creation of a jihadi state

Exactly what bin laden wanted .

And rolleyes at all the supporters of a new western attack on iraq , esp the ones talking of nuking them or "itll only take a few of these". Just like the gaf thread back in 2003 with mostly pro invasion posts. Dont you see the more you bomb them the more they will hate and will seek revenge on you?

But I don't honestly expect ISIS to actually move west of Syria.

All this is just propoganda. They don't have the forces to take Baghdad, much less all that other territory. I expect they'll try to solidify their holdings, and continue working towards taking the rest of Syria and, yes, Baghdad.

I was reading that the core forces of ISIS is only about 10,000 strong. It's a battle-hardened and strong core, but that's not enough men to do a whole lot.

Of course, they could also be totally delusional and start picking fights that will force the West to intervene seriously, but I suspect that they're smart enough to stay within current unstable regions.

SMH at these war hungry posts.
"Bomb them" has been the rallying cry to "do something" for so long its been normalized. SMH at Society.
SMH at our leading from behind diplomacy. The consequences it has wrought is terrifying, predictable, and likely not over.
Are you saying it would have been better to put unilateral action in front of an attempt to find a multilateral (diplomatic) solution?

If you are going to literally fight fire with fire it has to be a controlled burn otherwise you are going to figuratively enact a scorched Earth policy.

Don't worry, guys!

Blair applies to be Caliph
01-07-14
FORMER prime minister Tony Blair has submitted his CV to the newly-declared Islamic Caliphate in the Middle East.

Already hugely successful in his role as Middle East peace envoy, Blair believes he is perfectly suited to be the unquestioned supreme leader of a new Islamist era.

He said: “In my previous role I was instrumental in creating networks of Islamic extremists in Iraq and Afghanistan using an innovative mix of aerial bombings and ground invasions.

“Feel free to check my references – there are very few jihadis who wouldn’t name Tony Blair and Operation Iraqi Liberation as their direct inspiration.

“And I am already a figure both universally known and universally hated in the West, which is great positioning for ISIS.”

A spokesman for ISIS agreed that Blair’s credentials were impressive, but had doubts about his commitment and thought the tie he wore for the interview was carelessly chosen.

He continued: “He’s very strong on ignoring international law and manufacturing reasons for invasions, and his wife Cherie has worked hard to keep radical preachers in the UK.

“But if he’s such an outstanding candidate, why is there this seven-year gap in his employment record?

“And I’m definitely not keen on renaming Sharia Law as Blaria Law.”

Regarding the five year plan map: Its ambitious and scary to consider, but totally unrealistic. It functions less as an actual strategic plan, and more of a propaganda piece for ISIL.

As a fighting force, I still have my doubts they can completely defeat the Shia militants just within Iraq. But, if they do, they will have no chance against the Saudis or Israel. They also probably can't match up against Turkey or Jordan. And forget about pushing into Russia or Europe - no chance there.
