Mafia 3 |OT| "Family isn't who you're born with, it's who you die for"

So is that a spoiler from another ending or not? I can't click your tags because I've not finished yet.

Check out Oynox's write-up of the three endings. It describes them all perfectly. To answer your question though, yes my second spoiler is one of the endings.

I guess if you want to lay them out it's like this:

ENDING A

ENDING B-1
ENDING B-2

That is because (spoiler regarding end of game),
there are at least four different endings in the game.

The following:

1. You decide to leave New Bordeaux behind, Vito takes over the city, finishes the casino and lives in the upper penthouse of it. Lincoln is seen somewhere in California, travels around, finds a girl, however parts with her again. Father James gets occasional postcards from him. (I chose that, fits perfectly into the canon and game overall imho)

2. You decide to rule New Bordeax together with your underbosses. You continue business, wherever you get money from, drugs, sex, etc.. Father James is really sad about that obviously. That is the only option if you really want to continue with the free roam.

3. You decide to rule New Bordeaux alone, kill all of your underbosses and step out of the bayou house. As you enter your car, it blows up. Father James could not stand what you became in the course of events and decided he takes the responsibility that there cannot be another "Sal Marcano" and planted that bomb.

There has to be a fourth one I have not seen if you killed Vito. Maybe his assistant takes the city, I do not know.

I would be so pissed if I came to OT, still doing playthrough and saw these untagged posts about ending.

The fact that there's multiple endings? All the descriptions of the endings are spoiler-tagged. Honestly knowing that there ARE multiple endings is a great thing because you'll be more inclined to go through it multiple times.

I only have one complaint about this game though and it's related to the PS4's video capture. From the videos I recorded, the audio is turned off during cut-scenes but it works during gameplay. Does that happen to anyone else?

EDIT: Also, during gameplay the music from car radios doesn't play either. I'm assuming that's because of licensing issues with posting the videos online?

Quote for new page. I wanna know before I get too far in not knowing lol

No. It is even said in game that there is no difference whatsoever if I recall right. It is simply an "blood off" switch so to say, just a bit more elaborate than its counterpart in Assassin's Creed for example.

Does the story pick up? All I seem to be doing is capturing places and it's my 4th or 5th sector ffs.

The gameplay is repetitive, yeah. If you're really feeling the burn, just go to each district's racket starter mission so you have everything unlocked on the map to accumulate money to take down the bosses. Then just go from one activity to another knocking them out. Play stealthily, use cover, and stab some fools. The A.I. is dumb as shit so it's pretty easy to be stealthy. Get a silenced pistol as soon as you can because it'll make your time a lot easier. Head straight for the target people to kill in each activity if you can and don't be stingy with grenades.

It's worth trudging through the repetition for the story, I promise. Every time I took the two rackets in a district I got all excited to see what story beats and things would happen with the hit list bosses. It's worth it!

The wanted system is such a huge, huge improvement over GTA.

To be fair, it's a pretty low bar considering GTA wanted system is fucking abysmal but gets a pass simply because it's GTA. It's actually my second biggest gripe with GTA V next to the horrible movement and combat mechanics.

Hrm, I'm glad I decided to go through the endings in the way I did because if you choose a certain one, you can't go back and do the other ones without starting the game all over again (or if you have a cloud save).

You don't receive any new trophies or each ending though, just the one for finishing all the story missions. I'll keep this as spoiler-free as possible so no one screws themselves over at the end by picking that ending.

If you want to be able to go back and see all the other endings, when you choose between "Ending B1" and "Ending B2," you should channel your inner mafioso.

I think GTA games get away with a lot of bad design and B if not even C tier gaming writing because they are GTA games.

What is a better open world wanted system in your guys opinion?

Do you prefer things like Saints Row, Assassins Creed? Sleeping Dogs? GTAs wanted system seems pretty good to me in contrast to the competition.

The top bar for me is MGS5. I think in terms of moment-to-moment gameplay it's undoubtedly the best openworld sandbox experience due to the amazing AI and the meaningful interactions you can have with it. That's despite the fact that the overworld is relatively boring.

Do not click it then.

Sorry, I meant the post that everyone was quoting that people wondered was a spoiler or not. I obviously can't click your guys spoiler tags about multiple endings details to see if that 1 post was a spoiler or not.

The progression system is the Achille's heel of this game. Doing the same thing over and over again has become boring by this point. It's too bad.

I took over the distillery and the meat plant, and went after the bad guy. Now I'm starting to work towards getting the underbosses. It's taking FOREVER.

Will this game ever end?

MGSV and Assassin's Creed are kind of different things being mostly on-foot based games, so I never bring them up in these comparisons. I'd compare those to other stealth games and open world stealth action titles. They need a different, more complex and persistent kind of AI to make those games work.

- In terms of open world shooter/driving hybrid action games, it's hard to top Watch_Dogs IMO. The amount of tools you have + legit car stealth and top tier control mechanics + blackouts at night is hard to beat.

- GTA police are far too immediately aggressive and omnipotent. I no longer have fun getting away from them because your characters are glass cannons with terrible mechanics. It does have the most chaotic and potentially fun ceiling though, even though it because extremely difficult to lose your wanted level at max stars.

- Sleeping Dogs police are fun to deal with because it's arcadey and you can just ram them out of your life, but there's no real push and pull dynamic. They're more of a warning to keep you in check as an undercover cop.

- Saints Row has never really done anything special with their wanted level, and police became less and less important as the series went on. Fun enough in Saints Row 2, I guess, if only for the cars blowing apart when you use grenades/RPGs.

- Mafia 3 is solid. Police are kinda dumb once you get out of the vehicles and head into alleys and stuff, but the witness system and response times are cool details.

Very true. I really hope there is some massive overhauls for the next GTA although with the success of GTA online, that's clearly a ways off but even then im not holding my breath

Watch dogs gets the nod. Not even factoring all the tools at your disposal that makes it easy for you to get away from the cops once they actually show up, their wanted system is a bit like mafia 3 in that it takes a bit for the cops to actually respond and hone in on you. When you commit a crime (that someone sees and calls the cops about) there's a yellow circle that shows up on the map. The longer you stay in that circle the more it fills. If it gets to 100%, the cops show up and they're on to you. So with smart/decent play you always have the opportunity to get away before cops show up trying to put bullets in your behind.

Mafia 3 also rips watch dogs on the whole "witness is calling the cops" which again, is another means to help keep the cops off you before they actually show up.

You shoot a gun in the middle of the desert in GTA and the national guard rains down on you.

I want to assign districts evenly between the underbosses. Does it make any difference which districts I assign to each one? Or do they happen to have preferences..

Speaking of Watch Dogs, is there a video of someone playing it really well like the equivalent of a StealthgamerBR for Dishonored, that would sell me on the game? Or at least the sequel, which looks pretty promising on ghosting-and-hacking runs where not even encountering enemies physically is necessary.

No preferences but Emmanuel did comment that I made a poor choice giving Cassandra the trash district. I just wanted to keep all her territory sitting next to eachother but didn't think about how wrong it was to give black people the crappy district after I had just given Vito Downtown.

As far I was able to tell there was no any meaningful difference which boss got what district. It kinda makes sense that Vito runs harbors because his smuggling, but that doesn't really come into play.

In my experience they all bitch and moan when they don't their way. "Gimme dat! Oh, you didn't? Well you sux!"

So im a few hours into the game. Just did the amusement park hit. I had a message pop up about collecting a kickback from someone but didnt hit the map when it was posted and now I cant seem to find a location to collect the kickback.

Also Ive been just recruiting everyone instead of killing them for the quick cash. Is there any method to who to kill and who to recruit or does it really not matter?

Look for violet icons and one that says Cassandra is there, kickback is with her.

Killing or saving informants and racket bosses only matter for achievements in long run.

One district left to go I think before the end game but time for bed. Still enjoying the absolute hell out of it tbh, love them squishy headshots.

Thanks the money was just chilling on the coffee table right in front of her lol. Thought I would have to talk to someone.

Really wish there were special cars to find like in GTA and a garage I can keep them in.

So, on recruiting... I've wiretapped this guy's place. I have him in a knife hold. What do I do to recruit him instead of kill him?

I actually didn't get prompts on any of the KKK dudes despite having the whole region tapped, but it wouldn't have made a difference anyway.

Is there a certain way you have to recruit the boss for a racket? I just took over a racket in Frisco and one of the items on the list was "boss recruited" is there only certain ones that have bosses that you can recruit?

Just beat the game and did everything except get all the collectibles.

There's a lot i want to say but overall i really enjoyed the game. Maintaining the relationships with the underbosses reminded me a lot of the nemesis system from Shadow of Morder in that
you basically need to be intentionally fucking up and causing conflict to really see it for what its worth and getting the most out of it
which is a bit unfortunate.

The ending although not completely terrible, it didn't really move me. Ending spoilers:
It got way too preachy in regards to you making a choice. I didn't feel like Father James was in the game enough to really persuade me to "do the right thing" If anything, the only reason i gave it any real consideration at all was because he was a preacher, not because i felt he really influenced me throughout the story. I wish they didn't try to create 2 different choices and instead had a more focused ending. It also makes me made that you can't have seperate save files. I decided to stay and run New Bourdeux. I sure i can find it on youtube or whatever but i would have liked to see how things play out if you decide to leave. I also chose to rule together as oppose to rule alone so im interested to see how that works and how does having or not having their loyalty affect anything

I'm not above going through the game a second time but that'll be months from now. I'm also pissed i didn't get the trophy for flipping 16 underbosses. I have no idea which ones i didn't recruit as i felt like i recruited all that i could. So if i want to platinum the game, that's atleast 2 more playthroughs i need to do.

Now on to Tomb Raider!

When watching the PS4 streaming does it strip out the soundtrack or does everyone play with it off? Also, what was up with the hill / cliff I saw on the outskirts of town? I understand that it isn't really New Orleans, but it did break the immersion for me a bit. It didn't look like a levee or anything. Hoping to get it soon, though Amazon doesn't seem to have any for sale directly from them (with the tasty 20% Prime discount).

Does anyone have a mission list? Kind of curious to see how far into the game I am.

I'm about 10 hours in and my current story mission is to kill the b
utcher.

Fuck these glitches.
I did the sex missions for Cassandra specifically because I want the tactical shotgun as a favour, but every time I buy it I get given the standard shitty shotgun instead.
Mess of a game.

I've had few odd glitches I cleared a place out and Cassandra sends her crew in to take over then i quit and once I went back I had to retake the place even though her gang was still there so it was all of us first one dude

Sounds like you're still pretty early in but essentially it depends how many districts you have left
There are 9 of them

I don't mind the taking over districts stuff. I think that is actually a lot of fun once you got a rhythm going.

What almost kills it for me is having to drive to the mission givers. You have to go to them, watch a super boring cutscene, and then come back to them once you did enough damage to the racket. It boggles my mind that they left this part in the game. It feels super unnecessary to have them in the game. Just have the missions open up once you get your briefing from Donovan.

Also, the lack of fast travel kind of sucks.

Brace yourself if you intended to do the side missions.
Most of them involve going all the way out to the bayou, get some slow ass vechicle and bringing all the way back to town.
