People are dummies. 4 years ago we had this video from DF about Metro Exodus EE (first game requiring RT) and how it speeds up development:

Now imagine doing that to huge levels, how much time can be saved? And fully dynamic lighting will end up looking better anyway (it can also interact with dynamic objects).
Based on some replies in this thread no wonder Sony devs are stuck with PS4 graphics quality but in 4k/60 (without RT lighting, mesh shaders, virtual shadow maps, Nanite like tech etc.).
People got so used to bad lighting that they think good lighting is bad lol.
