This doesn't surprise me in the slightest. This is the way that Marvel does business. Low ball everyone and their 'my way or the highway' attitude burns bridges all over the place.

Just look at the fact they spent over $300m getting back the Spiderman film merch rights from Sony only to do next to nothing with them.

The Inhumans plotline seems to be going nowhere. Infinity ended a year ago, and the awakening of all those inhumans has meant jack shit for the larger Marvel U.

They dropped the ball with Infinity, the only big thing about it was Kamala.

Basically. Fantastic Four has always been one of Marvels weakest IP's.

No way.

Doctor Doom
Galactus
Silver Surfer
Black Panther
The Thing
Negative Zone
The Watcher
Annihilus
Inhumans
Black Bolt
Skrulls
Power Cosmic
Kree
Reed Richards
Human Torch
Ronan the Accuser
Supreme Intelligence
Super Skrull

So much stuff has come out of that series over the years which became important parts of Marvel lore. Lee & Kirby essentially built the Marvel Universe out of it. That IP is a legitimate treasure trove.

If I'm Fox, I make shitty straight to DVD after school special Fantastic Four films every 6 years from here on out.

The actual news here is that a solicitation for a trade paperback releasing in June actually confirms the end of the current Fantastic Four series. Before it was just rumoured.

But that as a thread title wouldn't have gotten as many views, nor spun as much sideways discussion out of it based on shit hypothesizing.

This is a RichieK special, actually.

Ethan Hawke is talks to star in Marvel's DOCTOR STRANGE
- No, he wasn't, bad conjecture sourced from unreliable site.

Marvel Cutting off X-Men merchandising to Spite Fox - No, they aren't. His first attempt at this thread, citing Rob Liefeld as the (untrustworthy) source.

Deadpool movie will be rated PG-13 - Still not known. Article based on a podcast hosted by two guys who say they overheard some shit at a hollywood party once.

DC Comics has a no joke policy with its films - repeat thread that leaves out the word "rumor" from the original thread, article based on a guy saying he heard a thing from a guy once, debunked easily by the fact WB's SUPERHERO MOVIES ALL HAVE JOKES IN THEM.

Chadwick Boseman to play Black Panther? - At least this one has a question mark on it, denoting that it's actually a rumor.

except for the fact that Spidey is still heavily promoted by Disney/Marvel in everything.

This feels so wrong. FF may not the best or more popular series right now, but it has been a Marvel staple since the very beginning.

Damn, I still read every comic since I'm a huge fan of the team. This makes me sad :( I know this is comics and all, but it's going to be a bit empty knowing a new book won't be coming out every month.

Yep, Spidey's in Disney Infinity and has the Ultimate Spider-Man cartoon on Disney XD.

And no sign of Wolverine, the X-Men or the FF in Disney Infinity, yet Spider-Man has his own adventure pack with his supporting characters in the cartoon, and his enemies being featured.

Technically Jean is back, but it's a time displaced Jean from the Lee/Kirby era, so it's kinda in a grey area. And apparently Quesada legitimately wanted to bring back Gwen for OMD/BND, but it thankfully never happened.

The 'theatrical Spiderman' hasn't been heavily promoted given that Disney now control all the merchandising associated with the Sony films.

Look at the merchandise (and what not) for ASM2 compared to something like GOTG .

Chris Claremont confirmed actually confirmed this recently on a Nerdist podcast.

Haven't been keeping up. Did Marvel really kill wolverine, as in he's never showing up or being revived in their main universe ever again? They're doing the same to the FF too? Woah.

X-men is one of the "more popular" (using that term loosely) Marvel IP's. Wolverine as well. Like hell are they going to cancel a series based on some petty spat with Fox.

(Besides, how many times has Wolverine "died" and suddenly "I got better?" That above comic page from Nextwave is pretty apt.)

No way.

Doctor Doom
Galactus
Silver Surfer
Black Panther

Treasure trove of story, yes. Treasure trove of sales, no. Hence, "weak IP."

FF is like Marvel's version of the Green Lantern (kinda), it has a small minority of fans. But most of the world simply doesn't care.

Hell, they should do this with lots of their properties. I've always thought seasons with some hiatus in between would be much better than pure ongoing books.

Disney Vault 'em? That vault did wonders for the appeal for older titles. The appearance of increased value was huge.

Brevoort is implying on his Tumblr that this will be immediately followed by another relaunch. I'm not convinced, but I guess we'll see.

Everything is the right pitch away from happening. It used to be Bucky and Gwen were the only characters in comics safe from resurrection. Now a resurrected Bucky was the titular character in one of the best Marvel movies. I don't even think Uncle Ben is safe from some kind of reality-bending reboot plot.
That's a different universe to that of the comics its separate. Has Bucky died before in 616?

I guess this is true to the Marvel universe... but not true for other publishers.

Marvel and DC. Books from other publishers rarely crack the Top 100 monthly comics. Image has been doing well in recent months, but the Walking Dead and Saga are the only books with sustained sales comparable to Marvel/DC books that aren't on the verge of cancellation. Plus those books are creator owned.

He means in the comics, no one expected Bucky to return until Brubaker brought him back in his run on Cap. The Winter Soldier, as a character, is still relatively new compared to most that have appeared in the films.

First Death of Wolverine, and now this. I can understand Marvel being pissed at Fox holding onto the FF rights, considering how perfect a fit it would have been in the MCU.
And also the fact that it doesn't seem like FF has actually been all that successful for Fox. It mainly feels like they're holding on to the series out of some sort of obsessive compulsive hoarding notion, while X-Men at least had the logic that it's really damn successful so naturally anyone with a solid grip of that wouldn't want to let it go.

God Marvel needs to make a Nextwave movie.

I dunno. Nextwave, while Warren Ellis good, was weak because of the "two shot" plot arcs. It felt mostly "filler" outside of the banter of the team. I don't think a movie would work unless they expanded it out a bit.

That said, a movie with:

Dr. Strange's line would be a movie worth watching.

Isn't that a bit different from that of Gwen though where shown her dying?
