Marvel to cancel Fantastic Four comics as a "F*** You" to Fox

A lot of that seems like speculation. We all knew that FF was dying a slow death so it's cancellation was no surprise. It's like how people were saying that Marvel was trying to push the Inhumans to replace the X-Men, when official statements plus their future roadmap indicates anything but that.

Edit: about Wolverine, he plus other X-Men lines sold quite well for a time being, but his solo/X-Men books don't garner much attention despite having fairly good writing. Hence why the character gets 'killed off', much like what other publishers do to get eyeballs on the pages.

Why does everyone like Dr Doom so much? He just kind of seems like an angry dude with a mask, sort of like an evil, shitty Batman.

Why is Rocket Raccoon in Marvel vs Capcom?! Why not Venom? Why not Gambit? Marvel doesn't know what it's doing!

To be fair: This was before the movie was out and the movie was *gasp* actually good. Who knew of the character before the movie that wasn't a comic book fan?

Apparently everybody loves the smell of napalm in the morning

yeah well tough fucking shit that's just how the world of business is

Uh...I'm pretty sure Marvel/Disney know how the world of business works.

It benefits them to focus on the properties they have absolute control over, merchandising wise. Hence why X-Men/F4 are getting pushed back. Sony was willing/had to play ball with Spidey, so Marvel left them alone on that. But they have control here.

X-Men wasn’t cancelled, for example as the Xbooks sell so well. But Fantastic Four? It may have been the first book of the Marvel Universe, but its sales have continued to drag, even after multiple relaunches with high profile creators.

so this is pretty much the main reason and they're using the fox stuff as a cover...

My personal opinion is that they should just scrap the FF books and instead give Doctor Doom his own book with various members of FF as supporting characters. He already appears in the upcoming plotlines (New Avengers, AXIS) so it seems like a better fit for the company.

That, and everyone loves Doom.

You can see this new FF movie is a trainwreck from space.

Maybe cancelling this is like a blood mark on the door so the angel of death passes by after that shitstorm?

How does this harm Fox ? They can still make those movies.
They won't have any other means of promotion (co-marketing) other than themselves.

No comic, no cartoon, nothing in the merchandising area... Fox will have to do everything themselves. That's a pretty big task. Fox doesn't need it for the X-Men, but the Fantastic Four? Yeah, that's going to be harsh.

Less awareness of the properties, & thus less money for Fox. The are actually kids today who don't know who the Fantastic Four are.

Will the drop in awareness really be significant though ? I have never read a comic book in my life and I have still seen every Marvel film to date, along with Fox's films. I don't need the source material to make me aware of a film; just a good trailer.

Nop. You are right.

Yeah...but how much promotion Marvel really could be providing realistically? Fox will get all promotion it needs by integrating the IP into shared universe with X-Men. And those kids you mention, they will grow up thinking FF were born in Fox movies.

I'm pretty sure they still need to have a big fat Marvel logo starting the film...

Fantastic Four was one property I was actually thinking Disney could get back, but now I can see it happening just out of more spite.

Mcu fans hate boner for fox is always amusing, I actually think this new f4 has a chance at being a decent movie

I really like who they cast as doom and johnny for example, and chronicle was a pretty neat movie

We'll see

If I'm Fox, I make shitty straight to DVD after school special Fantastic Four films every 6 years from here on out.

I don't know why they would bother doing that, unless they like wasting money. I also think there's a clause that if it's really shitty they can get it back for doing harm to the franchise.

I actually wonder if Fox's plan is to give FF one last shot, to see if they can make it as big of a deal as X-Men (or close enough), and if it STILL flounders sell the rights back to Disney. Guess that depends on whether Fox really is nuts enough to just keep trying every 7 years or if they'll eventually go "this is just throwing money out for the sake of throwing it out."

As long as the movie doesn't suck like the first two, I wouldn't care who holds the movie rights.

Fox is writing the FF in their Marvel Universe together with the X-Men right?

Fox doesn't have the best track record when it comes to comic films that don't have Bryan Singer directing or producing.

Oh sure I agree.

But they do want to be succesful with these properties; I'm still surprised they're rebooting the FF-series.

maybe he looks like that because in the movie latveria is actually his small town in the sewers that he built. Could make for some excellent drama and social commentary on society's treatment of the homeless

I'd love to see the meltdowns if that happens lmao

It's annoying to see Marvel struggle to get the right back but if the comic isn't selling well and then I can't blame Marvel cancelling it.

I wouldn't hold high hopes.

Pffffwhahahahahahaahahah! Oh god my side. What the hell is that? Wahahahaah! *falls off chair*

I can see all that but I am not sure why I should be mocking a movie based of a screen in production.

I dunno, cap looked like a damn clown in the avengers shots and ppl loved that movie

Quicksilver looked pretty cornball too and ended up great in xmen

Ppl jump the gun all the time (myself included). I think kebbel's gonna be great but who knows how the script turns out

Initially the FF and X Men were going to be in the same universe but now the plan right now is that they are separate.

Yeah, I've gotta reserve judgment until I see it completed in a theater. I was really blown away by Chronicle, and this kind of behind the scenes stuff doesn't mean shit after 8 months of multi-million dollar effects work.

Still, I hope they don't turn Doom into an total assclown like those first two movies.
