Your journal also has a compass pointing to your next objective. They drive this home with screen prompts in the beginning of the game.

Stallion Free said:The necessity of a compass just proves that this is poor level design for a linear game. There were a couple times where I wondered where I was suppose to go because compasses don't help that much when you are in an apartment building that is half destroyed and you have to find the exit. Half-Life 2 has no such guidance system and I never got lost once. Same for lots of other linear shooters.
Amazon (Germany?) exclusive. No additional game, but an automatic shotgun. Cheap as hell as well, just 55 for such awesome stuff.panda21 said:holy crap thats awesome! what special edition is this?!
i was about to post that the UK one was the first worthwhile special edition in a while (free red faction gorilla, art cards), and it costs no more than the regular. except for the fact that game felt the need to actually print GAME EXCLUSIVE in a big purple circle on the nice dvd case card sleeve thing.

After dieing about 100 times at the start of Chapter 4 the hint thingy that showed up when it was loading was something like "finding the game to easy? You can change difficulty anytime" no game, no I'm not finding you too easy... then I sucked so bad the game crashed.

Obviously I know this, but a linear game does not need an arrow pointing you in the right direction. The levels should be designed in such a way that you have a clear path, always going forward. I hate to say it because I don't like the game at all, but Modern Warfare had much better leveldesign, you always knew where to go (I'm not sure if that game had an arrow or not tbh). Metro makes it unnecessarily confusing sometimes and it detroys any flow the game has going for it. I almost can't believe I'm criticizing a linear game for being unclear in its direction (as a rule I'm all for open-ended gameplay and games not holding your hand), but I think it's a pretty big flaw , though I get the feeling Im gonna be alone in this opinion. The Interrobanger said:There's an arrow on your watch that literally points you in the right direction.

Mind you, I'm still very much in the beginning stages of the game, so I should probably shut up and play the game some more before commenting...

Anyway, people should check it out.

Really? I think it stands out somehow. This game is amazing so far, the love to detail is jaw-dropping.OuterWorldVoice said:I know, but I think it hurts it in terms of recognizability.

Stealth Suit? Heavy Automatic Shotgun? Shit what did I miss here? I'm already at the library!Agent White said:I'm just starting Chp. 5 now and loving this game.
Although I really feel like staring back from the Armory after helping my brother get the Stealth Suit and the Heavy Automatic Shotgun(missed out on both of these). I was wondering why it was so difficult for me to be stealthy and after watching him crouch next to an enemy for a while then knife to the back I'm so jealous.
Either way I'll be playing this again. I haven't felt this tense since I first popped in Demons Souls.

Warm Machine said:I agree with the comment a few pages back about the audio being a mess. The positional effects are not working wel and lots of audio is stomped by other events in the scripting. Right at the beginning of the game in the prologue the audio is bugged with double talk coming out of your partner.

I just got the Heavy Automatic Shotgun (from the Gamestop code)...well..I think..it was in the bed just lying there..right??
Are the suits before that..or after that?
Yeah, I'm not really liking the gun mechanics either but you can usually stealth your way to throw a knife at their back or headshot them stealthy.leng jai said:Really tempted to pick this up but the reportedly average gunplay/audio is really putting me off.

Holy shit, the fire fights in this game are brutal. I'm playing the PC version on hardcore and it's not only intense but the AI have done so many little things that have surprised me.
Also, I was not expecting destructibility with the environments. I threw a grenade towards a couple guys and huge chunks of the wall, their wooden stall, and other objects were blown to smithereens. Debris everywhere. Of course, with PhysX on, and with all the volumetric smoke effects of the grenade, my framerate instantly tanked to the mid 20's.
Still, amazingly robust engine. I'd love to see a Stalker made with this tech.
