There's an arrow on your watch that literally points you in the right direction.

Your journal also has a compass pointing to your next objective. They drive this home with screen prompts in the beginning of the game.

holy crap thats awesome! what special edition is this?!

i was about to post that the UK one was the first worthwhile special edition in a while (free red faction gorilla, art cards), and it costs no more than the regular. except for the fact that game felt the need to actually print GAME EXCLUSIVE in a big purple circle on the nice dvd case card sleeve thing.

The necessity of a compass just proves that this is poor level design for a linear game. There were a couple times where I wondered where I was suppose to go because compasses don't help that much when you are in an apartment building that is half destroyed and you have to find the exit. Half-Life 2 has no such guidance system and I never got lost once. Same for lots of other linear shooters.

Explore a little dude. Its not that hard to find your way. A tad confusing, sure... but its not THAT bad.

Amazon (Germany?) exclusive. No additional game, but an automatic shotgun. Cheap as hell as well, just 55€ for such awesome stuff.

The build quality of the watch is pretty good and the keychain is one heavy piece.

Had to drop the res to nearly 720P on my PC to stay above 30fps but now the game is very playable and im using DX10 / Very High mode.

Just started Chapter 4, man what a great game. After dieing about 100 times at the start of Chapter 4 the hint thingy that showed up when it was loading was something like "finding the game to easy? You can change difficulty anytime" no game, no I'm not finding you too easy... then I sucked so bad the game crashed.

What was the part you kept dying?

You must be playing it on harder difficulty, because I managed it through. I might be playing either on Easy or Normal.

Just picked this up last night (360).

Great start to the game. I just spent around 40 minutes playing and retrying the first stealth encounter just because I wanted to do it just right.
Even though I am a real bastard about perfectly stealthing game sections, I do like the fact that you can stuff up, get discovered, and fight your way out of it.

Obviously I know this, but a linear game does not need an arrow pointing you in the right direction. The levels should be designed in such a way that you have a clear path, always going forward. I hate to say it because I don't like the game at all, but Modern Warfare had much better leveldesign, you always knew where to go (I'm not sure if that game had an arrow or not tbh). Metro makes it unnecessarily confusing sometimes and it detroys any flow the game has going for it. I almost can't believe I'm criticizing a linear game for being unclear in its direction (as a rule I'm all for open-ended gameplay and games not holding your hand), but I think it's a pretty big flaw , though I get the feeling Im gonna be alone in this opinion.

Mind you, I'm still very much in the beginning stages of the game, so I should probably shut up and play the game some more before commenting...

Where could you have possibly gotten lost in the early parts of the game?

Really like this so far, but I think the name they chose for it really hurts it in terms of atmosphere, recognizability and charisma. Am I crazy?

Anyway, people should check it out.

They didn't really pick the title, it's based on a book by that name.

For those of you wondering what it looks like...

Yep. That Game sticker? PRINTED on the sleeve. They could've just given me a stamp so I could stick 'I shop at Game' on my forehead. Such a shame seeing as it is a cool cover. I'm not sure if it's 'embossed' however :lol

That said, it's how it plays, not how the cover looks. Nevertheless, the whole thing just feels rushed.

I'm running the game with an XFX 4890 XT video card, 8gigs of RAM, Windows 7 64 bit and an E8400 3.0 CPU. This game runs very smooth for me (50-30 FPS, low 20-15 on some surface missions/areas) on the following settings:

Compared to Crysis this is looking better indoors, worse outdoors, much more linear, has abetter atmosphere, better monsters but worse human enemies, am I getting this right?

So a game combining the best parts of them would be the fps to end all fps :D

I ordered yesterday (from the UK), almost on the spot after seeing the pc screenshot thread :lol So it´ll take a while before I can play :/

I'm at chapter 5. Haven't bought a single thing from stores(including ammo).Waiting for something special to come up :p. Game is pretty good and i am enjoying it so far but i don't see anything special with this game. There are some neat things like gasmask and even though i suck at it stealth is pretty fun. I already knew it was a linear game but i was expecting some rpgish elements since people compared this game to Stalker.

Yeah, that's why I asked instead of boldly asserting. Might just be the way I "hear"it. But as I said, game itself is remarkable from effectively coming out of nowhere. Really interesting.

I know what you mean. The title isn't even remotely intriguing and feels generic.

I'm just starting Chp. 5 now and loving this game.

Although I really feel like starting back from the Armory after helping my brother get the Stealth Suit and the Heavy Automatic Shotgun(missed out on both of these). I was wondering why it was so difficult for me to be stealthy and after watching him crouch next to an enemy for a while then knife to the back I'm so jealous.

Either way I'll be playing this again. I haven't felt this tense since I first popped in Demons Souls.

Loving this just got to the second station/area. Just after the minecart,Just wandering around soaking up the atmosphere it's amazing listening to the lovely jazz music in the bar the people milling about and the creepy little kids. :lol

This really is so far like a more tighter, focused STALKER,and the graphics are lovely.

Stealth Suit? Heavy Automatic Shotgun? Shit what did I miss here? I'm already at the library!

The Shotgun was a download code from Gamestop, but yeah man I totally missed the Suits too which is why I feel like just going back

So far this is winner of best technical achievement in graphics for the year. The 360 version is shockingly good looking. I don't think there is a FPS on console that looks as good as this. The textures are very high res and the light and shader work is pretty stunning.

The combat versus the monsters is really underwelming though. They don't have very good hit reactions and their animation as well as AI is poor. Gunfights versus people are far more interesting as they take cover and act relatively intelligently.

I agree with the comment a few pages back about the audio being a mess. The positional effects are not working wel and lots of audio is stomped by other events in the scripting. Right at the beginning of the game in the prologue the audio is bugged with double talk coming out of your partner.

Right now, the game is certainly a looker, has pretty good gunplay vs. human AI, and has a involving story. Too bad about the audio effects and the enemy monster encounters.

Still, the game is a must see.

It's not actually trolling if you don't admit it
At chapter 3 (I think) where Bourbon gets captured and I'm sneaking through a bandit camp.

Holy shit, the fire fights in this game are brutal. I'm playing the PC version on hardcore and it's not only intense but the AI have done so many little things that have surprised me.

Also, I was not expecting destructibility with the environments. I threw a grenade towards a couple guys and huge chunks of the wall, their wooden stall, and other objects were blown to smithereens. Debris everywhere. Of course, with PhysX on, and with all the volumetric smoke effects of the grenade, my framerate instantly tanked to the mid 20's. :p

Still, amazingly robust engine. I'd love to see a Stalker made with this tech. :)

That's not a bug. He's talking over the radio while standing next to you. Of course you'd hear him twice.

After.

Both the heavy suit and the stealth suit are sold in the Red's area, and I saw a guy selling the heavy suit in Prios as well.

Yeah, I'm not really liking the gun mechanics either but you can usually stealth your way to throw a knife at their back or headshot them stealthy.

are there any pictures that show the difference between high and very high settings?

with the new beta nvidia drivers i can run the game mostly playable on very high but high runs quite a bit better but i cant tell what im missing.

Yea I just finished this area and had a tough time with the AI at times, My only gripe is once they're aware of your presence they can always see you even if you're standing a mile away in complete darkness.

Scariest part of the game so far as been fighting those little rat mutants. I had the biggest jump scare ever in a game from a totally unexpected blind side by one of those ringers.

During that child 'escort' mission, the first 5 minutes I kept spinning around trying to find the child and then my mouse went all screwy, so I thought I had a couple of bugs. Took me some minutes before I put two and two together and realised that I was piggy-backing him.

Favourite weapon is the arrow shooter. Least favourite so far is the ball-bearing gun. Multiple rounds to take down a rat mutant? Shitty!

Beat the game last night. Incredible experience. There are some nitpicks, but nothing too worthy of note for me. Any word on when we might expect that DLC?

I am close to the end and here are my 2 cents (PC version):

Gameplay: 8 out of 10. Linear shooter but a very good one - fighting humans is more fun than the monsters. I had some long, epic and tense shootouts with the human opponents. I like stealth killing when possible. Would have liked more exploration and more weapon variety.

Graphics: 10 out of 10. Sure, I could nitpick and find flaws but really, this is as good as PC graphics gets at the moment. Looks good on a medium range computer and can push the fastest rigs to their limit with maximum settings. Lighting and textures are phenomenal as are the various effects.

Overall: 9 out of 10

Closing remarks: probably the best linear shooter on the market right now. The setting is great and I cant help but hope that if the game is succesful, 4A Games will consider making a more open shooter in the Metro 2033 setting with more RPG elements. Yes, more like STALKER: Call of Pripyat.

Metro 2033 does sound like a crappy sci-fi movie, yes. Adding 20XX-something always makes movies (and games) sound a bit cheesy. "Metro" alone would probably have been better.

Anyway, I'm enjoying the atmosphere in this game but the action is a bit.. Bad. Fighting a ton of mutants at once can only be described as total fucking chaos. You're constantly being attacked from all directions and there's not much tactics aside from spinning around and shooting like crazy, hoping they'll go down.

The only audio problems are in the little camps where everyone talks over each other, there`s no distance level for the chatter they do but that`s it..the actual gun sounds are awesome but be warned, this game is brutally hard.I finally gave up on trying to find a stealthy way out of chapter 4,killed a bunch of guys and at one point, brought the game down to easy and just ran out of there, while I was getting blasted by everyone, used some med kits and barely made it hehe...

Holy hell this game is beautiful. It completely crushed my 5850 when I tried to max it out at 1650x1080. Like 13-15 fps during the initial fire fight. :lol

I guessed that but it made the dialogue in that part really hard to hear. I running it with a 5.1 surround system too, I wonder if the regular stereo mix makes it better.
