That's fair. But, I don't want it at least. I think it looks dumb and tacked on. It feels like Nintendo is trying to catch up with all this open world traversal that was already tired 10 years ago.There are many Metroid fans that wouldn't mind a game that let's you explore more than just one main location or just one single all connected map.
There's nothing wrong with finding ways to expand the Metroid Universe/Lore through actual gameplay, (i.e. moving to several locations, of varying sizes, to explore) if it's done well.
