Metroid Prime 4: Beyond launches on December 4, 2025

There are many Metroid fans that wouldn't mind a game that let's you explore more than just one main location or just one single all connected map.

There's nothing wrong with finding ways to expand the Metroid Universe/Lore through actual gameplay, (i.e. moving to several locations, of varying sizes, to explore) if it's done well.
That's fair. But, I don't want it at least. I think it looks dumb and tacked on. It feels like Nintendo is trying to catch up with all this open world traversal that was already tired 10 years ago.

Did not expect the bike, at first I almost thought I was looking at a sequel to Metroid Dread or something.

Great to finally have a date. Hoping it turns out to be as good as prior entires.

Very curios to see how these bike sections will run on the regular Switch.

Wasn't a good trailer and in the direct they treated it like just some other random Switch game. About as boring a release date reveal as I've seen for a major first party game.

Yeah, that was strange to me. The only thing I can think of is maybe Retro are behind the scenes grinding to get the game finished.

So fucking in. The bike certainly is a move, but I welcome it absolutely. I'm sure you just primarily use it to get from place to place and it's not going to be some sort of Mad Max situation (though if you can upgrade your bike that would be awesome)

Super hype already starting. Time to finally finish the Prime Remaster beforehand. Really dug the trailer music too.

I hope every second she is on the bike she verbally complains with thing like "I used to be able to run faster than this" and "Why do I have to shoot them? They used to die to my touch"

So from fully restarting development from scratch and having Retro make the game, including pre-production, Metroid Prime 4 was in development from January 2019 until November 2025. Wow. That is a long time!

That's 7 full calendar years. Dang!
lol that's an understatement. GAme was teased at roughly the same time in the Switch 1 lifecycle as the Switch 2 sits today.

I'd say at least wait to give it a chance. A lot of people doubted the 1st person perspective of Prime 1 to actually work out...and look how that worked out. I don't think Nintendo would have allowed it honestly if it was a huge detraction...but we'll see.

Sorry guys that's on me, I think. I posted these in 2018 on another place in a discussion about the future of Metroid.

For 3d, I would really like to have a fast vehicle (perhaps a sci-fi motorcycle or hovercraft) to explore vast alien landscapes. Doing wild stunts while traversing bizarre, atmospheric terrain.

and then again(different thread)

Please let it be an open world adventure. A deserted planet. Derelict megastructures covered in sand and snow. Samus on an Akira-style motorcycle.
I just had to track the posts down and gloat, you understand. Although I would have gone with a different terrain, had they asked me to clarify. Those were made before they rebooted development too. I better be in the credits Nintendo.

It looks like they don't have any real love for Metroid Prime. Unlike Metroid Dread, which had its own segment.

That semi-open area looks dreadful, that's not want I want from a Metroid.

Retro Studios hasn't disappointed me once so I'm still hopeful it's gonna be a banger.

Failing to see the point of the bike here. The sand section they showed with the bike looked completely devoid of anything remotely interesting to look at or explore. Like you got this semi open world but there's nothing to do in it meaning it's pointless.

Right. Yeah the E3 2017 teaser was back when it was secretly in development at Bamco Singapore from ~early 2017 to end of 2018, presumably. Reggie artfully dodged at E3 2018 why it wasn't shown or any footage released or an update given. Then when they were doing their internal review of their pipeline end of 2018, they determined it was so bad it was worth the effort to cancel the whole thing and have another studio start over again from scratch. It has been a loooooong road. It's so cool that we're finally here.

Might just (be) a loading mechanism with some gamification.

I love Metroid and I'm excited for Prime 4 but what is it with these shitty trailers? They are so badly cut together, there's no momentum or build up.
Is this the fault of that company they outsourced to last year to help edit/ put together trailers, or did they bring this back in-house? Regardless, this game needs a Direct. I'm like 99.99% it'll have one. Likely October.

Yeah would think it would be a more Alien-esque kind of trailer like Metroid Dread was.

This trailer just seemed to be look at this cool bike in a sci-fi Universe with advanced tech like Exo-Suits and Federation mechs.

I find it very lame.

This was a bad trailer, with weird quiet music, nothing epic.

This game either needs a launch trailer that's epic or a Direct, or Nintendo knows it sucks and we're all gonna suck it.

If there was too much dense terrain, people would complain that there was a bike because there wouldn't be enough wide open spaces to ride it in. Either way, you can't win. 🤷‍♂️

well, it launches in December, so a launch trailer would be like the week of Thanksgiving-ish. No doubt the game will have a title Direct at some point this fall.

The way this was shown off in the trailer I'm starting to think Nintendo doesn't have much hope for this game , this wasn't high on my list to start with but what was shown made it look like average switch 1 game

yeah I hate that in Battlefield when the map is too cluttered and the vehicles become way less fun to use. anyway the cycle was new at least and could be interesting and that's what I'm looking for... new stuff in addition to the usual.

Why have they shown so little of it? I guess a direct in a month or two for it?

Edit: NM I guess I forgot they did treehouse of this before

That motorbike in that empty, open world's got some big Wind Waker energy. I want to believe but my gut reaction is that this is a miss. I'm an old head though who likes his Metroid games taking place in one, contained map - where you can sequence break - so I'm biased.

If this bike is only some minor traversal mechanism between the "dungeons", kind of like the ship in Prime 3, whatever, but why hell focus a trailer on it then? I'm trying so hard to keep the faith but all that's keeping me at all is the name by now. Every trailer wacker than the last.
