Metroid Prime 4: Beyond launches on December 4, 2025

Very curios to see how these bike sections will run on the regular Switch.
1. You get on the bike.

2. It tells you which section you want to go to in the menu.

3. You accept... The engine sound starts.

4. The screen goes dark... The loading screen appears.

5. Done, you're now in the world you chose.

It's finally a Metroid that isn't afraid to step out of the box of comfort for once and you all STILL cry about it.

There's no winning with some of you at all. Just bitch, bitch, bitch, fun doesn't exist.

People saying that this look like a PS3 game needs their eyes checked ASAP

Sorry guys that's on me, I think. I posted these in 2018 on another place (cough) in a discussion about the future of Metroid.

and then again(different thread)

I just had to track the posts down and gloat, you understand. Although I would have gone with a different terrain, had they asked me to clarify. Those were made before they rebooted development too. I better be in the credits Nintendo.
You were ahead of our time.

Its because switch 1 bla bla bla.

Gtav and mgsv are on ps360.

Retro studio membesr left long time ago, the new thing in the Game ia a motorbike. Cool bro.

not in and of itself. the original MP ran at 60 fps.
But it wasn't semi open world with riding around a vast area on a fast moving vehicle….? The comparison is odd given the context. BotW chugged at 30 fps and didn't look better than this.

The expectations for it for some just seem unrealistic to me. Like, we know what to expect of Switch 1 games at this point. It's been 8 years 🤷‍♂️

I didn't like that game so I conveniently left it out.

wait. so you didn't like the most Metroid game that Metroided since the SNES, but want more Metroid-like Metroid games?

that doesn't quite compute. Maybe you don't actually want a Metroidy Metroid and just haven't found the right game yet that goes out of the Metroid box, but in a way you approve of?

Metroid Prime has very small environments too due to the memory limitations of the Gamecube. What little we've seen of Prime 4 dwarfs anything in the original which was essentially a series of small rooms connected together with hidden loading screens (the doors).

It had shit music, zero atmosphere, boring backgrounds and an emphasis on combat I wasn't too into despite it being very competent at it. I'm not saying it's a bad game but I didn't care for it and thought it was disappointing. I just made a RTTP Super Metroid thread some months back, you can investigate for further reading material.

Doesn't like un-Metroidy Metroid games, wants Metroidy Metroid game. Gets done, but doesn't like it. An impossible-to-please gaming audience, in a nutshell. 🤷‍♂️

yeah but MP also wasn't on 2025 hardware either. ;)

60 fps just nothing special in and of itself so can't say it's impressive just based on that.

That's...precisely my point.

I agree that the art design/atmosphere was lacking. but game design wise it was among the best in the series imo.

but I think we'll never get a game with a similar atmosphere as Super Metroid again tbh. it was even unique in its own franchise. only Prime 1 had a similar one, mainly because they clearly wanted to have this familiarity to counteract the initial shock that a lot of people got of it being 3D and in first person

Note that prior to this trailer, it was all just bitching about how it looks like just another Metroid Prime game and not doing anything different. We live in complaining / hot take culture.

it's...not 2025 hardware. it's 2017 (actually 2015) hardware, and Switch 1 games are a known quantity at this point 🤷‍♂️. It's been 8 years, we know what they look like. Switch 2 upgrades simply up-res the game, increase FPS, maybe add higher-res textures in some cases. But the game logic and the game has to run on Switch 1 to begin with, thus it was designed with that in mind. I'd also point out MP4 has been in development since 2019 and would've only recently been tuned for Switch 2 very, very late in development.

The fact that Metroid Prime 4 is a Switch 1 game and can run at 60 fps with that fidelity actually is impressive, given how weak the tech is. Given the semi open world and whatnot. BotW has an even bigger world and chugs just to barely hit 30 fps most of the time.

I think if they would have given games like these the AAA big budget console treatment, people wouldn't be as scared or upset about Metroid being "too different":

Especially Federation Force, as it was a potential moment for the I.P. to expand into something more. It could have been Metroid's version of Republic Commando.

ok my bad. 2017 hardware vs 2000 hardware. same point.

BotW is 30...take away a lot of detail and you get 60.

No More Heroes was on Wii and had an open world more or less. Ran like like sht. But ...

This. There shouldn't be a bike, there should be a bike but its too empty, blah blah blah. Heaven forbid they do anything new. You literally cannot win, I fully agree.

Armchair quarterbacking it it's most annoying, for sure. Let's all just be happy we have a brand new, likely quite lengthy full-on AAA Metroid Prime game in 2025. Like, man people are so spoiled/ jaded there's just nothing you can do.

Wind Waker. Big open world to cruise thru. Wasn't 60. But 2000 era hardware.

60 just not impressive in and of itself. Now when we get the game maybe the 60 combined with the detail will end up impressive? Doubt it. I mean it's pretty easy for me to imagine a big open barren plain and 60 fps when botw was 30.

I knew someone would bring those up lol There's a reason they've been left in the ether and forgotten about. Surprised Metroid Pinball wasn't posted either.

Ummm... completely different engines/ technology/ the ocean was created during development as a way to load the game between areas...? I don't follow your point anymore, this is getting out into the weeds at this point.

IT's not impressive to do 60. Hope you can follow that. ;)

They were created as handheld games and they were received as handheld games 🤷‍♂️

Typical, Nintendo fans can't deal with any criticism of their beloved Ninty franchises. Whatever uninspired trash they put out is pure gold.

Remind us again, how long it took for this game to come out? Better be a fucking masterpiece considering the length of time it took.

I'm not saying "these games were great and are underrated".

I'm saying they were good ideas that should have been treated better.

The reason we have reached this moment today with Metroid and this thread (that you yourself are pointing out) is because Nintendo would treat most of these Metroid spinoff titles as unreliably unimportant. Unreliable in quality, and unimportant in placement/story.

Doing that meant that the only games considered as the opposite, reliably important, would be the mainline titles, which are the 2D games and AAA Prime series.

But we got Prime 3, Federation Force and Other M. Every damn Metroid game in the last 15+ years has stepped out of the box and it sucked. I WANT actual Metroid-ing lol. Stay in the fucking box bitch

I liked Prime 3 a lot aside from the human contact and dialogue. And Other M is just a different animal since it was Team Ninja's baby.

And I didn't think Other M was bad either. Just a different take.

This looks like the Prime we're all familiar with, except seemingly way more open ended. I'm all about that. Speeding along and all of a sudden you see some derelict crashed ship in the distance. Blast ride over to it while wiping out some baddies for extra missles, and then approach and enter what turns out to be a beautiful pie slice of a tight OG Prime experience equivalent to a mini dungeon or something. How can you not get erect thinking about that?

They've shown nothing about this game to gain any hype nor deserve any hype tbh. 0 story at all with 0 voice acting/dialog, 0 environmental storytelling with a world that dosen't look connected at all, and 0 cool things to do in the semi open world they've shown off etc etc. Nothing about this game looks amazing i'm sorry it's true.
