Metroid Prime 4: Beyond launches on December 4, 2025

If this bike is only some minor traversal mechanism between the "dungeons", kind of like the ship in Prime 3, whatever, but why hell focus a trailer on it then? I'm trying so hard to keep the faith but all that's keeping me at all is the name by now. Every trailer wacker than the last.
well we know it's a traditional Metroid Prime game, we've already seen two trailers showing that on-foot exploration/ scanning/ shooting/ morph ball, that usual Metroid Prime stuff. They're doing what they always do and drip-feed new mechanics in the build-up to release and using occasions to highlight them. 🤷‍♂️

Damn, buy Prime Remastered first and play Super Metroid through virtual console!
Yeah, I have semi-played those just have never seriously played through a large chunk of any Metroid game. I've dabbled but it's never got it's hooks in me. Maybe this could be the one! I do particularly like Fusion but never made it past 3-5 hours-ish.

The bike parts make me want a game of the Painkiller album cover:

Looks like a mobile game.

I see literally nothing inspiring about that trailer.

Poor Visuals, empty open world, uninspired enemy design, paperweight looking gunplay.

Where's the brilliance?

Open world is probably like Gears 5, to connect different biomes/mission areas.

This game excels in level design and map layout. Not visible in trailers.

Well it's a Switch 1 game, hardware based on a 2015 mobile chipset. It's also a Switch 1 game running at 60 fps, unlike BotW which barely ran at 30 fps most of the time, which was an enormous open world. So I'm not sure why the expectations are so unrealistic, beyond what they could reasonably do with an upgrade to take advantage of the S2 capabilities.

Yeah, that was strange to me. The only thing I can think of is maybe Retro are behind the scenes grinding to get the game finished.

We've had rumors that this was the case, and I think that seeing it slotted into the early December "as close to Christmas as economically feasible" Smash Bros slot pretty much confirms it.

That said, I think the trailer looked great. Motorcycle looks wild, and it's cool that we're getting a wide variety of different biomes. Highlight of an otherwise pretty mediocre Direct.

Yep, this. It's prolly coming in hot. It's that Xenoblade 2, Smash window where they grind til the last possible minute to make the deadline. Which is fine, all are great games. And ultimately no one cares as long as the game turns out well.

What the hell are they doing? Why there's huge open spaces full of nothing with terrible geometry, almost non-existant lvl of details and a bike? It doesn't make any sense in Metroid Prime game. It feels like these bike sections were cut lvls and rejected ideas which somehow ended up in the game anyway just to not throw them away. Ugh, man, I'm just not feelin' it.

Probably the biggest takeaway to give the game a semi-linear design(which is good) and presents a strong illusion of being able to explore the whole planet. Let's just hope the world map design isn't a identical copy of BotW. Would be funny if they did that again.

That bike part with the empty open-world didn't exactly fill me with excitement. I will give the benefit of doubt to Retro Studios because they are an awesome studio.

RetroStudio wizardry in action, the details in this game are going to be gorgeous.
The environmental art direction is predictably top tier, there was never any doubt Retro Studios are the best level designers in the industry with Fromsoftware.

Once I'm done with Silksong I'll get another similarly moody game to enjoy.

People doubting in Retro Studios here is something else 🤣.

Good lord, here we go again. Like going in a time machine back to January 2017 where it's like suddenly no one recalls what Switch 1 games look like, as though we don't all already know.
It really is circular motion kind of reasoning because if you want to make an actual, good argument, you atleast need to be capable of thought.

Hence, you get these flatass replies like ''looks like a mobile game'', ''I have seen better PS3 games'', ''I didn't know Wii emulators had this amount of upscaling'', ''I am missing bespoke features, Switch 2 is fail'' and all that jazz.

All done by folks whose sole daycare activity is logging in on GAF and telling other people who log in on GAF that the game they like and they want to talk about on GAF looks like a game from a prior platform which they want to talk about on GAF.

Don't give any attention to the usual asshurt console warriors, the news of Sony putting their "games" on Nintendo platforms on top of Switch 2 getting modern entries of series that were traditionally associated to Playstation like Resident Evil and Final Fantasy mindbroke some people, this is just their coping mechanism.

You know... I thought it might have been bullshit but it ended up being real afterall.

Way ahead of you buddy.

Oh Yeah Reaction GIF

I'm not opposed to open world traversal but a motorcycle is kind of lame. Samus has a space ship, why would she ever use a motorcycle. I'm sure it will be fun within the context of the game.

To be clear, I'm not an "insider" or whatever. I just saw a vid from one the Youtubers in my country, the guy is friends with someone who worked at Retro and he saw the game in advance.
