I've had bigger movements after a night of hard drinking. It's a bunch of self important bullshit you guys are circle jerking about. This game is gonna sell gangbusters and you guys are gonna handwave it like "well it's because ...... something something".
I don't think there are enough of you to stop the next Naughty Dog game from being a game of the gen. The only way this flops is if ND fails to execute on the gameplay since it's a new type of game for them.

Remember what TLOU2 did to Neil and the studio? Depression and the like, actors with death threats etc. It's sad, but it is what it is... this studio will be closed by Sony in the next few years IMO, it's hard to correct mistakes in this scenario when you make a product for ideology. I still remember TLOU1, THAT DLC, which was the trigger for everything, maybe in the industry. There is no cure for this, and it will only get worse... especially with you spending years making a game for your "public core". That's not how things work.

I'm less concerned about the protagonist and more concerned with whether ND will deliver gameplay mechanics that aren't limp, sluggish garbage for a change. Overall aesthetic is cool and the presentation is good, but those are basically all the studio does well, so...

There's likely a significant demographic out there who isn't and is starved for it though. Space marine 2 kind of proved that. The industry needs to re-adjust itself and balance its creative offerings. AAA included. Going into one monotone direction and ignoring the other either way isn't a good thing.

I'm curious where is the 4 years of sales data for TLOU2? As far as I'm aware we have about 1.5 years of sales data for TLOU2 and at that point it was selling at a faster rate than TLOU

it just seems premature to decide that the character design is bad despite knowing nothing about the character. maybe there is a reason why the character prefers having a shaved head that makes sense in universe. maybe she is a hardened bounty hunter who realized that having long hair was a bad idea. and anyway, good character design isn't static, and what might pass as good character design in an uncharted game would look out of place in whatever type of story naughty dog is trying to tell here.

Since the topic of "woke" is already extended to +40 pages, maybe instead of adding to the stove, i will allow myself to focus on another issue: does this feel like a new chapter for ND and people who like the games they mentioned in the trailer?
Or is this an extension of a divisive trend started by TLoU2 in the form of a particular narrative backbone that is so inflexible by nature?
A new IP, in my opinion, works best if it draws a clear line between itself and what came before.
It's hard to judge anything based on a trailer like this, but it seems to still be built around a certain narrative, just from slightly different building blocks.
In other words, it feels like something i've already seen before, even if going to space is quite a change.
It's like, leaving planet earth behind isn't enough to get rid of what made this place so annoying, lately.

I have zero issue with a female character but you need a balance, and seems like all developers have bought into a female character as a big statement at the same time. Except if you're all doing then it's not that
I do think this is consultancies like SBI having a stupid influence on game direction, and like all things it will course correct
In the meantime it doesn't affect the quality of games anymore than the era of bald space marines did. Bad games will still be bad and good games will still be good

My honest reaction? What's the point of hiring a beautiful actress only to downgrade her in the process? Seems like a total waste of money. It makes no sense at all. I also think it's degrading to the actress and to her fans who want to see her likeness in the game. If someone scanned me for a game and turned me into a goblin without me being in on it I would be offended and assume the devs were taking the piss. It's a bizarre phenomenon that is now prevalent in almost all western developed AAA games. I don't understand why. You can have an attractive woman on display without making her a sex object. It's not a difficult thing to achieve.
