While the drive won't be the same as the last few years, all he needs really is to have teammates he can constantly depend on to share the bulk of the load in different areas to help him cruise in the regular season and just go up another gear when playoffs commence. If he stays in Cleveland, Kyrie is there for the scoring and Love would still be a pretty good player in the regular season. But if he moves elsewhere, I'm sure he won't go to a team with no help at all.

It'd be great if Kyrie could become the top ten player that he has the potential to be. He's very inconsistent, and this series won't change my mind on that. But he's only 24.

you think so? I feel like he brings so much value against teams with traditional bigs (that is, not 3-point shooting PF's and C's that are as fast as guards). With a ring on his finger, maybe he settles in even more and really finds the consistency we expected of him when he was picked up.

Or do you feel that is unlikely?
He's a great player but he's redundant on a team with Lebron. He will make his impact on this team if he stays but do you want to pay $20m to a guy who is ineffective against GS?

I hate this trade.

which means I love it. I am okay with this.

I suppose it's a question of whether we expect to see GSW in the Finals again next year. If it's against a team with a traditional front court (see: OKC, SAS, and everyone else in the West), Love is fine. Most teams DO NOT have the ability to run 6' 9" athletes at center and shoot 48% from 3 every game. In every other scenario, Love is good.

Kid is still young. And he got a taste of what it's like to win a championship as one of the main guys. He'll get better from here on out, assuming he remains healthy.

I don't think he will ever maximize his potential playing alongside LeBron and Tristian. They are just not the kinds of players you put around Love if you want him to play the 4 (and he can't play the 3 or the 5). The Cavs are at their best with LeBron at the 4, so why spend $20 million on a backup/role player? He was solid this year, but his numbers were still down across the board, and his FG% was not great. Love's value stems from the idea that some GMs might think they can still get Minny Love, not based on what he's done in Cleveland, so the further and further away from that you get, you run the risk that GMs stop thinking Minny Love exists anymore.

if LeBron really wanted to go for GOAT x better than Jordan status he'd go win titles for as many teams that have no titles

I kinda agree with this. Fuck it, at this point, become a merc and just make everyone love you. There are worse things than being loved by Miami, Cleveland and NY when your career is over.

I'm saying man, Jae for Love would be good for both sides. Jae defends and hits the open 3, he would be a strong player to put at the 3. Ainge seems crazy high on Brown so I think this is an actual possibility.

They really should look to move Love. Even if they don't get a star in return, just the roster/cap flexibility could be helpful. I'd say they should ditch Shump but dude has like zero value.

If the Bulls are open to trading Jimmy Butler, would a package consisting of Kevin Love and picks (2 future 1st) be enough?
Jimmy B seems disgruntled playing for Hoilberg.

mad respect to draymond for challenging LeBron's dunk. had LeBron piped it on him, that would be the most replayed and talked about dunk in league history. not many people can turn around to a charging lebron and throw themselves in harms way.

If you want Love to be traded, why not go for Dwight Howard S&T? Love will surely enjoy playing for D'Antoni's 3pt-centric offense, and Dwight might revitalize his career playing for Bron, assuming he'll stay. Good trade for both parties.

LeBron to the Knicks would be a fantastic look for the league. He promised Cleveland A championship...never said he would stick around. If he brought a chip to 3 different cities/teams...even I would have to give it up.

As long as he brings JR with him, I'm cool with this.

I want the "So Right (The Return Remix)"

I'm not dreaming. I don't care where he plays. I am saying, he kept his word, got one for Cleveland. He has no obligation to stay beyond that.
He never said he was going to get one, he said he was going home, presumably to stay. Now he will retire a cavalier and ride into the sunset as the greatest athlete Cleveland has ever had.

I can't disagree with you, as per usual. I just hate letting go of potential. If his FG% was higher, this wouldn't even be a conversation. But if he needs the volume, you're right that he'll never get it in CLE now.

I admit that would be pretty awesome.

I believe he said he wanted to bring a championship back to Cleveland. I would have to re-read his carefully crafted letter to be sure.

Happy for Cleveland because they have waited for a championship for ages. Also happy that the "greatest team ever" nonsense was put to rest. 9 losses in the regular season and 9 losses in the playoffs. Just goes to show you how many god-awful teams there are in the league. That jump shooting craze that was suppose to "change the league" is just another fad, because most teams don't posses that many great shooters. And again, when that shooting team has to face other equally good teams for a full series, they struggle with their shot. Fortunately for GS, the league in general is hot garbage.

Kinda feel bad for OKC. Without that monster game by Klay they would've had a great shot at a championship. They probably would've messed it up, but it would have been a nice series to watch.

not a chance in hell. Butler is like 10X more valuable than Love right now, and the Cavs picks for the next few years are close to worthless. the Bulls are asking the world for Butler if they are going to move him.

The kind of trade Cleveland will realistically have to make for Love is just to get a couple of role players in return. Get a couple of guys that can produce and help them now, but you also get to break up Love's contract from 1 player into 2-3 which helps with flexibility going forward.

It's a terrible trade. Why give up cost controlled players for a max guy who is at his lowest value?

Frisky is shook/frisky da worst.

lmao Celtics cursed everything man
KD staying after a deep playoff run
Loves value going up after this comeback

had the Cavs lost 4-1 I'd say they would have done #3 for Love or #3 x Sully or Olynk

It's funny that OKC choking actually helps Lebron's legacy even more now. If Cleveland had beaten OKC in the Finals the offseason would have been nothing but "Yeah he won but he didn't have to face the Warriors to do it!" Well maybe not in Cleveland, just winning a championship is enough no matter who it was against.

He never said I'm going to bring exactly one championship to Cleveland, and then my debt is paid. If he were to leave, all of the good will he's built up would go away and he's be back in the position he was in when he left. He's not going anywhere, period.

It makes no sense for the Cavs to trade Love for 3 though. They traded Wiggins because they wanted a veteran, now they're going to trade Love for an unproven rookie? If Love goes to the Celtics it's straight up for Bradley or Crowder.

I don't profess to know what LeBron James will decide to do with his remaining years but I know that winning a chip gives him options. It's a lot easier to shake shop if you have delivered a chip.

I guess we will see.

Klay being a poor sport as per usual running back into the locker room again and doesn't even bother to congratulate the other team.

Shocker.

Unfortunate. I imagined him as a class guy. I guess maybe the trash talk during the games got to him. I guess it's easy to talk shit and present swagger when things are going your way.

Cavs should keep Love. Regardless of how it happened, two finals and a championship. Chemistry should only get better.

Kevin Love on this team is a role player. Channing Frye can step in and give them 60% of what Love did for a fraction of the cost. And I don't think chemistry gets better if Love just doesn't fit. The championship honeymoon is going to wear off and he's going to go back to being a 15/8/40%FG guy who plays basically the same position as your best player, and that's just not a smart use of $20 million a year.

I wish I could, but I can detect no lies.

If this plays out the way I hope it will (Cavs winning), a quote from one of my favorite movies as a teen will remind me of this entire season regarding the whole 73 wins and all that.

"There's two bulls standing on top of a mountain. The younger one says to the older one: "Hey pop, let's say we run down there and fuck one of them cows". The older one says: "No son. Lets walk down and fuck 'em all".

The 73 wins was a great feat and I won't take anything away from them. But the ultimate goal to any sports season is that ring. Without it, anything else is really a failure. The Cavs coasted through the regular season. People foolishly panicked. Questioned this or that. All along, it was designed that way. LBJ knows the grind and how important it is to be rested and healthy heading into the real (playoff) season. We're here now. Time to fuck 'em all.

LEBRON WALKED DOWN AND FUCKED 'EM ALLLLLLLLL!

I was fortunate enough to find a pair of tickets to the watch party at The Q tonight, and to be down there with my daughter and then outside downtown afterwards...man, it was everything I ever dreamed of. And I think we behaved ourselves for the most part. I saw a cop car all fucked up but other than that all I saw was pretty minor stuff. It was mostly people of all ages, colors, creeds, whatever happy as fuck and celebrating with each other and feeling that weight lift up off of all of our backs. I gotta be honest, the last 2 minutes of the game were so surreal, it truly did feel like a dream, like I felt out of body or some shit lol.

Thank you, LeBron! Thank you Kyrie!

Goodnight Cleveland!

not to dig way back, but it reminds me of when the Lakers traded for Glen Rice. He was supposed to be the missing piece, but he just never fit the way they thought he would. The Lakers won a title with him in 2000, but still traded him that next summer for a package of players that included Horace Grant's old ass. Horace Grant ended up starting at PF alongside Shaq and helping the Lakers repeat in 2001.

Why the hell not.

He'll be named as

LeBron first of his name, King in the North, Breaker of curse, The Un-unclutch,Father of Steph, Prince of Miami.

If he chips as a knick or a clip that'll be another addition to his name.

I guess his feelings got hurt?

:)

Imagine what kind of legendary status he can achieve if he helps end the 6 year Lakers championship drought.
I could see him in purple & gold. I could see anyone good in purple & gold, tbqh. what a franchise.

an apt comparison, really. The logic is sound as per usual from you. I'm fine with it either way. I just wish that potential would have become realized. Feels bad.

BUT...I'll never feel bad about the trade. Yea, yea Wiggins is pretty good. But without that trade, we would have never made a move for Mozgov, JR and Shump...all of which mattered (Mozgov last season, who's contributions kept the team from imploding really). But I do wish we could have gotten more out of him. I do agree that many players could do what Love gave us for much less...I just...I keep holding out hope that Love could be a 16/10 guy or even a regular 20/10 guy but at 50% shooting instead of 40% shooting. That dream keeps making it hard for me to let him go. Your more objective opinion is probably the correct one.

Getting hard to type. Liquor setting in...
