NeoGAF - as things stand right now, are you planning to buy a PS6? Why/why not?

Do you plan on getting a PS6?

There has been a lot of discussion on the PS5 generation on NeoGAF, and apparently a lot of GAF is seriously convinced that this is the worst generation of PlayStation ever.

I personally do not think so, and coming to PlayStation for the console experience as I do, I think the current experience is actually very good, and shall continue to ensure Sony sells ~100 million machines every generation as long as they keep that maintained and going.

But for you enthusiasts on this community, I have a question. As things stand right now, would you get a PS6?

It's still two years away. Meanwhile, Rockstar grabbing everyone by the balls with a console exclusive GTA6 next spring to force PS5 sales.

If I get a PS5 Pro to play GTA 6, will I even want to upgrade to a PS6 only a couple of years later? Probably not, that's too much money too soon.

Nah. PS5 Pro collects dust now that I am on PCMR. I think what kills it for me is the cost of online- $110 + tax annually. Nah fam…

Unless it's as expensive as PC gaming is, I'll get one probably day one but it all depends on games.

I say that and bought a Switch 2, a system I feel has 0 new games lol

Probably not Day 1. With cross generation support, I'll try to hang onto my base PS5 as long as possible.

Only if they do something actually different with it. It's otherwise just another PC.

This gen was supposed to shine with RT support and superfast SSDs. Neither of these has mattered even slightly almost 5 years later.

Well, load times are much faster. I think we get spoiled by that fact and it is pretty easy to overlook.

To see how fast they dropped the PSVR2, I think i'm done with Playstation. I also felt that way with the PSVita. They don't invest in things I love or loved about Playstation anymore.

It's the same for Xbox, trends change and I'm not their target customer anymore.

I'm plenty happy with Nintendo and PC. I don't feel like I would miss anything by not having the next gen Xbox/Playstation.

I will get one eventually. PS5 is where i play most of my games. And I doubt I will get whatever MS releases next gen. Where else am I going to play my games? I don't do PC gaming anymore.

Just bought a gaming pc last month. Better than the ps5pro in terms of power and with access to all the steam catalog, the true star of the show.
Trying crazy AA games, freaky indies , reading the community. It's good.

The only good that playstation has in my taste is gta vi first than pc. And maybe 'returnal successor. That doesn't justify a new console for me. I could stay for a bloodborne 2 /Demon's souls 2 situation. But not gonna happen.

So it's pretty clear for me.

If 60 fps (+ FG) is a must have, and you only have a PS5... I think you have to consider it.

No disc drive, no buy.

I think there will be one... but they will make you pay for it big time. If you buy physical because of theoretical lower prices, I think you will be unhappy.

If the PS5 wasn't as dogshit, the answer would easily be yes, and on day one. Current gen has completely killed my expectations from Sony, and now that Xbox is pretty much over, Sony having no competition will only lead to even lazier releases. So as is, there's zero chances of me getting the PS6.

Fuck around and find out, i guess.

Looks like at this point I probably won't be getting a PS5 Pro, so I reckon the PS6 will be a nice upgrade over my base PS5.

I'm really curious what the PS6 launch price will end up being. I'd almost say to wait for the PS6 Pro, but if it follows a similar pricing trend of the PS5 - PS5Pro, that's a big no from me.

Not day 1 but......probably. Sucks that they're going to gouge their userbase to hell and back. This is what happens when you don't have competent competition.

No point in a console that doesnt have exclusives that properly use said console.

Not to mention thats its likely in the first 3 or 4 years everything will be crossgen as well

PlayStation fan since the PS1, basically shaped my taste in games due to PlayStation. PS6 might be the first time I ever skip a PS console (if we don't count PS5 Pro of course).

I don't think we need to reiterate the same points over and over, at this point we all know why.

I think I'm done with consoles.
I'll stick with PC unless there's exclusives that catch my interest, which is highly unlikely.

These days GFN has been more than enough for me. I get to play a lot of games on higher settings than even a PS5 pro and I won't be surprised if that doesn't change. All I want is a steamdeck to compliment it. Don't need nothing more.

Right now i have no plans to buy any next gen console. Will be playing most games on PC and im expecting another 2 - 3 years of PS5 to PS6 cross gen games, so any exclusive i might want to play i will do it on PS5, but since Sony been porting almost all games to PC, can wait for ports.

I'll be playing my PS6 games on PC/ next Xbox via steam. I'm buying a PS5 for GT7 though at the end of the month. It's a beautiful driving game and I must have it. Hopefully the next one is on PC though.

Day 1. Getting a console that will ship with better than FSR4 upscaling tech and vastly improved ray tracing capabilities would be worth it alone, not to mention how it will run PS5 games even better.

That prediction is without the drive, btw.

Maybe, Never say never, I sold the PS5 end of 2023. Thats a year and a half without a Playstation.
A empty HDMI port on my Receiver still there if something amazeballs comes along.
(Technically 2 open HDMI ports, Also sold the Series X at the same time.)

I would guess the PS6 to be slightly under the PS5 Pro price with the base console typically being the one that is subsidized. But who knows maybe I'm way off there.

As for waiting for a potential PS6 Pro, I doubt I can hold off personally. I like the first-party studios too much to wait potentially years after they've released games. It's why I'm always an early adopter.

Edit: If the crossgen period between PS5 and PS6 happens to be very long and the first-party output also releases on PS5 with there not being anything really exclusive to the PS6, then the wait for a Pro version would be alot more tolerable for me.

Can't vote. I'm not trashing the poll options; I'm just saying they don't fit my specific thoughts on buying a PS6 while only in June of 2025 without knowing dates, prices, models, and specs.

It seems like the next Xbox will have access to Steam, so most Playstation titles will be available there eventually. After the let down that was Spiderman 2, I don't really feel the need to get Playstation games day 1.

And there isn't anything on the horizon that is all that compelling. They'll announce Bloodborne remaster as a launch title and get massive hype, but after that we will see a Last of Us remaster bundle, Intergalactic enhanced edition and "remasters" of all the titles that sold decently well on PS5 for the first couple years that the PS6 is out. And most titles will also release on the PS5 anyway.

Hopefully their portable version plays games natively. Will get that one.

Desktop system i can keep only one. It will likely be pc or xbox with steam capability.
