New Fantastic Four Trailer

The complicated part of Doom is his backstory with Reed and capturing his ego.

Making him a dictator of a fictional kingdom with metal armor and a green cloak is not hard. I don't fucking get it.

I guarantee you that when Marvel gets this back the first thing they're going to do is make a reference in an Avengers movie to "Latveria" and how Doom is a foreign exchange student who befriended Reed, then went home to his dark kingdom scarred, took it over, etc.

Victor, what has Fox done to you!?!?

The movie itself could still be good, but it's sad to see that Fox is once again messing up one of my favorite Marvel villain ever. He's a dictator who can harness both technology & magic with a metal suit & badass cloak-like clothing, how hard is that to get right?

Doom and full flame human torch look awful.

Dialogue sounds cringe worthy but it could have been taken out of context since this is a trailer . I am hoping this is a good/OK movie but I am not expecting anything beyond that...

I fear that this is going to be as bad as TASM2. At that point the rights should be just given back to Marvel so they can somehow fit it in phase 4 and be part of the new Avengers line-up.

This looks bad. Also, not one single Johnny/Ben banter. Or any kind of joke, for that matter. Or any family vibes. Or anything else that made the FF interesting in the first place.

God, this looks bad.

Great cast and the F4 look amazing..

Almost zero charisma apart from the guy on the right.

God, this looks bad.

No chemistry at all, we don't even see them interacting with each other. Except for Reed's "Speech"

Trailer looks uninspired... Doom looks awful and that background while they are fighting in a volcano or something looks fake as hell.

And I'm really disliking the cast, except for Kate Mara.

Hahaha, what exactly are you trying to show with this comparison? Michael B. Jordan and Miles Teller are loved by critics, and for good reason. Kate Mara isn't as big a name, but she's not exactly a slouch either. I guess she's no Jessica Alba.

Also, Chris Evans looks like a super douche in that pic.

EDIT: Also, Toby Kebbell is amazing and will do fine as Doom.

looks alright

and at least it'll be better than the 2005 version

Almost zero charisma apart from the guy on the right.

how on earth did you get the 'no charisma' thing from those random red carpet photos

if anything they look more charismatic than than the cast below them

I don't understand the need to reinvent the wheel with Doom. Even if you don't want to the sorcerer angle, he's pretty easy to write as "Evil Iron Man".

No one likes Ultimate Doom.

Say it with me,

No one likes Ultimate Doom.

I wanna see Doom beat the shit out of Iron Man. I want Tony Stark to get completely outmatched by a fucking badass who's smarter than he is and has a much stronger suit. Then the rest of the Avengers try to help, but obviously Doom is ready for them.

Goddamn, he needs to be in the MCU. The one thing they are lacking is a really good villain, and Doom could fill that slot nicely.

The dialog is student film level bad.

"We can't change the past, but we can change the future."
"This is our chance to make a difference."
"If we do this, we do it our way."
"He's stronger than any of us. But he's not stronger than all of us!"

Trying hard to like this in any case.

Even Goyer could write better dialogue.

Looks good, love the cast.

It's a great cast. All talented actors. Which is why it's surprising that the acting looks to be one of the worst parts. I don't know if it's just the script alone, bad directing, or they just don't care that much about this product, but every line read that they've had so far sounds awful. And they really don't seem to have any chemistry together.

Sooooooooo is Fantastic Four in the comics good? If so, how come we can never get a decent movie (still having hope for this one). I even like the cartoon series. The Thing was my favorite in the cartoon.

There have been plenty of absolutely amazing Fantastic Four stories in the books. The problem is that just about all of them are too extensive to put into 2h of film. Meanwhile, the origin, which is what they've used for 2 of the 3 films so far, is simply not enough meat to make a good film out of. They have to have a secondary storyline (in both the original Fantastic Four and this new one it's fighting against Dr. Doom, their most popular villain), however, since Fox is incapable of making an interesting villain without taking "artistic liberties" and those "artistic liberties" are solely there to entirely botch the villain, you will never see a good secondary story that has the Fantastic Four save the world from a villain that you can actually take seriously.

And honestly it's baffling me because Dr. Doom is such a clear-cut easy to understand villain, too. Most of the Fantastic Four baddies are. It's depressing that the best depiction of movie Doom is the unreleased 1990s movie:
He looks goofy, but at least he's a dude in an armor and a cloak.

The Fantastic Four would make a much, much better TV show than a movie. The format would allow them to tell the origin in a short manner and have them fight some low-level villains while building the whole family aspect as well as establishing themselves as heroes, before they take on big bads like Doom or Galactus.

Sadly, Fox will continue driving the Fantastic Four brand into the ground so long until either Disney coughs up billions of dollars to get the license back with teary eyes, or until it doesn't allow for any more $ from cheap ass movies like this one.

But they are totally brothers from another mother. Spider Man gets all of Johnny's shit when he dies. We seen his will.

Torch and Spidey are best friends for life. But Torch was always douchy and their initial encounter was cocky douche (Johnny) vs wisecracking nerd (Peter)

That's what caught my attention the most to. It was "cliche phrases" the trailer

I really have to disagree, Ioan Gruffudd and Michael Chiklis were terrible. Evans was only good because of his character and Alba was super beautiful so she got a pass from almost everyone.

Jordan and Teller (from the trailers) seem to fit their characters and have some sort of personality. Can't say much about Mara but she's not a bad fit at all. Same with Bell.

Yeah I remember one of the first comics i ever read was a reprint where Johnny was an asshole to Peter, so Peter crushed Johnny's beach party and clowned him in front of some girls.

If FF ever goes back to Marvel, do you think they'll go younger ff like ultimate version? So spidey and torch will be around the same age.

Live action Dan Castellaneta! We've got live action Dan Castellaneta!

This trailer just gives me that same feeling of "How many times can they get the Fantastic Four wrong?". At least I watched Whiplash recently so now I feel really good about Miles Teller being in just about anything.

Man if anyone's feeling nostalgic for the first 2 films, it's an easy way to discount their opinion on this. That comparison of the casts is hilarious.

They're all great actors and all seem to really fit the characters, but yeah I do think they sound a bit bored. I'm hoping it's just the editing of the trailer though. The voiceover sounds something made specifically for a trailer to me. I do hope it's great, but I'll settle for a good film that I can watch for a couple of hours no matter what the reaction is online.

How can a movie with so many good, young actors look so terrible? You can really see how Fox just slapped this garbage together.
Yeah it really makes no sense but with how it looks like they dropped the ball with doom in this movie.

I hope this movie is good but so far it looks terrible. I have very little expectations.

I really enjoyed the previous fantastic four movies and I have no faith in this movie.

There are some absolutely terrible dialogue in there. Trailer itself was okay. There's nothing special about it and has all the cliche superhero stuff we get today.

Doesn't look like there's anything there that will "Wow" people.

Just cause this needs to be reiterated again and again:

That's what Doom should look like. Fucking Fox.
I don't get it either. We're at the point where people want comic accurate designs on the big screen. Fox is okay with giving us an accurate Deadpool and Colossus but Dr Doom has to look like a glowing green Groot.

His design can be easily pulled off the same way Marvel pulled off Loki.

Nope you are wrong and I'm sure the critic scores over time will prove that.

EDIT. Thinking about it. The reboot will probably score higher but it still won't make it a better movie.

Nah man, I'm confident this'll be better than the other two. Weaker in some areas but overall better.

Edit: Well, now we're just entering subjectivity.

Perhaps so, but with every piece of media they've released thus far, my impression has been the same. Something is just really off about the performances, and maybe that can be attributed to the director not being so good on a larger scale as he was with Chronicle (which I liked).

Doom's look is basically a suit of armor with a helmet and cloak, but it looks regal and intimidating as heck. It's not like it's crazy goofy or anything.

There's also the problem of casting, because what they really need to be going after is a seasoned veteran actor who has stage and screen presence, not, and no disrespect to this guy, a young dude. If they can't find that, then get a Darth Vader situation going where some booming voice talent dubs over a physical actor in the suit.

I just want Dr. Doom. Real Dr. Doom. I don't get why they've compulsively changed everything about that character in both adaptations.

Complaining about the lack of chemistry from a 2 minute trailer.

Alright.

A trailer's job is to sell te product. One of the staples of F4 is the family dynamic. It's not unrealistic to expect that to be shown.

You're setting yourself up to fail.

I just want Dr. Doom. Real Dr. Doom.

Don't sleep on Toby Kebbell. He was the other half of the Shakespearean tragedy that was Dawn of the Planet of the Apes.

He was also the lead of the best episode of Black Mirror (IMO).

Not saying this to you directly, but I keep hearing "I want the REAL Doctor Doom" and, to me, it just reinforces how misguided it is to want a character to be based on a costume. Watch the movie before you decide someone is or isn't a character.

Was hoping this movie would be surprisingly good just as an out of nowhere kind of thing where it turned out GAF was just wrong the entire time...

Looks like there's no hope of that happening.

I support casting unknowns/lesser-knowns for big films and I like that there's no super big top billing star in this one, but I dunno about this... granted it's just a short trailer but there is virtually no excitement or personality coming through from anyone in those clips, which I suppose is the failure of the trailer. Will wait till it releases, but there's no hype for this within me.

Hell, Marvel could even do a compelling Doctor Doom movie. He's just that awesome of a villain. A shame Fox seems to be continuously squandering such potential.

Seriously... I actually didn't know that, and I really enjoyed the film. I like that episode as well, was probably my second favorite.

OK, that's a little more optimistic as far as performance goes at least. But if the backstory that they teased before is true, I'm not sure that even he could save it. And the look is still terribad lol

Evans and Chiklis carry what little is worthwhile in the first two films. I really doubt they could do Reed, Sue, and Victor worse than those films.
