I/O complex. Which we know includes the Kraken decompression, Coherency engines, SRAM, 2 coprocessors and DMA. I think this lot will use more mm^2 than what the XSX APU does but possibly not as much as 22mm^2 more. So what else could be using the space? We know there is a rumour of infinity cache that would use a chunk of mm^2.

Or maybe the calculation of 286mm^2 is off and the die is somewhat bigger? Say 310-320mm^2?
My (over) estimate is a bit bigger but not that high.
~300mm2.

I believe the APU it is at worst case 303-304mm2.

Wow, talk about spread FUD!

All you have to do is to pop the correct faceplate and then you can access the SSD expansion port. No screw driver is required, nor all these steps...

Well, you do have to secure the NVMe....(screwdriver totally required).

Somebody had to do it. :messenger_blowing_kiss:

I like the idea that instead of entire Limited Edition next gen consoles, you may be able to get Limited Edition games that just have the swappable plates instead. Makes a lot more sense than people trying to collect a bunch of consoles. Plus people could probably create some kind of a frame to display plates that aren't currently on the console itself. I think it's gonna be a solid marketing point.

Just imagine, man. This is gonna be a wonderful gen! I wanted the MGSV console, but not gonna buy a console for gimmicks!

Wait...so unconfirmed and just as expensive as the X/S?
X|S storage options are way expensive compared to the same off the shelf parts.
PS5 storage options are the same price as off the shelf parts.

Off the self parts for PS5 will probably cost the same as the storage options for X|S even being twice faster.

The trend in production for off the shelf parts price go down is way higher than the X|S storage options.

Eh I'm not sure tbh, didn't watch the breakdown. saw twitter going apeshit over taking apart a console with a screwdriver to lay it on its side, so this seemed within the realm of possibility

Sony did same with ps4 pro, and every ps4 game I played ran in boost mode anyway. They just covering their arses in a litigation world.

Also Sekiro was not confimed to be using checkerboard on pro, DF could not work it out.

Anyway, whatever caps are in last gen titles for both consoles, hopefully we get patches and updates for everyone if third party play nice.

Xbox One X renders at a native resolution of 3200x1800. PS4 Pro seems to be using a form of reconstruction to render at a resolution of 3200x1800 and downsamples from this resolution when outputting at 1080p.

Cool Cool.... So same price as the X/S expansion cards.

The video you posted had all kinds of nonsense steps. You do need a screwdriver to remove a small metal plate securing the SSD tho, but that's it.

Basically the same thing as replacing the hdd in a PS4

same speed

Around the same price yes but it is twice the speed... an SSD with the same speed than X|S is way cheaper.
And it will have cheaper and expensive options... it is not a fixed price like X|S options.

Example.

Samsung 980 Pro (one of the expensive options):
$229.99 1TB

I'm not sure that the speed matters to the average consumer, all they're going to look at is expansion size and price. If they are both the same price and size then that's all that matters at the end of the day.

The question that no one knows if whether general consumers care about the speed that much or if capacity and ability to play next gen games is the main thing.

That is a question existing only in your mind.

Xsex/Xsess has the MS proprietary add on.

PS5 consumers may choose an off the shelf SSD that meets the PS5 spec.

The prices are the same per byte. The PS5 compliant ones are twice as fast for the same price as the MS badged ones.

Different form factor; the XS drive is a small form factor.

Still kinda expensive either way, and PS5 has an advantage as it doesn't require the more expensive small form factor.. of course it also requires brand new expensive fast drives... but it also should have better load times so there's that.

I have purchased 1tb m2.2230 earlier this year (toshiba bg4) and it tiny, but price wasn’t at £202

At the end of the day, you have a PS5 or an Xbox, you want an extra 1TB of storage. You buy what works for the box you are upgrading.

XBlive only
per 3 month $24.99 or $100/year
per month $9 or $108/year

Gamepass only
$10/mo or $120 per year

Gamepass + XBlive + xCloud
$15/mo or $180 per year

Are your sure that "Gamepass only" does not include XBLive?
I know it did not before, but at the ONL Gamescom event was a Gamepass (not ultimate) advertising which says "All benefits of XBox Live Gold".

Below a timestamped video, with the XBox Live Gold claim at 2:15:55

Ok, can you please provide some of those public information you are basing your assumptions on?
Just recently we were saying that heat was a function of power and from the PS5 video we now know that the power supply in PS5 is 350W vs 300W in the XSX. Assuming that both use more or less the same % of available power, why are you saying "you will have more problems with an XSX than with a PS5"?

I think BGs BGs is talking more about where and how you put the machine. The form of PS5 and cooling system is more practically designed as whether you have it horizontal or vertical the exhaust is back facing. An XSX is best vertical. Horizontal the exhaust could be facing another piece of equipment or the side of a cabinet it's in.

Does the speed have any value to the consumer? If not, then the fact that the Samsung 980 Pro is twice as fast as the seagate expansion drive is irrelevant.

Yeah, the only thing that will basically matter is price/gb. I like the idea of hot swappable pcie drives however I dont think anyone really cares except for people at servers farms.

Actually no, I think he was referring to what John Linneman said about the PS5 that we are going to be surprised in a good way, it was on today's livestream

Damn, so awkward. I feel for John here as all the others reacted like Sony is a dirty word not to be said in DF towers. I hope John's punishment isn't too harsh.

I'd love to know if they really have fell out with Sony and will have to just buy their own PS5's for tests.

You will understand the point soon or late.
You will have options for PS5 cheaper than what you will have on X|S.

You will pay less for a better (faster) product.
Plus you can use the SSD in any PC/notebook with M.2 slot... it is not something you will lose the investiment.

MS solution is like PS Vita SD solution... expensive, hard to find and only works on Vita (I have one 128GB and it is useless now).
