We don't think much about this but what if you spill water on the top... monkaS

They should've put green LEDs in that fan, such a waste :messenger_pensive: I mean I wouldn't buy it either way, but it would look so much cooler.

Lol. Rushed and cheap "pie_tears_joy: It's only more powerful and smaller than the PS5. But they didn't think it through apparently...
And fatter*

the APU on XSX is likely $200, so 20% of that is $40. last gen the APUs were roughly $150 and we know they are more expensive to fab now

Yeah, I have seen that but that facility does not produce all the PS4s that Sony sells. the vast majority are still made at FOXCONN factories.

though I suspect Sony will be producing more and more PS5s in these autonomous factories this gen.

I got roasted by pointing out that the air intake its not exactly ideal. This pic actually looks even worse with many air holes being blocked.

Seems like the primary intake will be from the vent at the back. But given that they’re literally right next to the heatsink doesn’t the intake air get warmed?

I disagree. They get hot. They need airflow. Some need heat sinks and airflow.
I think it depends on the SSD. 970 Evo+ was the benchmark leader for some time, and it doesn't come with a heatsink. I'm not sure the 980 does either. Samsung seems to have very good tech on their chips and controller, that generate lots of throughput without generating a massive amount of heat. I know when I was shopping around for drives, I passed on a number of SSDs that had heatsinks but worse performance than the 970. My target was a laptop, so I just don't have the space for a heatsink in here. I'd personally steer clear of anything that demands a heatsink, because Samsung gets you both performance and durability in a low-profile design. I don't think I've ever seen mine go over 50C, and that's in a laptop with dusty vents, and minimal airflow

The WD Black doesn't seem to need heatsinks either, and it's another benchmark SSD, along with the 900-series from Samsung. I feel like anything sporting a heatsink is trying to get performance through voltage/frequency tricks than class-leading process. Samsung seems to lead the way in solid-state process.

"The WD_BLACK™ SN850 NVMe™ SSD reaches irrational 7000MB/s read speed and 5300MB/s write speed2"

So... fast enough?

And I don't think that apart from exclusive games from Sony studios, productions will use the maximum speed of these discs.
Maybe cheaper SSD as a second one for games where 7GB/s disk will only change the level loading speed is not such a stupid option.

We don't need to explain this again, but here is the short version:

PS5: 12 channels per 12 chips, 1:1. Ease of data streaming, less prone to heat problems and throttling. Plus it's directly cooled by that unified, massive heatsink.
NVMe m.2 high end: 8 channels per 16 chips, 1:2. Data could get cramped, overheat = throttling.

PS5: 6 priority levels, so you can make 6 unique orders.
NVMe m.2 high end: only 2, so might have ancient problems like lip syncing that happened in the FF16 trailer.

So until Sony approve something, those click-baity reports should only be viewed as some sort of comedy.

Still better to wait for Sony to release an official list of supported drives, and get the best benchmarked one for random reads/writes from the list. I have a feeling that the 980 and new WD Black won't be supported. It depends on how much overhead is required for the expansion slot. 3rd party cards come with their own controllers, so I'm not sure if there's a bottleneck going SSD controller<->PS5 controller, or if Sony will have a minimum number of channels required on supported drives. Raw speed might not be the only requirement.

The flood gates have started to open on fast SSD.

Samsung 980 Pro $229.99
Western Digital SN850 $229.99
Sabrent Rocket 4 Plus no price yet
So MS is selling a 2.4 gbps ssd for the same price you can buy a 7 MBps ssd for. When I pointed this out in the SSD thread a couple of weeks ago I received like 10 laughing emojis from certain MS fans. That SSD should be half the price.
I like this mode, mate. Please don't flip the switch.

lol. TBH, If Sony had done this months ago, things wouldve been different. There was zero reason to keep this a secret and invite so much concern and FUD. This is a fantastic piece of machinery and Sony shouldve released a teardown immediately after the June reveal of the console.

And sorry, but I just cannot get on board with anti-consumer shit like cross gen games and a certain underpowered console I am not allowed to criticize on this board. So you will still continue to see me criticize Sony and MS for those moves.

they asked 511 US-based candidates. Way too small sample size to say anything.
even worse, only 15% of them managed to pre order, thats about 75 people.
And until now the number of pre orders is mostly limited by the number of consoles supplied, and here both XBox and PS5 could have sold more pre orders...

Whatever, we will see the real numbers in a few months...

Apple talking about the trash can Mac Pro.

“Being able to put larger single GPUs required a different system architecture and more thermal capacity than that system was designed to accommodate,” the exec is reported as saying. “So it became fairly difficult to adjust.”

The xbox sardine squeezed box. Will face the same fate. Don't know what xbox were going for with this next gen rollout ,but it all seems rushed, cheap. Seems their next gen plan was really about xcloud, gamepass. Maybe fanboys change their mind & they made hardware. And they have been trying to do it mid range to cheap product quality product.

They are shook of Amazon & Google. So they most likely invested heavy in cloud gaming.Hardware seems an after thought.

And the 2013 Mac Pro had way more "breathing room"

First part: It's better that way, avoid it being copied, and it's only been patented recently.

2nd part: Underpowered is debatable, let's build our thoughts according to games, and we all know they look very good.

Cheers, mate! :messenger_bicep: :messenger_sunglasses:

maybe he also works for a "magazine"/site who knows.

Or he has 3d-printed his PS5 to get some clicks ;)

Its 100% to get clicks.

I just don't buy how well controlled of an environment the Japanese previews were done then they send a unit/units out like this.

I want all the info as well but its not happening like that.

Plus in our Discord someone said he already took down the PS5 hashtags on his Instagram but I dont know about that.

Its pretty easy to buy CU's. But the rest of the specs are average, SSD is a low end, usb slots are not new, why is it not WIFI 6. This is cutting corners on tech. And worse of all this shit look premium? This off the shelf parts at its finest.

this is just FUD. taking a quote outside of context, and spread bullshit about xbox, like seriously, did you even read the fucking quote?

Their issue was that you couldn’t UPGRADE the mac pro, you couldn’t put a bigger GPU inside the box.

That seems to explain why the Mac Pro, until today, went more than three years without spec refresh — an entirely unworkable situation for pro users who need top-of-the-line hardware.

Schiller told reporters that the Mac Pro’s thermal issues “restricted our ability to upgrade it

That was the issue, nothing else. No thermal issues. Everything is running fine as is, you just couldn’t upgrade.
soo when you are saying xbox will have the same fate then it just meants that you cant put a bigger gpu inside the xbox series x. So what? Is there any console in history where you can upgrade the GPU on your own? lol

Explain to me why you would need wifi 6. Why? Ethernet is million times better anyways and the wifi that XSX is absolutely enough for everyone. Wifi is a waste of money. You don’t need it for the games. Otherwise tell me a good use case.

Like i said before, designed to follow form over function. They designed the container and then tried to find a way to fit everything inside. Just looking at how they tried to jigsaw everything inside the small space will tell you everything you need to know about the design. Classic American consumer electronic design. It looks good and has a beastly cooling solution with the vapor chamber. I have no doubt it will not fail easily as they seemed to have learned a lot if you look at how they started this gen with the various revisions.

Ask me about my wife's perfect butthole
Apple talking about the trash can Mac Pro.
Yes.. the 2013 Mac Pro.. a $3k-$10k graphics workstation with a beefy CPU and 2 GPUs,500 watt PSU.. had to change it's design from that circular nonsense after the 2013 model was a bit underpowered as the thing couldn't really fit a modern graphics card, which are the size of a PS4 on their own.

Totally relates to this $500 box with an APU in it.

I think it will have to do with VR. Sony will most likely do completely wireless headsets for PSVR2, and Wifi 6 allows super low latency for that.
