AFAIK PS5 has 3x USB 3.1 Gen 2, 10Gbps, and XSX has only USB 3.0 (also known as 3.1 Gen 1), 5Gbps. PS5 has wifi6 vs wifi5 on XSX, and PS5 has Bluetooth 5.1 vs 5.0 on XSX. We'll know more about these going forward and seems like one won't age well.

Oh boy! WTF was microsoft thinking skimping on USB ports speeds? Thats like very important considering data transfer from external drives to internal.

Weird

Yeah, I hear you. Nothing wrong with discussing stuff like this either, especially if you're taking some report like this and JUST discussing it rather than representing it as industry wide fact or something. But as you say...humans tend to identify STRONGLY with things they buy....teams or groups that they follow, etc. We're very tribal and divide ourselves into groups a lot. From Ford/Chevy and cars to favorite sports team...then to these plastic boxes that we buy for entertainment and want to believe we made the BEST choice...some tend to get REALLY invested in it all.

I don't know about 'retiring' from this place. It's a lot of fun. I do assume the thread will be closed down sometime after release since there will be no more 'speculation' needed, but there will be other places to discuss new things. Real world performance and of course the inevitable comparisons between games running on both platforms... Point is, there's still a lot to discuss.

As for THIS thread...I still feel there's an awful lot we don't know, so we can still speculate on a lot. So still a lot of fun and hopefully mature dialog to be had!

It has been fun, i agree and i would say i have learned a lot of stuff from people. Although i don't really dabble in posts outside of this thread, i do read most of them, on the console stuff, i have improved my technical knowledge by a lot thanks to a lot of users.

what i am talking about now is harmless banter being regarded as extreme and bannable.

But we see what happens.

This is all just cost cutting and philosophy. MS went with going heavy on the GPU/CPU as well as dramatically improving system bandwidth. Sony went with a different angle on the GPU/CPU but focused on the bandwidth of the system with that money instead. Just...different ways to do things.

The good news is that with whichever box you choose, you will get a HUGE change over current generation hardware. Both look to be pretty well future proofed as well so as more people get 4k and even 8k TV's...the systems will accommodate them well.

Damn...does anyone else think it's just damn WEIRD that we haven't seen more videos showing how fast games launch and stuff like that? I mean as far as I know, we really just have the suspend/resume video from Microsoft and then on the Sony side, just seeing the arch-stone warping in DS and then seeing how fast you can resume after you die in Godfall. We need to see more!

Oh, yeah, I agree with you then. Harmless discussion is what it is. A FEW people may get over-excited by it but in general it should just be handled maturely. We're all capable of hearing differing opinions from our own without melting. Just...sometimes we seem to forget that. :)

Yep, this thread could probably do with closing. It’s become a magnet for the console warriors, and has gotten a bit tedious.

Don’t worry fish boy, things will be better once the consoles are out 👍

The data that is stored on those is probably encrypted so that only one machine can use it anyway. Otherwise, what is stopping you from from loading games on there and selling them on Ebay?

I've already answered this but as long as I sign in on my account I can play on any Xbox, I do it now with Xbox One and an external SSD.

The DRM ties the download to your account, so you'd have to also sell access to your Xbox Live account.

Which means you would just be selling the games and you'd no longer have access to them, just like any used game sale... and nobody really wants to buy an entire account it's just not something people do.

so now spilling water on consumer eletronics is just a xsx problem, if you spill water on ps5 what do you think will happen? Do you think it will absorb it and make you a tea from one of the dust holes? for god's sake at least don't be stupid when you try to be a console warrior. this is getting ridiculous, just buy what you like more and stop

No, one of my cats literally peed on my PS4 Pro on the top and nothing happened, even though it was super wet (yes ew...) imagine that on the Switch or XSX

did you see the Test? It’s pretty fast already. Most customers don’t even have drives that can feed that speed. It’s good that they invest all the money into building the most powerful hardware and studio acquisitions.

I don’t need wifi 6 or an USB port that is faster than most HDDs out there

I don't know, there is so much bullshit going on. To me, it seems if you just mention the word heat, it brings in an army of the usual rabid fanboys. seconds later they are all trying to get you banned.
That's because you are acting as if you are concerned knowing full well you won't buy a XSX, and implying there's a heat issue when it's been debunked. You read a lot of posts you say, well then you know there's no issue with the heat so why do you keep bringing it up?

It's a great question.

A lot of community members like to play the "fun" and "banter" line but they're opening spreading FUD do so with joy. They link random twitter handles in here to bitch about and complain for pages upon pages, throwing up Craig memes to anybody who counters their point and then somebody gets banned and they're like "wow guys, its all in good fun, we're just having banter"

Right...

Edit: case in point, see post below mine. If this was a Timdog tweet, we'd be mocking it. But it's Jaydub and we like his toxic fanboy attitude because he's on our team so let's share his trash.

Yeah, but I don't want it closed YET. Like I said, there's still too much we DON'T know about both systems. Really an odd thing given that they come out in just about a month. So I think we can get people to chill a little bit on being overly sensitive and try to discuss things more maturely. At least until we know it all and the speculation factor is gone.

I don't think it matters when the internal SSD can't flood the 3.0 bus, and I'm not certain what the PCI bus in the XSX maxes at, but it wouldn't make much sense to have an external bus that exceeds that. I think they spec'd the USB ports correctly, but i could be wrong. I'm too lazy to look it up.

And if you don't like what i am saying, hit the report button like the rest of the fanatic xbox people and get me banned.

I have no problem going and it will make your life a little bit easier.

It can, 10gbps vs 5gbps is the double, 10gbps = 625mb/s of transfer rate (xsx reads are 2500mb/s). 10gbps would be 1.25gb/s of course which is a lot better to copy/paste games.

Let's go guys, Zen 3 hype!!

Sorry, don't kick me out please, just excited for some great CPU news here 🏳
I'm just waiting for the 3600s to drop in price before I bite, hoping today's news helps nudge it down from £190 :messenger_weary: Then I gotta pick a mobo with onboard optical and decide if I get a 5500XT or a 1650 Super :messenger_weary:

USB C display port alt mode. For VR. That is why they have a 350W power supply as well even though the SoC won't draw most of that. A single USB C cable will carry video, data and power to the VR headset.

Wouldn't the 3.1 gen 2 spec still be in play? I think the quest link setup uses usb 3.1 gen 2 as well so it won't be a hindrance but definitely doesn't need type-c port.

Sony is not using that chipset.

They are using NXP's chipset (a company based in the Netherland's), and NXP's acquired Marvell's Wi-Fi and Bluetooth technology in Dec, 2019, so it's a Marvell's chipset.

The model number that Sony has is not listed on the NXP website, but they have two chipset's that are close to those specifications, the NXP 88W9098 (link), and the NXP 88W9098 (link).

The part number looks to be NXP 88W9100.

Based on the numbering scheme that NXP uses, it's possibly a more advanced or just custom part.

A great help to my research is this thread (here at Neogaf) so thanks to Apollo Helios for that.

Based on the application with the Peruvian state (Grant of Equipment Authorization) (similar to the FCC in the US) no 6GHz frequencies are mentioned, so the PS5 will not support technology similar to Qualcomm Wifi6E.

A closeup of Sony's Wifi chipset in the PS5.

It depends. Type A only carries data. 4 Pins, D+, D-, Power and Ground. So if you are doing video over that cable, it needs to be encoded and sent on the normal USB data bus.

Type C has 24 pins, which due to the connector being reversible, is 12 effective pins. Type C includes the USB data bus, but also includes pins needed for Display Port. Thus it can send video over the cable independent of the USB data bus.

Given the Xbox doesn't support VR, it doesn't need Type C. What you lose is basically a reversible connector.

Power delivery that high is not possible due to regulations about the main power cord being only rated up to 250W at USA, since you get lower voltage then current has to be higher. PSU are more beefy, because PSU are most effective at 70-80% of their utilisation.

My mistake. I thought it was bytes and not bits. I hate that speeds are still presented in useless bits, when storage is all bytes.

Wait.... no im connecting the reciever i to “ arc hdmi of the tv” >>>then my ps4 pro is connected to BD hdmi of the reciever
You can connect the PS4 to an HDMI port of your tv to have support for VRR and high FPS (although I don't know if it supports that) and then the HDMI ARC to the receiver. I haven't looked at it but I suppose that TV should support eARC and support Dolby Atmos or DTS-HD passthrough

XSX has Bluetooth? That's a new feature for them if correct.

WTF! I heard that at one youtube video!

No Bluetooth for Xbox Series X
The Xbox Series X won't have Bluetooth, similarly to the Xbox One, Xbox One S, and Xbox One X. The reason is simple; the Bluetooth signal isn't strong enough to meet Microsoft's specifications for latency. Microsoft uses its proprietary signal, dubbed Xbox Wireless, for connecting controllers and other accessories, like the Turtle Beach Stealth 600 and the SteelSeries 9X wireless headsets.

.

Need to edit my post then.

You give me that laugh emote Bo_Hazem Bo_Hazem , but I was being serious. OG X1 doesn't have Bluetooth and I don't believe X1X has that feature either. If XSX has even an old version, I can see it being useful for KB/Mouse etc. I was trying to confirm that with you. Have you seen where it has Bluetooth?

Edit: Nevermind, I see your new post.

Spilling water has always been a problem. If you have a top without holes, you can probably get away with it, and that would not be the case with the XSX in the tower position.

The C7 cable and C8 inlet as used in the PS5 is rated to 2.5A at 250VAC by the IEEE but can be designed to go higher. It is not limited to 250W.
