Anyone watched the Zen 3 reveal today, the CPU is monstrous and there have been some interesting changes over Zen 2. AMD revealed that it will have unified CCX (cache) which RGT leaked a while back, the same feature which he said will be on the PS5 CPU and now AMD has touted as an important feature of the Zen 3 architecture specifically for gaming. Paul did mention that Sony wanted this feature because it would be really important for latency and data access.

Mark Papermaster, CTO of Technology and Engineering at AMD on the unified cache design:
Uh so PS5 CPU has Zen 3 features? What?

Microsoft claims it's like the Xbox One X. This is also not like a PC. They've put a bit more time in engineering this of course, cooling isn't like a general PC either.

With that configuration I would need to see to believe or see a thousand external reviews.

I'm sure Microsoft has torture tested this thing just as much as Sony has with PS5. With that said, it doesn't surprise me it can get warm/hot to the touch based on what's obviously in the photo. I think someone posted in this thread how it's similar to the "trash can" design from one of the Macintosh computers. It ran hot, but stayed silent. Hopefully once games designed for the Series X start showing up they don't cause any issues once that GPU is being pushed.

I'm still looking forward to the day Microsoft shows off some real special first-party games. I'll probably pick one up when that happens. Until then, I think it's clear Sony has put more thought and effort into the cooling performance of their console versus Microsoft. It may be a big boy, but it's got big cooling.

I do not deny it, surely MS has tried and tortured it. I generally don't trust AMD xD, much less such a tight device unless I see it myself.

WD has made some excellent SSDs. Second only to Samsung IMO. Very competitive on price too. I would've gotten a WD drive instead, but I wanted the best available, and the 970 edged the Blue/Black (can't remember which one).

Well if by “blue/black” you mean Sabrent, I believe thatthey are currently the worlds fastest NVMe SSD? The Rocket 4 Plus:

(We should create an OT of accepted NVMe SSD’s for PS5....but maybe that’s best for when Sony actually releases their officially approved list or whatnot).

Because the console was supposed to ship 2019 and all the titles shown so far are PS4 games that shifted to PS5 development that have been in the works for a while... i've said this multiple times and people got upset with me but the fact that most of the games have been officially revealed to be cross-gen it should be more obvious to people. Not saying the games look bad or are held back in any way, i'm just saying they're showing us PS4 games running on the PS5 dev kits with snazzy next gen enhancements added on.
Is this what you want to believe?

Everyone has their own opinions. I haven't been within 10 miles of an XSX (that I'm aware of anyway, LOL) so I can't say if it is hot/cold/neutral etc. Just looking at it, I would assume that the housing is going to be a touch warm or "hot" if you prefer, just based on proximity of heat producing components to the outside case. I think the PS5 will generate a good amount of heat also, putting some air gaps between the components and the side panels will stop you from feeling that, but won't change anything in a real sense. You and a few others have a way of mentioning these reports in a very negative way (and very deliberately so), which at this point is unjustified. There's a good chance the temps are better than PS3/PS4 Pro, and no one cared about those so why would they care about this? Did you throw away your PS4 for being hot to the touch, every model released has been?

If the system has a real overheating issue, it will be discovered after launch when real people have them (clickbait conspiracists not included, those will be in good supply for both) and will be reported on by credible sources.

As of right now the "overheating" concern for XSX is no different from the "smartshift" concerns for PS5 or the dev kit heating issues (which apparently were somewhat real but are just as irrelevant today since Sony went an entirely different direction for the final design).

Just have fun and don't worry about other posters being "sensitive", chances are they aren't sensitive about it at all they are just expressing a different point of view. If I make a bunch of 9.2TF posts I expect the backlash.
I was almost cancelled for saying my PS4 Pro was literally heating up my room. I had to use a portable thermostat to measure the before and after temperature of my gaming room to prove that I wasnt lying. it went from 70-75 in just an hour of playing Horizon.

We will see if the PS5 does the same, but I wouldnt be surprised if both the xsx and ps5 heat up your room. My PC is doing it right now and I have very fancy CPU cooling in there with like 5 fans in the case. Thats just the price you pay for more power.

I hate the clickiness of the LB and RB sooooo much... I don't understand why they keep using that stupid click...
I feel bad for anyone who played sekiro on that controller. An entire game built around parrying every single attack mapped to LB.

the star wars second to last boss broke me because it was mostly a parry fight and I just couldnt win. I switched to my DS4 and beat him on the first try. it felt like a completely different game.

that controller needs a massive revision.

One thing I do find interesting is the fact that the MS settled with WiFi 5.
They will push X Cloud in the coming months. And they do have great streaming tech, probably with better latency compared to most other companies out there, but then they lose a lot of that latency when streaming the game and inputs over WiFi5 compared to WiFi6.

Or am I completely wrong on this one?

it doesnt matter if there is wifi6 or wifi5 in your Xbox if you stream from data centres to your mobile device (if your mobile device supports wifi6 and you have got wifi6 router at home (most people don’t) you will take full advantage of xCloud

But MS did not even support retail games anymore.
How they will help GameStop?

He's more of a hardcore PC gamer so I think those are the kind of figures they consider "crushing", then again there are some impressive numbers there as well, not just gaming, the Zen 3 has a significant improvement over Intel's flagship CPU in content creation as well. In honesty, I'm not really a PC gamer so I'll confess my ignorance on that, I'm still new to a lot of this stuff.
Uh so PS5 CPU has Zen 3 features? What?
Yeah, RGT has been saying this for a long time now lol he even called the PS5 CPU a Zen 2 "Plus", however he did say that PS5's CPU won't benefit from the massive IPC gains on Zen 3, it's just small architectural stuff but will have a significant impact on performance.

I guess your definition of crushing is different then mine for most games a 5-6% frame increase at 1080p

They have never taken the lead in the gaming space, their single-core performance has never been that great, compared to their multi-thread performance, be able to maintain their lead in match the performance in the gaming space at the price they are doing it, is really the cherry on the top.

Controller isnt that great. I hate playing action games on it. Anything that maps to LB or RB is instantly unplayable. But thats besides the point, the DS4 is a pretty good controller too. You HAVE to upgrade your OS and your controller every gen. you just have to in this industry. MS just wants to make their own rules and cheap out.

XSX virtually has only 10 GB of vram because they other isnt fast enough. Of course it needs more.
Yeah I love the controller. Beside the elite version there isn't anything better, for me. The OS thing I don't have a problem with at all... Do you think Sony builds the OS from the ground up and doesn't use anything from the previous version? You basically want a complete new UI, an overhaul, but why?

Do you think they put in a 12TF GPU to then have a RAM bottleneck?

Again, the whole point of a generational leap is to advance everything. not just the GPU. Nothing is perfect. You should always be striving for more.

I thought 13.5 gb of vram was going to be a bottleneck next gen. 10 GB is definitely going to be a bottleneck. Regardless, even if it isnt, the point stands, this was a cutback or a cost saving decision.

To be fair, I think 448 gbps is going to be a bottleneck on the PS5 as well. Cerny mentioned in his talk about how ray tracing is very memory bandwidth intensive. Sony also made a cost saving decision here but MS just made way too many to hit this 12 tflops figure.

Wow. They even turned the Microsoft Retail Stores into a service.

IntentionalPun

Ask me about my wife's perfect butthole
All MS bundled games are Xbox Store vouchers code... not retail discs.
Gamepass is something made to kill Gamestop not to help them.

Don't know WTF the first statement even means.

As far as the second statement; all digital stores compete against retailers. Why single out Gamepass?

It's a balance, and MS isn't any more anti-retail than any other company selling devices with a digital storefront. Contrary to popular idiotic belief, no console manufacturer actually wants retail to die. And Gamepass doesn't exist to stop people from buying games, retail or not.

Just a small correction, I thought RGT initially leaked the unified cache design on the Zen 3 CPU however AMD had already revealed they were planning this around 7 months ago. Whether RGT leaked this feature before that I'm not sure, I'll have to snoop around. Now the question remains whether PS5 has this design, we still are yet too see a a diagram or deep die shot of the PS5's CPU, however it would make a lot of sense for the PS5 to have this considering their focus on low-latency data access.
Are you saying that the PS5 CPU, which is a Zen 2 CPU according to both Sony and AMD, has the biggest differential factor between Zen 2 and 3 but somehow they don't say it's based on Zen 3 because reasons?

I'm just waiting for the 3600s to drop in price before I bite, hoping today's news helps nudge it down from £190 :messenger_weary: Then I gotta pick a mobo with onboard optical and decide if I get a 5500XT or a 1650 Super :messenger_weary:
*Goes back to refreshing Amazon and eBay*

The 3600 should be quite cheap now, actually bought one around march / april with a really good x570 mobo. My goal was to stopgap for a few months until Ryzen 5000 would be out, so time to upgrade next month :)
You're aiming at 1080p gaming I assume, right?

If the budget is not super tight, maybe check the ryzen 5600 (non x) and hold fire until we hear what rdna 2 cards will be out. You're clearly not aiming at the biggest die, but potentially at the budget friendly sku of the new cards.

If you're dead set on getting the old architecture, then going 2nd hand market might be the way, will be a ton of people like me getting rid of good silicone as soon as the new cpu/gpus launch.

MS from 201x (? I don't have the exactly year) or so forward changed all their Xbox bundles to have a voucher code instead a retail disc.

Mainly streaming and porn lol. I don't even own a steam account. Might make one after I build it though.

'If' it's confirmed that is not a "small stuff" at all, this would make PS5's CPU better than XSX's. But i'll choose to remain a bit sceptical for now.
