Not sure why they're saying "Likely work". Doesn't every game released after July have to work with ps5 boost mode compatibility? Or am I misunderstanding that?

Has anyone on here tried these in their media cabinets? If so, how well do they work and how loud are they? Looking to install on in my cabinet before the next gen is upon us to make sure I have great airflow throughout! I figured could plug it into the console's USB ports in the back so it is only powered on when the console is on.

Series S will not have a 4K buffer of background recording which will very likely make the OS footprint smaller and the assets are claimed to be around 30 percent smaller for some games. But even with those aspects helping its still pretty small. Depending on what you are playing you are looking at 6-10 games at most installed at once.

No baiting or garbage posts!!!! Have you guys considered making the primary topics for each platform (the consoles, PC) sticky. It would make it easier to see when those threads have been updated from the main page. I can understand users wanting this thread to be purely news/speculation related without all the nonsense from users that don't contribute in meaningful areas. Where those charts come from they explain that DS4 is polling more frequently in BT than when it's wired. You can see that because wireless DS4 is also faster than wired DS4.
That says nothing about BT versus other protocols.

He mentioned because PS5 supports WiFi6, the PSVR2 could be wireless. He throws out a value of 9Gbps for WiFi6.
From the regulatory filings of the PS5, we know a few things about the radio inside the coming PlayStation.
It supports a max of 80MHz bandwidth, and uses 2x2 MIMO. This gives a theoretical max of 1.2Gbps (versus 866Mbps for WiFi5 with the same settings).
In order for WiFi6 to support 9.6Gbps ... you need a 4x4 system, and to use 160MHz + 160MHz (total 320MHz bandwidth).
He assumes the max possible throughput for the spec applies to the PS5, it doesn't.
I still feel the USB-C makes the most sense for PSVR2.

Guys, ain't it bad that PS5 fan is covered from top by the fin itself? I ask this because I am trying to find a place for PS5 and got a cabinet where there is empty space in front and back but sides and top not so much. But I think if Sony designed this way PS5 - that the fins itself are creating "enough" space above fan - it should not be a problem...

a big old ssd (but surely cheaper) seems to be a great option to go on both next gen for bc games and storage.
edit :lol so borderland 3 compile shaders on boot on console too...i thought it was a pc oddity.

Does anyone know if PS4 games currently stored on a USB HDD are "Plug & Play" on the PS5? I do have a 4TB USB HDD currently in use with my PS4. I only have a 10 Mbit line, so it would be bad if there would be mandatory complete Re-Downloads / huge additional downloads needed before all these games stored there can be used on PS5 when I use this HDD with Ps5, maybe because of a different file system or whatever.

Regulatory filings from Taiwan's NCC
There are a number of reasons to use WiFi 6. Throughput isn't the only one. Lower latency is another.
There are NO commerical WiFi 6 products supporting 320MHz yet (so no 9.6Gbps theoretical throughput).

Let me take your post at face value. What matters is whether you can have an external HDD attached (or SSD) and easily swap games on and off of that internal drive.
We know that you can swap games in and out easily, even to drives your now using on your current gen console. That's true on Series X/S (and I'm sure it will be the same on PS5).
The only difference will be how many games you can store concurrently on the internal SSD. If you use 'Demon Souls' as an example, it will be twelve games on Series X, ten on PS5 and four on Series S, without any external support at all.
Don't forget, while next-gen games will have to be on the internal drive to play them, you can store those games on an external HDD when your done.
Very few people would be playing more than four games at the same time, so 'scam' is a ridiculous characterisation. Not surprising but ridiculous none-the-less.

I had never thought of checking the actual configs either, you kind of just assume the highest numbers. USB-C would still be great for VR.

There's also that chance that you flip the paradigm on a wireless streaming unit by making it more Quest like. Give the headset enough compute to handle most of the tracking, etc. and you might not need as much data transferred from the headset to the console, a low latency stream from the console, ad hoc and in the same room, shouldn't be a problem even with current-gen wifi. Would all depend on how much you could reduce the data you need to transfer to the console, if even possible at all.

In essence a 1TB sata SSD would be a good storage and playing solution for last gen games. Same should be true for the PS5, except for the fact that the PS5 has usb 3.1 gen 2 slots available. So would be interesting to see this exact same test applied. I suspect the sata SSD would still be a viable option, but that the nvme usb option may perform better than it did on the Xbox series X.

I suspect they will be plug and play but will not take much advantage of the loading speeds. They should however run faster in general on the frame rate side of things . This is just an educated guess.

That difference will be interesting to see, on Windows you hit a wall on games that use traditional HDD access patterns that devalues NVMe quite a bit even when on-board, but PS5 is FreeBSD? based so it might fair better.
