I keep my systems out on a stool and over a foot away from a wall to prevent the hot air being recirculated. People keeping these things in enclosed spaces are asking for troubleThere's no upgrade for DMC5 till this game. Which is annoying I already have this game. Not paying another 40. Anyway as expected. Looks like devs are still scared of just loading into game. Giving people time to run off to the toilet etc. They are keeping the screens with press X & O. Maybe the press to play button will go away.

When the cooling is designed like the below. Pretty much can see this is stand alone ,standing tower not built for shelves.
If you put the XSX horizontally in your cabinet the heat is going to bounce off side ,top panels & just cover the XSX in more heat. Not surprised by over heating if its cabinet related.

Just want to add my 2 cents on "overheating Xbox" issue. It's possible it's just an glitch that happens in certain cases.
I saw a message similar to this in one of the reports and I've gotten the same similar message on my Xbox One X over the years and it never actually was overheating. For me it's happened a couple times randomly on occasion and recently during that demo fest they had one of the demo's in particular would cause the fans to freak out and end up with this message just from trying to launch the demo. They mentioned those demos were still a work in progress and might not even work. What I'm trying to say here is that it's possible especially on those prototype units with freshly released game builds/compatibility that some might have run into those errors. Not saying it's impossible that they're overheating, just throwing this out there.
No ifs or buts, that's overheating.
And those XBSX are Early Retails units as I don't see Prototype printed on them.
So people should stop with that.
If the stories are true, Microsoft can do a slight revision of the cooling with the second batch.

nope, no one made actual test, as far as I know, but some of the previewers said that it is not overheating re. Xbsex, also ms commented on this to some degree

It's unfortunate they can only give out information that's approved by Microsoft. They obviously are not going to talk about hardware issues if they are not allowed to.
With that said I guess it's just best to wait until the system releases to get the full story.

Have any of these influencers and journalists said anything bad about XSX yet? Just seems all a little suspiciously gushing praise and no critical analysis so far. Maybe it is all pure gravy goodness, but it is a little odd. Or maybe I've not watched the right videos. Even the silly 'hot running' stuff seemed to be based on a misinterpreted comment.

It's for battery longevity. Smartphone companies provide ultra high speed charging because they think that your phone is disposable within 2-3 years. Sony smartphones actually have slow-charging mode that I always use (5-6hours of slow charging), and my 3 years old cellphone could sometimes make 48h! But usually would do like 8-10 of heavy usage.

That's not what I said. I'm saying the XSX is a more powerful console in a much smaller format. I never said anything about games looking better... Xbox One X is also more powerful than the PS4 Pro, but TLOU2 is still better looking...

I don't really care what Dealer's friend of a friend's brother's maid said about the issue, only people with direct access to the units. Specifically if they had an issue, what orientation was the system in, how was it placed etc. People reported issues about the 1X and PS4 slim and pro, those turned out to be human error or just a few bad units, with all three performing fine after release. Context is everything.

Let's keep it real though, people are going to put these consoles where they have put the previous ones. So if they had no heat issues in the past and they do now, then something is off.
Could also be issues with application of thermal paste. Could be what RGT referred as well, incorrect fan profiles (which most likely can get addressed by a bios update)... or it could also be an engineering defect... any guess is valid at this point really.
I can say I'm not surprised by it being hot to touch, which doesn't necessarily equal thermal issues.

They probably signed an agreement to receive those systems. So essentially they will only show what Microsoft wants them to show.

If I remember correctly, Yong Yea said the NDA allowed them to talk about 5 things:
Performance, BC compatibility, quick resume, SSD speeds and controller.
As an aside it seems like MS will only let them talk about this stuff but not actually show it in detail... but I digress...
So yeah - operating temps and noise are not on the menu and nor would anyone expect them to be really from either MS or Sony. The purpose of this kind of marketing is to be positive - not list faults.
Yong Yea did specifically say his unit ran cool and pretty quiet in response to the heat rumours. He had his horizontal up on top of the cabinet with free airflow from all sides.

I dunno, we've been through this cycle many times now where the chorus of people saying they've dropped the ball is rising, then they do an info dump, and by impressions and conversations it just blows anything else out of the conversation for gaming for that week or more.
I think they just have a schedule and are going with sticking to it rather than responding to their competition. If Japanese youtubers got a hands on, you can probably imagine they'll do other markets after (and that Russian teardown ended up being real? Who knows who already has one under NDA).

I am disgusted with what Sony has done with their console, its an abomination.
With the ps5 being so cool, that means my fishtanks thermometers are going to have to stay on longer to combat the cool air that is circling around the room. Yep my electricity bill is going up just so you guys can have a cooler running product.

I‘ve decided that I can’t ever have a Ps5 next to a Series X. The Ps5 will be so freezing cold, and the Series X will be so incredibly hot, they will combine to create a mini weather system above my OLED tv that will dump rain right onto it.

Although I will stress that some people having issues with preproduction consoles doesn't mean the retail ones will suffer the same fate.
However anyone buying either of these two systems should give them adequate ventilation. If they don't then they can run into issues with both platforms.

MS wouldn’t send these out to people who would nitpick, criticise or complain. Neither would Sony.
MS has decided what may be disclosed and what may not, and have a legal agreement with influencers who would accept these limits on their output in order to get early access.
I’m sure Sony had similar agreements with the youtubers they invited to try out the PS5.
For Xsex, Specifically right now they can talk about Performance, BC compatibility, Quick resume, SSD operation and the controller.
That’s it - anything outside of those 5 topics is, strictly speaking, breaking the terms of the contract between MS and these marketers, influencers and content producers.
Presumably the NDA terms will change over time to allow them do or show more.
But for now, those NDA terms are why we haven’t seen much content despite these being in the hands of influencers for near 2 weeks.
I’m also gonna bet there are clauses in those contracts about not portraying either the product or MS in a negative light, at least until the NDA is up. That’s pretty standard stuff though.
I don’t really see much difference here in what Sony and MS are doing. Sony invited youtubers to their office to record themselves playing content and put it on YouTube, MS sent their Xsex consoles out to the youtubers instead.
There’s about the same level of control being exerted on these people in both cases.

That guy from Cnet, Jeff "Pinball Escobar" Bakalar, has a Series X and commented on how burningly hot and surprisingly 'toasty' the console + the storage card gets. Did he debunk it?
Could all be hearsay and or FUD from Ken Kutaragi, but at this point, too many people with the console are reporting on how hot it gets. Now whether that heat is abnormal and some RROD-like design flaw is up to debate because frankly, I wouldn't trust gameplay hosts/product cheerleaders to have extensive knowledge on thermodynamics. My unscientific guess is the console gets hot but doesn't require users to grab the fire extinguisher just in case.
I will say this though. It would be a remarkable twist if the Series S had no issues while the Series X had a bunch of them. A lot of people won't be psyched to spend $200 more to get an inferior console experience.

I’ve never cleaned mine - never hoovered it or even blown in it... I think the only thing I did was replace the HDD with a hybrid SSD/HDD hybrid drive not long after I first got it.
I left it horizontal on top of my cabinet next to my TV with the PSVR box resting on top of it and with my Wifi router to one side.
Seems crazy yours can be like that - it almost sounds like the fan is exhibiting “shaft rub” to make that high pitched whine.
Perhaps it can be replaced - the fan that is.
