Nintendo Conference By & Large a Success

The real surprise was that Nintendo is still pushing their current generation, they arent into rush releasing product. Now that Sony has released their specs and hardware design early, Nintendo is going to start finalising their own hardware. Nintendo will never hype a product till just before its release - thats means next year's E3.

What about Zelda? They hyped it far before its release.

I'm still assuming there'll be a Spaceworld, but the lack of any CG, prerendered footage, or real time gameplay was disastrous.

Prepare to get attacked.

I think it's clear to see they were focusing on DS, GBA and Gamecube... but even then, I'm sorry, it was a bad conference.

The DJ and Nintendogs segments were appauling. We've seen those things before - SO HAVE THE MEDIA. Can you even begin to imagine what they're going to write in their magazines having been treated to sensational glimpses of next-gen by Sony and Microsoft? I might not have been impressed particularly by either showing, but at least those guys showed something.... and Sony in particular is coming out on top (again).

Boasting that you're releasing four mario games is fucking stupid. The other games looked good, and truth be told there are many I'm interested in... but I knew about them ALL (barre Mario Soccer) already. WHERE IS THE NEWS? I find myself clinging onto hope that Brooke Burgess' recent posts mean something.... deep down I know they don't.

As for Revolution:

I truly think it boils down to Nintendo not being ready to show us stuff yet. It's good that theyre not rushing and showing us unfinished and potentially disappointing product --- but now I have serious questions about whether or not Nintendo can release alongside Sony like they intend to now. Hopefully the lack of specs means they were getting a sense of what their competition was doing before responding. I truly hope that's the case. I will accept a system that approximates at X360 power or perhaps even slightly lower - provided the price reflects that. After all, if the way games play on this thing really is so new, different and cool, graphics won't matter as much and the saving can be passed onto us. All of this online stuff sounds great.... but again we didn't really see much of that.

The show by and large was a success:
AT CREATING INDIFFERENCE.

I will concede that some of us may be overacting due to Johnny hype and all that other nonsense but to even remotely suggest that what they showed was success is simply obtuse. Nintendo would of done a better job to fire randomly into the audience with bing bag guns than what they presented. They should of followed the GC Zelda trailer with a Rev Zelda tech demo or something. Ending the conference the exact same way you did a year ago is idiotic and they deserve most of the criticism they are recieving right now.

Then again maybe we were just Nightrained.

LMFAO.

Winner of GAF 2005 "Damage Control" Award. Congratulations, plz come to the front to accept you reward.

I hate the overused phrase "damage control," but this is the epitome of it.

Now if only they still a generation to push. Harrison touted like 60 games coming for GameCube this year. That's, like, half of what Xbox is getting, and Microsoft is releasing a new system in six months. PS2, who even knows how many games they have coming? 200? More?

Nintendo really could have not had a conference and they would have made the same splash.

Can someone please link me to where I can download the conference in good quality? I simply do not have the time to go through hundreds of pages a day to keep up with this E3, damn having an exhausting job :(

Someone needs to photoshop a Johnny Nighttrain into one of the cancelled slots ...

Agreed.

Nintendo themselves said this wasn't the Revolution's coming out party. If the weatherman says it's going to rain, you can't blame him when you get wet.

Nintendo focused on this gen, and they were pretty successful. Their DS details sounded great, especially compared to the PSP No-show at Sony's conference. The Gamecube stuff SUCKED ASS, but Zelda almost made up for it.

IMO, Nintendo is ike the guy that ran away from the bully...
MS is the guy that got their ass whooped...
there's something to be said about knowing when to fold...

Loaded like a freight train
Flyin' like an aeroplane
Feelin' like a space brain
One more time tonight

Well I'm a west coast struttin'
One bad mother
Got a rattlesnake suitcase
Under my arm
Said I'm a mean machine
Been drinkin' gasoline
And honey you can make my motor hum
Well I got one chance left
In a nine live cat
I got a dog eat dog sly smile
I got a Molotov cocktail with a match to go
I smoke my cigarette with style
An I can tell you honey
You can make my money tonight

Wake up late honey put on your clothes
Take your credit card to the liquor store
That's one for you and two for me by tonight
I'll be loaded like a freight train
Flyin' like an aeroplane
Feelin' like a space brain
One more time tonight

I'm on the nightrain
Bottoms up
I'm on the nightrain
Fill my cup
I'm on the nightrain
Ready to crash and burn
I never learn
I'm on the nightrain
I love that stuff
I'm on the nightrain
I can never get enough
I'm on the nightrain
Never to return - no

Loaded like a freight train
Flyin' like an aeroplane
Speedin' like a space brain
One more time tonight

I'm on the nightrain
And I'm lookin' for some
I'm on the nightrain
So's I can leave this slum
I'm on the nightrain
And I'm ready to crash an' burn
Nightrain
Bottoms up
I'm on the nightrain
Fill my cup
I'm on the nightrain

Whoa yeah
I'm on the nightrain
Love that stuff
I'm on the nightrain
An I can never get enough
Ridin' the nightrain
I guess I
I guess, I guess, I guess I never learn

On the nightrain
Float me home
Ooh I'm on the nightrain
Ridin' the nightrain
Never to return
Nightrain

Disastrous for who? Fanboys looking to win a fucking ewar? All I know is Zelda (A game that I'll actually play this year) looks hot, the DS is finally getting some good games, and Nintendo is going to have by far the best looking system next gen. Thats fine for me I was afraid we wouldn't even get to see the system. I am pissed about not getting to see the controller though.

It was a fucking disaster.

How did stupid threads like 'OMG REV BC SCAM' shwo up? Some retards think they'll need to d/l gamecube games (rev PLAYS GCN disks and you'll only be able to d/l nes/snes/ and n64 games iirc). How did this happen? Nintend should've not made a big deal of this. It's just a cool option. THAT'S IT. not a revolution.

I couldn't think nintendo's conference be any worse than microsoft's. And nintendo did it. GOOD JOB.

PS3 is enough for me. xbox1.5 and nintendoEvolution will be decimated.

I like how many people are pissed because a few people(not Nintendo, as fas as i know) said certain things would be there and weren't.

That wailing and gnashing of a thousand fanboys is a sight to behold.

Nintendo's conference was boring, but it was because of the lack of information, surprises and tech demos. They really revealed almost nothing about Revolution. We could worry that they're holding back because they've got nothing to show, but we just won't know until they show it.

What's bad is the GameCube line up (in terms of breadth). Battallion Wars looked very cool to me, actually, as did Zelda of course, Fire Emblem, and maybe some Mario games, but otherwise it's going to be a slow year for GameCube. I was hoping for some surprises from them.

[edit] Oh, and Pokemon XD looked very cool to me, other than the awful main character design. It's not exactly a bleak lineup, but I always expect surprises at E3.

The Bay of Pigs invasion also went off without a hitch. Mostly.

Come on now Nintendo just killed whats left of their fanbase, what the hell are you talking about?

No they didn't. They spat us in the face and kicked us in the groin, but we will be back for more come spaceworld.

Again, what Spaceworld? Have they even held one since Celda in 2001?

Eh. All I really wanted was Mario 128. On the Gamecube. I also wanted Nintendo to show that they're still willing to support the 'Cube as well as the Gameboy Advance. Mario Baseball and Mario Strikers intrigue me, but the lineup didn't exactly blow me away.

Well, we got a new Gameboy Advance...but not too many new games. If Nintendo's gonna release another GBA, they had BETTER keep the support going for another 2+ years.

All in all, a good conference if you're a fan of the DS.

A bad conference if you're a fan of the GBA and GC.

And an almost non-existant one if you wanted to see the Rev.

Nighttrained! And Li Mu Baied!

I knew they were going to focus on GC & DS software, Reggie had restated this many times. (no Rev. coming out party) Though when the decision was made for it to be shown, I thought that Nintendo would exhibit at least a short montage of some games that internal studios are currently working on. (some footage does exist btw, though NOJ probably deemed it too early) Nope, no Mario 128, (as promised) no major defection, Mario whoring at a level unprecedented, & another Metroid for the GC in '06? Plans get restructured, & Nintendo is the king at this. Inside sources may tell you one thing, then Nintendo decides against its original plan of action. I know that the visuals won't disappoint, but we have to wait a whole year more. My main source was at NST for God's sake! Well at least LOZ didn't disappoint, I'm eating crow right now, & feeling quite sick.

Did you guys honestly believe that Nintendo, of all gaming companies, would follow suit with what Microsoft and Sony were doing? Nintendo isn’t good at following leads; they have a game plan – some call it flawed or archaic – and, as history has shown, they won’t deviate from it (whatever it is.). Sometimes I try to figure them out, and in each instance, I am left scratching my head.

The reassuring thing out of this E3 debacle is that it wasn’t Nintendo’s products that ended up as sheer disappointments, but the fact that they chose to not reveal them. Absence of proof of quality next-gen games is not proof of absence. We’re still a year removed from its inevitable launch, and to disregard them as dead on the basis of their less than inspiring presentation on an event staged a year before its official release is foolhardily. The same goes for the PS3, and to a lesser extent, the Xbox 360 which is set to be released in a few months.

Judging from past Nintendo consoles, I doubt the Revolution’s graphics and capabilities will be significantly underpowered in face of its competitors. None of the Nintendo consoles in the past were significantly less powerful than competitors in terms of graphics. I doubt, in light of years of unending speculation and ridicule by the media and game fans, that Nintendo will allow their competitors more room to snub and openly criticize them.

Forgive me, naysayers, but I’m still getting the Revolution and the PS3 both at launch (in my opinion, they make for the best combo). I’ll acquire the Xbox 360 at the time of Halo 3’s release.

Remember they didnt show the Gamecube at E3 2000, it was never shown till after the PS2 was released. Classic Nintendo - they see what the competition is doing first. Like I said now the PS3 specs are official they know what they need to do.

heh, a whole year. By then I'll be playing my import PS3 and enjoying TRUE next-gen.

The people who are pissed are people who wanted Nintendo to repeat Sony's conference, or were totally suckered by Nighttrain. Nintendo's conference won't generate too much hype, but their was nothing fatally wrong with it either. All of the conferences had their highs and lows.

Microsoft's was by far the worst. They put all their cards on the table and only came up with a small pair. The Xbox is now basically dead and the Xbox 360 will be branded as the Xbox 1.5 for a long, long time. This was more than just E3 for MS, it was the Xbox 1.5's unveiling, this will hurt.

Sony's conference was pure hype. Which is good for the PS3, but bad for the PS2 and PSP. Those two systems we're practiaclly ignored. I honestly don't understand why Sony choose the presentation they did. The PS2 may not need a boost, but the PSP does... and it needs it now. There is still plenty of time to hype the PS3, but time is running out on the PSP. Sony delievered a serious blow to MS in the console race, but hurt themselves in the handheld race.

Nintendo's conference was okay. Johnny got to me too (he has some explaining to do), but with 4 platforms to balance I wasn't expecting that much Revolution info either. Too much Nintendogs, but after its success in Japan I'm betting that they have some big plans for it worldwide. The DS stuff look great, as did the Gamecube stuff. Really, the only thing missing that I hoped would be there were some Rev teaser trailers, other than that it was fairly well balanced, with alot of information... just lacking hype. Nintendo really sucks at hype.

People claim that E3 doesn't really mean much, and they're right. 2003 was Nintendo's worst E3, but their best sales followed that year, 2004 was their best E3, but some of their worst sales followed. The next-gen is just beginning, there will be plenty of time for everybody to screw-up, dissappoint, and piss people off.
