Coupling was poor man's Friends, Game On was a better and earlier take on the concept.

The original Queer as Folk was RTD's best work, easily surpassing anything he's done with Doctor Who.

HOW DARE YOU, SIR? Coupling, unlike Friends, was ingenius. It's still one of my three favorite comedy series ever.

The fool tactic was the fact that it was *promoted* as "The British Friends", when it was miles away from that and entirely its own beast.

Basically, people are stupid. I mean, they like Britain's Got Talent.
At least much of today's crap telly stays in ITV.

BBC channels >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Channel 4's stuff >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> ITV's crap

Doctor Who alone beats the crap out of ITV, but Doctor Who is a very, very small portion of what I watch on BBC. The drama, the documentaries, the comedies/game shows, the news/current affairs stuff, all many magnitudes better than the likes of Britain's Got Talent.

Aaaaagreed. Now that ITV's 4 month barrage of shit (X Factor/Dancing On Ice) is over, it's the time of good TV. Doctor Who, Ashes to Ashes, You Have Been Watching, Have I Got News For You- good times.

I don't get that feeling. i miss the tenth doctor.

I felt the same way when Ninth bit the dust. And Fifth, watching the classic series.

I think it wouldn't be Doctor Who if you didn't feel bothered by the change in lead.

I hate that Doctor Who is sandwiched between Total Wipeout and Over the Rainbow... I have to jump into BBC at just the right time or I will get infected by the terrible

Well I'm all caught up now, just finished The End of Time. In my opinion the only one of the 2009 specials that was semi decent was The Waters of Mars. I really don't care for Simm's Master, and The End of Time really hammered home everything wrong with him. I really liked the last 20 minutes of it though, sappy and manipulative as it was.

Can't wait for Moffat's Doctor to get rolling tonight, and we can put the RTD nonsense behind us.

Don't forget about Doctor Who Confidential (7:25 on BBC Three)

Behind-the-scenes look at the making of Doctor Who, capturing all the backstage treats from Matt Smith's first action-packed episode and giving a real 'getting to know you' taster of life as The Doctor.

There's a Cribs-style tour of the TARDIS with Matt and production designer Edward Thomas, a glimpse of the episode 1 read-through and an insight into life on set as the nation's favourite Time Lord.

Narrated by Alex Price and featuring interviews with Matt Smith, Karen Gillan, Steven Moffat.

I enjoyed watching this more than the main show a few times over the last 4 years... (at least it wont have RTD saying "I am fantastic, this was great, I am great" this time round. I'd be happy with Moffat self praise though :p)

I caught the end of Over The Rainbow last week. Twenty girls dressed up in blue gingham is surprisingly hot.

The show is also worthwhile for all the Dorothy jokes you can make, mainly involving Graham Norton.

I love Confidential and, on the whole, I enjoy it more than Doctor Who proper.

Think my favorite episode might have been the one they did for "Blink," which had very little to do with Blink, but it was really cool (for me at least) to see Tennant and the other producers reminisce about the old series and its affect on their childhood.

Just opened a Cadbury's Cream Egg Easter Egg to nibble at during the show... I am always sad that the big Easter Egg is not an actual Cream Egg. That would be AMAZING

Liking this so far ...

It's got a slightly retro thing about it, reminds me of Tom Baker which I what I grew up on and was the King of Doctor Who's.

Oops. Forgot about this.

I'll be watching it on I-Player afterwards. My favourite doctor is still Eccleston though.

Best series opener and companion introduction since 'Rose'.

Smith is nicely different to Tennant but also similar.

Not sure how I feel about the new opening music/intro yet but everything else was fantastic. New TARDIS set looks absolutely wonderful in HD.

Amazing, I LOVE this. What I loved most was the fact that the way the Dr saved the way was explained - it wasnt just the fact that everyone was saying his name that saved him or something stupid like that.

new opening vid/Music and so forth sucked, everything else was AMAZING. At first I was like
Why the fuck arent her parents doing anything
but that was pretty much part of the act. I loved it.

Thought it was fantastic. Wasnt really watching towards the end of Tennants Doctor, but this was brilliant.

It's like they've finally got the balance between old and new right.

That literally felt like Day 1 for Doctor Who again.

Loved it.

New Doctor is great.
New Doctor assistant is great.
Acting from supporting actors seems to be much better.
Direction and cinematography are far more polished.
The humour seems more mature and less infantile compared to the typical RTD jokes.

The trailer at the end looks amazing.

Hey, it's good Doctor Who again! It's been so long.

Moffat isn't too subtle with his speeches "hey I dont need a sonic screw driver plot device!"
And he pulled a resolution that made some kind of sense! Thats even more impressive.

Also on cinmeatography - the lighting and camerawork seem much better then previously.

If anyone would like to gif the leg reveal scene, I think a lot of us would be grateful.
