Making fun of himself. :lol

What is that? 5 goals in 5 games already.

vs Argentina, MLS All Stars, Man U, Airtricity, and Chelsea. He's golden. His fuck ups are still goals. :lol

Did anyone watch Madrid-Galaxy? Getting serious Guti vibes from the Canales kid. Just hope he's more consistent than Guti ever was.

Canales has the difference to Guti that he is much more down to earth and calm already at this age. Guti never really became what he could have because of his attitude. I'm expecting big things from this lad.

Saw that, and hope it's not true, I really wanted him at United... fucking hell, but (if true) I suppose he always had his sights set on the big Spanish two anyway.

Agreed, its a loss imo... what'd worry me more if I was a villa fan is the prospect of Milner and Young leaving, Carew nearing the end of his contract / possibly looking for a late-in-the-career move... and wasn't there also a rumour or something that O Neill would quit if the club tried to sell Ashley Young? This has definitely gotta be cash / transfer related.

It was a story from Spanish press, so probabaly made up. But Justin Moorehouse from a local radio station has just said the deal for Oezil to come to United is done so BELIEVE.

Martin O'Neill has probably gone because of the Milner deal, if he had more transfer funds to create more depth in his sqaud he probabaly would have finished in the top four with Aston Villa

Hope not. Really want United to buy him. It doesn't make sense that they would given they don't have much money to spend and that moeny has been earmarked for Fabregas in 6-12 months time.

I read today in a few papers that negotiations between him and both Real and Barcelona had broken down as he couldn't be promised regular first team football.

Well this totally came out of nowhere.

I wonder where Mart will end up next. He's one of the best managers in the world.

Not sure where he will go. Celtic fans are probably hoping that he will going back to Parkhead but that isn't goint to happen. Maybe he is banking on one of Hodgson, Redknapp or Mancini getting fired mid-season.

there has to be more to the story, you don't quit a few days before the season starts and screw up all your work and your players in the off-season
Last time he suddenly quit a club was because his wife was ill, so lets hope it's not that again.

:o Surprised O'Neill's left, thought he'd at least have another go trying to break into the top four before Man City come steamrolling in. Then again, when the club's policy is to sell the best players, can't blame the decision too much.

Good, a player of his quality needs to be starting every game. Shame Khedira didn't get the memo.

I doubt that even the most teary-eyed nostalgia-stricken Tim is going to consider that Mart will "come home" to Celtic. They couldn't afford him at all.

He could take a page from Gordon Strachan's book and work with BBC Sport for a while.

If Capello goes before the end of his contract he could end up England manager, or taking over at a club from someone else who becomes England manager

I think the English FA burnt their bridges there by choosing McLaren over Mart in the first place. That was the mistake that led to the mess than the English team find themselves in now.

But yeah, Mart's a prime candidate for any high-profile job that becomes available.

Speaking of available jobs... who do you think will replace him at Villa?

Bob Bradley seems a fair bet, as would Jol. Apparently Lerner wanted Klinsmann in when he took over according to some Villa fans i know though.

If it does come out that it was all money related and Lerner was basically allowing sales of all the best players without putting the money back into the transfer kitty -- I think it may be surprisingly hard to find someone who wants to take his place! Is Sven still looking for work?

As usual a Football thread on gaf ignores the french championship

As usual, french clubs are going to knock out English, Spanish, Italian and German clubs out of the Champions League :D

Oh and bayern sucks, last year was a fluke.

You should have a look at 606. They were talking about the minute the news came through. :lol .

Well, the reason O'Neill left has been partially revealed. I mean, is it really a coincidence that he leaves on the same day his internationally recognised left-back jumps ship to the neighbours? I think not, after all Shorey was the lifeblood of Aston Villa, any manager worth his salt would be up in arms over his departure.

Some of my friends introduced me to Grenoble, but now that they're relegated I just don't give a fuck.

Chicharito/Rooney combo is gonna be siiiiiiiiiiick

Unfortunately, I agree... Although, these are really all pre-season games, so let's see what happens in games that actually matter.

Anyway, I can't wait for this weekend. *Can't wait*!

Same here. United needs a midfield more so than strikers. Ozil would have been perfect, with his youth and skill. The formation would have to be changed, but who cares?

Ozil must come to United.

How do you think I feel? Even though the calibre of football on display in Scotland may not be the best in the world, you'll be hard pressed to find a better game than the Old Firm derby.

Then Celtic are in deeper shit than I thought. Neil Lennon has "John Barnes 2.0" written all over him.

Second this.

Also, can't wait to see Chicharito in action again.

1st round A-league results:

Gold Coast 0 v Brisbane 0
Sydney 3 v Melbourne 3
Perth 3 v North Queensland 3
Adelaide 0 v Newcastle 0
Melbourne Heart 0 v Central Coast 1

Robbie Fowler did not score for Perth but pulled in one of Perth's largest crowd attendances - 16k!
Michael Bridges (formerly of Leeds) was captain and good for Newcastle.
New team Melbourne Heart were good but could not finish chances.
Tomas Broich (formerly of FC Nuremberg) was the best of the imports. “It wasn’t too tough ... there were some nice tackles made but that’s the Australian style,” Broich joked.
Mate Dugandzic was the player of the round in my opinion. 20 year old from Melbourne Victory was a standout player in his match and Aussies need to cap him as he is eligible to play for Croatia (been on the books of Dinamo Zagreb as well).

I would LOVE Bradley, Klinsmann would also be great if we could get him. Bummer to lose O'Neill but he had a good run, a change is no bad thing. Also as money is looking tight we might bring in some younger players which I am happy to see.

Villa is off to an entertaining season already :)

p.s. absolutely NO Graham Taylor please.

Good first round all in all...with the standout match being sydney vs. melb.

Also nice to see 11k turn up for Melbourne Hearts first match

The weird thing about Scottish football over the last 5 years has been watching Rangers and Celtic deteriorate towards the level of the competition. It's fucked.

Good news for you (shit for me) is that Rangers have lost all their top players over the break. This season will still be competitive. Both teams are as shit as each other.

What can you expect when you play teams like Kilmarnock 4 times a year. Bring in a 16 or 18 team league and only play twice against the other teams, start the season in March, etc etc...

Huh? I'm confused. Did you see my earlier post in this thread?
