I read today in a few papers that negotiations between him and both Real and Barcelona had broken down as he couldn't be promised regular first team football.
How long ago was this?

That makes perfect sense, but just last night the Barça media was reporting that Ozil is close to signing.

In Spanish: http://sport.es/default.asp?idpublicacio_PK=44&idioma=CAS&idnoticia_PK=723637&idseccio_PK=803

The negotiations, being carried out in the strictest discretion, seem to have come to fruition and the long-awaited arrival of a midfielder could be realized in Mesut Ozil.

[edit] Oh, and I'm not familiar with sport.es so it's very possible that they're just full of complete shit. "seem to have", "could be" and other qualifiers are littered all over the article.

More from Xavi on the Fabregas transfer saga: http://www.imscouting.com/global-ne...Arsenal-are-out-of-title-race-says-Xavi/9425/
"We've given up on the idea of him arriving now, but maybe he'll come in January when Arsenal are out of the Premier League title race," he was quoted as saying by Tuttomercato. "Their team are just not competitive."

"Arsenal are wrong to have forced him to remain there, they can't just hold him against his will," added the Barcelona vice captain.
The cheek of it!

Holy shit, I'd love to see Arsenal play Barca in the champions league just for this.

Is there a GAF fantasy football league yet? There was one last year which had about 10 people in it but hopefully we can do better this time.

If it was Guardiola coming out and speaking like this, it wouldn't bother me. But who the frag do Xavi, Puyol (and all the others who have spoken out) think they are?

Barca as a whole have acted disgracefully over Fabregas.

Many teams would have been reprimanded by UEFA/FIFA for going on like they have but they are the darling child of football atm. It'll all come crashing down soon with their debts and it will be glorious.

It's quite unbelievable really. Blatant tapping-up from every level at Barca.

lol. Sorry man, I didn't see that post.

I should've known from the Holland flag in your avatar!

In all fairness that's because my granddad is Dutch, and they're my second team after Scotland.

But he was the one who bought me my first football strip when I was 3 years old: the Rangers 1988/1989 home strip and got me interested in football.

It was yesterday mornings papers I had read it in. It's a shame if he goes to Barcelona, he won't be guaranteed game time, and they'll more than likely get Cesc next year too which again adds considerably to the immense competition for a place at Barcelona.

:lol Now y'all know what we faced with Real Madrid and Cristiano for years and years... It is fucking annoying, but you eventually get tired of it, and Cesc will eventually leave next summer. Just hope you Gunner supporters get a decent fee for him.

We don't need to sell so will take a high price for them to get him. I personally think he will definitely leave next summer regardless of any trophies we might win this season.

He's under contract till 2015, our finnancial situation is pretty good - last announcement for 6 month period was profit of £35.2m while still paying off £130m from the stadium. Compare this to Barca's and we can hold out for as higher price as possible.

I've just set up some Fantasy Football on the Metro website...

http://fantasyfootball.metro.co.uk

Mini-Leagues:

NeoGAF 1 (PM me for PIN)
£5.50 entry, £5 goes into the pot, 50p goes to the site. Various payment options offered via ClickAndBuy, the site manages the pot and pays out at the end of the season.

NeoGAF 2 (PM me for PIN)
Free entry, just for fun.

You can create a team and enter it into both leagues if you so choose. Sign up on the site, create your team and when you're ready to enter it - PM me with your intended team name for access to the PINs. Then go to the Mini-Leagues tab on the website and click "join team". It should be fairly self explanatory from there.

A word of warning though - they use ClickandBuy for payments, I advise you sign up at http://www.clickandbuy.com first before attempting to join the paid league. Reason being: if you use a credit card to pay it will ask you to verify your card before pushing the transaction through... If you don't have an online facility to see pending transactions on your card immediately, then you're not going to be able to complete verification, pay and play immediately. I had that facility so I was ok, but if you're not sure you do - join and verify your card at http://www.clickandbuy.com first.

Additional competitions you can enter your team into

By using the Metro site you can enter your team in as many mini-leagues or tournaments as you like. You could enter one of the site's main tournaments that run for either remainder of the season or the next four weeks, or you can pay £1 on an ad-hoc basis to enter a weekly "5 a side" competition.

Possible bonus payouts

If either league has 5 or more teams join before this Saturday (14 August) the winner will be entered into a draw to win an additional £1000. There is also another draw IIRC with no such team entry requirement -- and the winner of the league could win an additional £250.

Should I make a separate thread for this?

Is there many people signed up to either yet? I'm all set-up on the fantasy.premierleague.com fantasy football but if there's enough people I might consider joining that league too.

No one as yet, one player in neogaf 2 (free).. is the official prem league one good?

Just started a league on the official Premiership site - should I start a thread or just post the details here?

http://fantasy.premierleague.com/

I created a team on there the other day, was hoping someone would set up a league. How do I put my team in the gaf league. I'd make an official thread of it personally, stops it intruding into actual football talk.

Ok, I'll start a thread. http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=403665

You just login, go to 'Leagues' and type in the code I give you. PM me for the code.

I'm a noob at this so I'm just feeling my way around.

Mexican initial squad for tomorrow's friendly versus Spain:

----------------------------Ochoa-----------------------------

Juárez---------Maza----------------Moreno------------Salcido

-------------------Márquez------Torrado-----------------------

G. Dos Santos----------------------------------------------------Guardado

-----------------Chicharito---------Vela--------------------------

...this should have been the squad that started the World Cup. Fuck.

P.S. I predict Mexico loses 3-1. Maybe 3-2 if we're lucky. I just hope we lose because any other result will get to the federation and the media's heads and they'll start being stupid again.

Fuckin Aguirre. Would like to see Barrera play as well.

Scotland:

Allan McGregor (GK), Kirk Broadfoot, Garry Kenneth, Christophe Berra, Lee Wallace, Barry Robson, Darren Fletcher (C), Kevin Thomson, Charlie Adam, James McFadden, Steven Fletcher

Sweden:

Andreas Isaksson (GK), Mikael Lustig, Olof Mellberg, Daniel Majstorovic, Behrang Safari, Anders Svensson, Pontus Wernbloom, Johan Elmander, Ola Toivonen, Emir Bajrami, Zlatan Ibrahimovic (C)

It'll be on at 2am (Taiwan time) so I may stay up for it. Probably not. Meaningless friendly is meaningless.

I hope we win. I think that would be the first time a national team beats two world champions in the same year (if you remember we beat Italy 2-1 just *before* the WC... yeah friendlies, but what the hell :lol ).

I don't really follow Mexican football but what I have seen from the national squad I always liked Ochoa. Why didn't he play at the world cup?

Also I was really impressed by Barrera during the World Cup, maybe they should try put him instead of Guardado and switch sides with Dos Santos.

You mean the Italy that couldn't get past Group 1 and tied with fuckin' New Zealand?

I mean, we beat France, dude. They were World Champions once!

Cause Aguirre's a prick.

There have been rumours that he had some family issues (apparently he got a girl knocked up), and that affected his performance during training. Cannot confirm though.

Mesut Ozil profile on the Man Utd website.

This is going to be a huge disappointment when he goes elsewhere.

That's a glitch on the website. Everytime we're linked with someone, a profile is created. If you do some tinkering you can make Casillas, Sneijder, Balotelli and Khedira come up as well.

Personally I don't think Fergie's that interested in him and he's not that interested in us. I could be wrong though.

England line-up : Hart, G Johnson, Terry, Jagielka, A Cole, Barry, Lampard, Gerrard, Walcott, A Johnson, Rooney.

I know it's shocking, but we may have to consider the possiblity that Capello's not going with the 4-4-2 :o

The game between Mexico vs Spain is a dream come true for the thousands of Spaniards living in Mexico for decades now. Wonder how many will make the trip to Mexico city to see them play.

I know Spaniards in D.F. who haven't gone to a football match since the 1986 World Cup. They are all excited about this match. Which looks like it's going to be a boring match. Is it true the Barça players are only gonna play 15 minutes?
