Sources: Campbell demoted, Colt Brennan to start against Giants Week 15

By Adam Schefter
ESPN Special to GAF

Washington, DC. -- The Washington Redskins have benched starting quarterback Jason Campbell and replaced him with second-year pro Colt Brennan, who takes over following a period of the worst offensive performances in team history.

Coach LiveWire made the change Friday, two days after the Redskins fell to 5-7-1 while gaining just 203 yards of offense in a 21-0 loss to the Oakland Raiders. Campbell completed 10 of 22 passes for 96 yards and two interceptions.

The Redskins entered the game averaging 354.8 total yards and 18.8 points per game.

"I wasn't surprised because I felt like Jason had done a shitty job and that it was yet another one of those days where nothing went right," Brennan said. "But had I been the quarterback, I know I would have thrown for 3 TDs and 300 yards. OK, maybe not, but I can't do much worse than that assclown, right?"

Brennan, who was inactive for all 16 games as a rookie, has not yet played an NFL down.

Coach LiveWire said he was not blaming the loss on Campbell, but felt Brennan earned a chance to start Sunday in Washington against the Giants. He then recanted his comments and blamed all of the teams' losses on Campbell, particularly the last 3 game stretch, in which the Redskins have given up 100 points and scored only 21 (7 of which came from a defensive TD). The 2005 first-round draft pick out of Auburn threw 1 touchdown and 10 interceptions in that period.

"I hate to make this about Jason," LiveWire said, adding that the rest of the team played pretty well against their last few opponents, given the circumstances. "But when you throw 10 interceptions in 3 games.....C'mon, man."

"I don't want us as an organization to say that game was all Campbell ... but, it really was," the disappointed coach said.

Campbell drops to third on the depth chart behind veteran Todd Collins.

The fifth-year pro, won the No. 1 job in 2006, inheriting the job from journeyman QB Mark Brunell. Following Sunday's game he was asked if thought he would retain the starting role.

"Well, you know, ummm, we have to just execute and keep working together. By working together, I think, you know, we can continue to grow and, ummm, build and execute better, you know. Then, you know, we'll be able to execute our gameplan better and keep working, umm, until we get better." Campbell said.

"Do I want to remain the starting quarterback of the team? Well, you know, Gosh darn it, yeah. I feel as though I can still win football games, you know? But, ummm, we'll see what happens."

LiveWire decided to make a change after reviewing tape of Wednesday's game, citing Campbell's horrible accuracy as one of the reasons.

"He provides us with more options, like passing for touchdowns," LiveWire said of Brennan, who the Redskins drafted out of Hawaii, where he set the NCAA Football Division 1 record for most passing touchdowns in a season with 58, as well as highest pass completion percentage (70.4%) and passing efficiency with a 186.0 rating.

"He gives you the dynamic that you all know about," with his ability to actually pass the ball, the coach added. "He creates a better chance to complete a pass and even throw multiple touchdowns in one game."

In each of its three losses, the Redskins have fallen behind and been forced away from what they do best, which is run the ball.

"We've still got to establish the run," LiveWire said, stressing that Brennan will need a solid rushing attack to help create opportunities in opposing defenses' secondaries. "That's where it's got to start. But let's be honest, no one respects our pass anymore thanks to Lionel Richie, Jr. over there."

The new starter said he's ready for the opportunity.

"It's not just about me turning this thing around," Brennan said. "Well, OK, it is."

Since this great post got stuck as the last post on the previous page, here we go. :lol

I joined for Erin Brockovich discussion
Meh, don't feel too bad. I benched Brady in my game against Sable's Aint's team, after he threw, I believe, 3 consecutive Pick 6's. Orton actually got me back into the game...

Still lost by 20 some odd points.

When this week advancing? I want to get my game in with fiddy! :D

But keep your defensive players away from cutler! I saw a potentially bad future when cutler went out for a series against the Rams. My backup QB Caleb Hanie is rated 45 and I don't like that!

:lol EA downgrading three players that didn't play on Sunday, one of whom has been the only bright spot on offense. GG Donny. This is why franchise is better!

Indeed I am. Are we allowed postseason trades prior to the free agency/draft period?
I think it would make sense to allow them after free agency and before the draft?

The fucked up thing is that we'll never see these kind of ratings leaps in online franchise, progression-wise
The speed ones and the ones for veterans for sure. CJ is stuck at this rating forever. :'(

Well, Campbell is scheduled to hit the FA market, but if there's trade value....
There may be some depending on my progression in the off-season. I'm almost certain I'll get rid of JRuss, but whether I get a QB in the draft or not depends on how my other needs progress. :\

i just downloaded the script to show team stats and i am the #1 rush defense in the league! suck it down losers!

p.s. probably because i'm the #32 rated pass defense :(

Ok, so I advanced that fake franchise and the standings were borked. :(

There were four teams tied and the team that is supposed to be the FIRST to be eliminated in the tie breakers actually proceeded to the playoffs. Imagine if a team that's not even supposed to be in wins it all or if a good player is shafted because EA doesn't know what the NFL tiebreakers are.

The only solution would be if we break down all the teams that could be tied on the last week, apply the tie breakers and the team that would win out (if everyone was tied) plays their week 17 game first. Then, if they win, the rest of the teams forfeit the last game. If they lose, then the next highest ranking team plays their game and the rest wait.

[edit] Oh wait, that wouldn't work in the case of two tied teams being in the same division. :( We're screwed!

Has EA even acknowledged this problem?

Also, I would love to restart so that I could have a decent 3rd WR, one that actually knows how to catch a wide open pass.

I need Trotter :(

You assholes. We're not restarting! You're missing something? Draft it or pick up a FA! If you want a league that depends on updated rosters, then let's go LeagueDaddy!

My team would improve on defense, though...

Not that I've seen. Whenever that question is posed, it's ignored and when a thread is made about it on OS, it's locked.

Ian is in an OS league IIRC. You'd think the problem would come up...

EA doesn't even need to "fix" the playoff problem, they just need to allow the commish to have full control over the playoff seeding (kind of like NBA 2k does).

i hate you EA!

GG man. My playoffs hopes are still alive. I kind of feel like I had no business winning that game because it felt like you were in control all game long. Thankfully, Garrard's 4th qtr magic continued.

For some reason MJD has become really fumble prone my last few games. I think he fumbled 4 times in that one (but I think 1 was overturned), and Garrard's streak of 1st qtr INTs is still going strong.

I just realized my next game against the Colts would be for the division lead if EA had the tie-breakers right.

Alright, since I was advancing the fake league to see the standings, I figured I might as well sim it all the way to the off-season.

Here's what you get (sorry for the cell pic!):

fd55hv.jpg

-Draft board includes every player in the draft with every rating they have. There are no surprises and it's there for everyone as soon as the SB is over.

-All injuries seem to disappear after the SB.

-There is no probowl

-All history of the previous season is erased including stats. The only evidence left to show that the season even existed is the "SuperBowl History" thing on the website which just includes the two teams and the score.

-You are not shown progress like in offline franchise. You have to know your guys by heart. Fortunately, I do and I can tell you some of us are gonna be pissed at the bullshit upgrades/downgrades. For example, DHB got a 1 point upgrade as my second leading receiver, Coles got a 6 point downgrade and 8 point speed downgrade for leading my team in catches, Schilens got an 8 point upgrade for 8 catches, Nnamdi Asomugha was downgraded, Janikowski was downgraded for a 15/15 season, Johnson was downgraded with 10 interceptions and 5 TDs, Higgins stayed the same despite 10 rec TDs and 3 return TDs and his speed was downgraded by 4 points, etc

So now we move to the draft:

243lxqa.jpg

I got a cap of the website, but deleted it by accident. :( It's pretty decent and contains a list of players, draft order, and a ticker.

Console also has a chat:
2nhgmtt.jpg

The website users are also allowed to participate in the chat via text.

-The commissioner can start and pause the draft at any point with the ability to set the time between picks to 15, 35, 45, and 60 seconds I believe.

-The commish can also start/stop the draft from the web, BUT when he does, the draft time is set back to 15 seconds and he can't change it from the web.

-CPU/absentee picks are chosen in 3 seconds

-There is no recap of the draft or draft grades like in offline. The only way to know who was picked is to have the website open the whole time and copying the draft log. If the person backs off the page, it disappears.

-Players are automatically taken off your roster to make room for the ones you drafted. 7 are taken even if you have open spots. It seems to be the lowest rated players, but I'm not certain. It would be in your best interest to make a list of your 7 lowest players and claim the ones you want to keep so they don't get scooped up in FA if you want them. One of my current lowest rated guys, for example, is my best KR.

There is a minimum players requirement, but it's not as strict as the offline franchise one:

116um83.jpg

And, finally, the infamous Tim Tribow:

Round 4, Pick 10
selection:Jacksonville Jaguars (Birdman1702) drafts QB Tim Tribow

The draft isn't the same as my offline franchise draft and the online one seems way less balanced and not nearly as deep. What I hear is that there are a few different drafts and the one you get is random, but this one was pretty crappy IMO.

Thanks a lot Rors. That's not great news, but it's what we've got to deal with. I'm expecting a shitload of ratings regression-related bitching

You that scared of Brennan eh? :D

No problem. I finally got around to starting Mass Effect so I'll probably be parked in front of my computer for the rest of the weekend. You headed to the game against Oakland?

The streak continues!
He scores a TD to take the lead with like 6 minutes left in the game. Then Johnson breaks a long TD score...I'm back up by 3. Story gets the ball back with 5 minutes left and has a nice clock-eating drive. 30 seconds left in the game, he has 2 timeouts and it's like 3rd-2 on his 20ish yard line. Instead of a run play to pick up the 1st, he threw a pick in the endzone to seal a Titans' victory. Tough break, but a hell of a game.

Luke and Birdman, this division isn't over yet!
