Overwatch |OT| My Onlywatch Has Ended

You're god damn right.

Launching the game without a competitive mode was a massive mistake. Pub games are infuriating. I lost my fucking mind when someone played widowmaker for the entire fucking match on the indoor Nepal.

Which brings me to a major problem Blizzard made: the "no sniper," "no builder," and Symettra support labels. The game is literally telling people to play characters that are often a detriment to the team, when the presumable point of those labels are to put together good teams.

It's mostly to avoid situations like the one you described rather than actually telling you what the most optimal team is for every conceivable situation.

Most of the teams I've played with on ps4 have been decent at least, some have been really good. Although there are definitely occasions where I'll still get what you described above.

I can't vouch for the PS4 community, but if you had fun with beta, and you're looking for more, I would get the game. I've played around 55 matches, and only 2 or 3 were like the example on my post. But alas, I don't know how the console randoms are faring, so you should probably get some friends to play with, just in case.

Buy the PS4 version, add yourself to the Google Doc in the OP and play with fellow Gaffers. Most of my games played where with people from Gaf who communicate and play the game correctly.

This is slightly encouraging. I did wonder whether the casual/non-players would just phase out once the actual game was out. I'll probably get it next week, it's just those moments where you're floundering without a hope are so frustrating. I don't mind losing as a team but losing as some sort of overworked plate-juggler just saps the fun right out the game.

Fun is for children I play video games for the glory.

I've been maining Symmetra since the game released and hoping to get that achievement for teleporting 20 players in one match. Last night I got 19 once. :-/

I've seen a lot of people walk right by the teleporter in the spawn room and take the scenic route. *sigh*

When my team really sucks and there's no hope, I just take that chance to fuck around and practice with a character I don't normally use.

LiQuid!

I proudly and openly admit to wishing death upon the mothers of people I don't like
Maybe it makes you feel better that I don't have the skin either, because I did not preorder. We'll survive. It's not THAT cool anyway

It's for a hero I literally never play too. None of this is important or helpful information. I want thing god damn it.

I know that feel, bro :(
But I've been having a lot of fun and those rare uncooperative matches are so uncommon they're not enough to single-handidly bring the whole experience down.

Also, when I'm playing with or against Tracer and she says the "Ever get that feeling of Deja Vu" line I just can't help but laugh. Her british accent is just so cartoonishly overstated haha.

If you're playing a hero with high mobility, it sometimes makes sense not to waste a teleporter use on yourself for the benefit of your slower teammates.

It seems like a TON of my capture point games get to 99% and then we lose control/go into overtime. It's like they've designed the gamemode for this to happen somehow. Really bizarre. Even both teams will get to 99% quite often.
If this is intentional, I wonder why this happens

Not telling you the optimal team comp is fine, but the game acts like it is warning you that you shouldn't play without a sniper, builder, or support, regardless of the rest of the team comp and regardless of the map design. More often than not, the game is warning you that you did not pick a bad team, and suggesting maybe you should. You could have a well rounded team and the game would suggest you drop your Mercy for Symettra so you can cover the builder and support.

Blizzard just put in a terrible version of MOBA lane roles. They should just dump it entirely.

Just played a game with a D. Va who launched her Mech into the air, down the pathway to Anubis B and got a triple kill. Then I felt guilty because I got play of the game for an easy-mode High Noon triple kill. I gave her a commendation out of deference.

That feel when you never get majority vote as MVP even though you've been the main contributer to your team winning.

I had a match where I absorbed almost 30000 damage as Reinhardt and got 10 objective kills. Most commendations went to a Lucio who healed for 6000 damage and got 12 kills. I gave up on commendations after that point.

theres an achievement for getting 21 in a row or something like that

You just need to get 21 total cards, not in a row. I assume you don't have to win the vote either, because I already have it, and I know that "MVP" is just a cancer term for "don't vote for that asshole."

If this is intentional, I wonder why this happens

Because if someone just touches the point, it goes into overtime for several seconds, even if they die immediately. I don't know if it's intentional, but it's really generous and gives ample opportunity for teams to make a comeback and games to be close.

Man, I'm not easily annoyed, but just had a series of attack & defend matches with the same randoms, I don't even... I understand people not changing hero according to the situation, maybe they're still inexperienced or they only feel comfortable playing the same one, like I get that, or even the assholes that choose 3 snipers, they don't really care for the team and they're going for the kill count glory, but I see why someone would do that. What completely boggles my mind is we're supposed to escort the payload, and they just go on ahead, like if it was a war of attrition while completely forgetting the objective. Can't you see what you're suppossed to do on the top of the screen or the bright red/blue icon telling you what to do?! As someone who mostly plays Support/Defense and heavily depending on the team to complete the objective it's just soooo frustrating, especially when I politely mention that on the chat and don't even get a response. Atleast we won the two defenses because I played my ass off. Didn't even get a thanks. Bah, sorry for the rant.

Anyway, I bought this game without really knowing a lot about it, never watched any videos other than the GB Quick Look or tried the beta out, mostly been searching for a casual online experience and the keyword mostly associated with this game is "fun", and I'm really really enjoying it. Even the matches like I mentioned above very rarely happen, so far most randoms play the objective which happily surprised me.

It's fairly easy to spot when a team is going to be bad.

Three people choose Hanzo/Genji/McCree/Tracer/Soldier 76 right as the menu pops.

I just quit out of these games because the only teamplayers will be support/defense/tank. No point trying to wrestle a 3v6.

Do you actually get anything by doing achievements? Or do they just exist to track progress/bragging rights? Not that there's anything inherently wrong with that, just curious...

And for PC players, have you been using the Dolby Atmos option? Do you notice any improvement?

Do you incur any penalty for leaving on the character select screen before the match starts? But tbh, even if I get a bad team and I'm just here to play casually, they don't bother me that much (most of the time).

I'm actually fuming over this

Blizz customer service wants me to call Taco Bell to complain that my free copy of Overwatch that I redeemed a week before their game launched didn't come with a preorder exclusive skin...

You're fuming because you WON a copy of the game and it didn't come with a skin? That is the most ridiculous thing I've heard in a long time. Maybe you should be thankful you didn't have to pay for the game?

I think it was the right decision. This way people learn to play the game first before jumping into ranked/competitive.
Also it seems blizzard was really unhappy with how the competitive mode was done. I rather have it in a month than patch after patch after patch until they fix it. >>

The achievements/trophies unlock some in game stuff like sprays I think

Well, to be fair, it'll likely only apply to 5 people on your team, so the last person can just use whoever and balance out the team properly that way, but I don't really know much about good team compositions, so maybe I'm full of shit.

Better yet when you're on defense and the team is 2 tracers, 2 genji's and 2 snipers

Just tags so far for achievements. And I am using a cheapo Bluetooth shelf speaker so I wouldn't notice any sound improvement if there was any

Before last night I thought Lucio was going to be my favorite support but then, on a whim, I tried out Zenyatta.....

WOW! What a cool character. So much more involved than Lucio, much more difficult to get right but when you do, awesome things happen. Judging who gets what orb and when and then trying to stay alive as a low mobility 150hp character is pretty darn challenging. But then you get a debuff and enough damage to shred most enemies and a really, really powerful ult.

Big downsides, huge upsides, requires thought and careful use but is rewarding as all heck to get right. Now that's the mark of great design!

Someone else did more

Naw, not when Im getting all gold medals in objective time, objective kills, damage done, and eliminations, am almost always pushing the payload with no one else, and am providing a ton of blocked damage as Zarya.

I had a match where I absorbed almost 30000 damage as Reinhardt and got 10 objective kills. Most commendations went to a Lucio who healed for 6000 damage and got 12 kills. I gave up on commendations after that point.

I dont mind when supports get majority MVP votes because so few people play them, so a good support is always appreciated to me, even if I or someone else did more. It's when a widow/bastion/some offensive player that is just racking up kills away from the objective and gets PotG gets majority MVP that irks me.

Tip for Mei players: Use her ice wall like a smoke grenade to hide you and your team's movements. It can let you get behind the enemy team and do some really nasty stuff. You can move your whole team in, or just go around on your own and pick off stragglers in the back of their base.
