What the fuck is it with these people and refrigerators? Like, I kind of get the reasoning behind the smartphone as a luxury but they seriously rate "refrigerator" as something noteworthy to own without any irony?

You look at poverty locally (in the national sense) and they look at it worldwide. (Without having access to statistics of worldwide refrigerator access, I'm going out on a limb and saying it isn't ~99% worldwide. Clean water access isn't even that high.)

touché ... Though this was before I was born.

I honestly thought you were taking the piss. Shoulda played it off. ;)

The article I read said they were exempt from all EPA regulations, as related to the strict regulation on coal and coal industries and cleanliness and so forth. But they were still under state and local regulations, hence the old inspection.

I must have misread something somewhere if the article you read is correct.

No, I think you're right. It was just the EPA they were exempt from.

But still, the point stands. FI should have done the bare minimum required of them and they couldn't even do that.

Sorry if old. If not, well, you're welcome.

Wait, that's a REAL ad? Swear to god, I honestly thought that was a parody.

So for the first time today I had that "Professor fails entire class to teach about Obama's socialism" story pop up on my Facebook feed. I thought for sure it was going to be my raging tea partier friend, but it turned out to be from a nice girl that hadn't ever given any indication of believing stupid things before. Should I hold out hope she was posting it sarcastically? :(

I'm sorry, but one of your friends is secretly........a Republican.

Finally, some god damn sense

WASHINGTON — Sen. Bob Corker has proposed the idea of scheduling a vote on Iran sanctions six months from now, after the interim nuclear agreement has run its course, instead of voting on sanctions right now.

Corker said Thursday that he had suggested the idea to Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid during a closed-door briefing for senators by lead Iran negotiator Wendy Sherman on the implementation agreement with Iran that is due to kick in on Jan. 20, the text of which was released to Congress today. The Senate is mulling a new sanctions bill introduced by Sens. Mark Kirk and Bob Menendez that is currently stalled pending a vote scheduled by Reid.

“One of the things I posed to the leader was look, why don’t we schedule a vote for July the 21st, that’s six months after the implementation date and if they haven’t reached an agreement that we believe is satisfactory, let’s implement on that day,” Corker, the ranking member of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, told reporters after the briefing.

Now the narrative can be "six months have passed and the agreement has failed [even if it hasn't, we're just all going to band together and say that by overreacting]."

Fantastic.

If properly regulated I don't see the problem with letting people smoke some green (and I don't even smoke). I'd argue we've done more damage to ourselves by the amount of fucking pills that are shoved in our faces all the time. We are such a medicated nation and the Government has basically enabled it for YEARS, giving heavy bias towards big pharma so they can get you hooked and charge you more for it, even...

Chris Rock always said it best: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RRN3d5S_MTk

Seriously, legalize weed.

New York also "is seeing an increase in call volume as we approach today's deadline," said Danielle Hollihan, deputy director of New York State of Health, referring to the Jan. 15 cut-off for coverage beginning Feb. 1. New York has been enrolling about 7,000 people per day in private plans and Medicaid in January, she said, compared with a total of about 230,000 from Oct. 1 through late December.

California, whose 500,000 private-plan enrollments through December lead all states, has not released January numbers, but said it continued "to see a tremendous amount of interest."

California getting its shit together early has really helped the law overall. Imagine if Texas wasn't run by nihilists.

Wow @ 20 subpoenas. Is that common? How many subpoenas were issued during Blagojevich's investigation?

There was a Bedford case where about 16 were served last year. I'm more shocked at where all of them are going, I expected his staff but also his reelection campaign got them. That's surprising.

Tom Coburn is resigning at the end of this congressional term.

Here's hoping he's replaced by someone like Tom Cole instead of that theocrat Lankford.

It just seems like politics never really gets anywhere.

I guess it just takes long periods of time. Tax cuts, abortion, and guns. It is like nothing has changed in 30 years. Well, I guess things have changed a bit on gays (significantly) and pot (slightly).

On the bright side, Obama did get reelected on the platform of raising taxes for the rich, implementing a form of universal healthcare, and support gay equality. The electorate is heading in the right direction I hope.

Someone slipped Harry some special brownies. As a casual pot smoker, I'm really hoping that the legalization movement will soon take off as rapidly as gay marriage has in the past few years. Although I'm sure Indiana will be among the last states to legalize it willingly. But I've been planning on leaving this shithole of a state as soon as I get my degree and moving in with my aunt in Denver til I find a job for years now anyway, so oh well.

Eh, I think putting some arbitrary deadline on negotiations is still pretty stupid, but it is a significant improvement over killing them immediately.

Sucks about Coburn, I hope he gets better. Always found it weird that him and his wife are apparently good friends with Obama and Michelle.

You could get a more "moderate" Republican in there I suppose but it when it comes to the votes that really count they'll fall in line.

They always do
I was referring more to the fact his health possibly sucks.

I'm not one to say their politics are off limits. Coburn has done and supported some appalling legislation but I still wish him and his family well.

Senator Tom Coburn (R-OK) has announced he's leaving at the end of the year. Don't know if that means anything to anyone.
It probably means Senator James Lankford. Sickening to think about.

Not only that, but my congressional district will have to replace Lankford, and the odds of it being somebody who's not batshit insane are low.

I dont get the need for these.

Why not just pull all of Christies calls and texts and emails from the NSA server?

If he has nothing to hide, he shouldnt worry.

Hah. I wonder what happened in that drug dealer's case who asked for the NSA phone records to exonerate him. It got some traction a while back, then it disappeared.
