How dare you insinuate that Hillary Clinton would be some type of carpetbagger.
/s :p

Actually, we could use Hillary's efficiency here. I'm saddened by the way our state has gone. I'm originally from VERY northern Wisconsin and the Upper Peninsula of Michigan (Dad was in WI, mom was in MI) and they've both gone crazypants.

Fun fact: My dad really was a Neo-Nazi and he really did vote Democrat.

not really, no. Minorities aren't as sensitive as white people are to that sort of thing.

We've had 44 white male Vice Presidents. Now that we've had a taste of a PoC in the White House, what makes you think we're willing to put up with a fully white White House again, and so soon? Maybe it's not "Minorities aren't as sensitive" and more "Minorities have had to put up with this bullshit for so damn long".

This is all assuming you're not trolling or being sarcastic.

I still don't get this appeal of Julian Castro to anybody. I mean if she had to pick a Castro, then I'd go Joaquín.

He was a ceremonial Mayor that was seemingly elevated to a comparatively low level cabinet post in a desperate search for Obama 2.0. His ethnicity and age really seems like the only thing anyone is picking him for.

I agree, I've been down on Castro as VP for awhile and I don't get how he's the ONLY name people seem to be throwing out. I don't think his resume is that impressive for a VP slot (obviously it's impressive in a general sense).

If anything I feel like he should try to unseat Cruz in the senate haha. Maybe turn that into a Pres. run in 10 years

i dont know if any of you were aware, poligaf moves pretty fast these days, but that Ann Coulter said Donald Trump should deport Nikki Haley? This woman is a legendary troll

I wouldn't be shocked to see Donald Trump pick Carly Fiorina as his VP. They are both political outsiders, and it gives him a woman on the ticket (granted a not very popular one) to try and shore up his numbers with non-White Men. There's no way Trump wins in the General Election anyway, but it's not the most terrible picks--certainly not as bad as McCain picking Palin.

I don't think he can pick anyone in the field right now. He's smashed them all. He needs like a Susanna Martinez.

edit: Also he has absolutely destroyed Fiorina.

True--but knowing Trump he will, and will spin it as "Everyone else was losers compared to me, but <VP Pick> is still miles ahead of that crap Democratic Candidate."

Doubt-hat today:

So don’t tell people that he doesn’t know the difference between Kurds and the Quds Force. (They don’t either!) Tell people that he isn’t the incredible self-made genius that he plays on TV. Tell them about all the money he inherited from his daddy. Tell them about the bailouts that saved him from ruin. Tell them about all his cratered companies. Then find people who suffered from those fiascos — workers laid off following his bankruptcies, homeowners who bought through Trump Mortgage, people who ponied up for sham degrees from Trump University.

Yeah um nobody has mentioned his corporate bankruptcies or inherited wealth before.

I think people need to stop assuming Trump does anything conventional for VP.

He may end up picking his daughter for all we know.

Yep. He already stole everyone's soul in the field. What if Oprah takes his phone call ?!

Edit:^^ I expect complete non convention on theVP pick. He will pick another political outsider and double down on it

The head of the Republican Party in VT gave an interview before his speech here and said he's got his fingers crossed that Trump picks Kim Kardashian lol.

Bloomberg has a similar piece as their headline. He seems to be ramping up the negative rhetoric a bit, which seems somewhat uncharacteristic but I guess it's crunchtime.

Fiorina is probably hoping for like a cabinet spot in a Bush administration. ROFL woops on that one.

Well Sanders has probably never met Adam. So...

I'm enthusiastic, but at the same time, if Bernie does win, I'm not going to be pulling my hair out and screaming into the blackness that exists where my heart used to be.

If Bernie wins, I put our electoral chances in the hands of Trump being the nominee. It'll be a disgusting, horrible and only marginally winnable GE. I still feel Bernie would lose, but it might not be the hell that a Bush, Rubio, or Kasich would bring.

Like I said, I'll work for whichever person we nominate. I just think it should be Hillary.

Also, enthusiasm comes in all types of shapes and sizes. I'd rather 5 enthusiastic people on the ground than 50 Reddit keyboard activists. That's why I was asking if people were going to bank for their horse in the race. Do something to help. That way, if you win or lose, you can blame yourself and drink away your tears.

It's impossible to judge the enthusasim for the general election before the nomination. When Clinton is the candiate and when voter know who she's going up against, that's going to change the dynamic.

Trump has a sub-50% favorable rating across the board. In what world do people look at a Sanders v. Trump and think Trump is the better option?

I admire your passion even if I disagree with your decision. I wish everyone was this passionate about politics.

And without a doubt, this has been the most informed forum on politics I've ever seen in my life. It feels so good to come in here and learn things I'd never known, especially about economics. My ADHD brain is chewing on what Crab and other econ geeks are talking about.

That said, I think Sanders definitely needs Ha-Joon Chang on his economics team!

He, heh!

They don't, but they might not necessarily look at Bernie and want to vote for him too.

That's why Bloomberg is seriously considering an independent run.

In the world (reality) where, were Sanders to be the nominee, the words "socialist" and "promised to raise taxes on the middle class" will be uttered in every other sentence when Republicans talk about him for 6+ months.

Exactly. In a world where Socialism isn't a thing, then maybe Bernie has a better chance. That's not the world we live in.

It sure helped them beat Obama in 2012.

Obviously since Socialist policies like Medicare and Social Security are so unpopular, the idea of embracing such things is never going to happen.

In the nightmare scenario where nobody has 270 electoral votes, does the House have to vote for one of the nominees, or can they vote for anybody? This could be how we get President Romney.

Carly Fiorina's distinguishing feature in this cycle has been, apparently, a willingness to make up insane stories about butchered baby parts being harvested by evil Planned Parenthood organ traders. She's damn near psychopathic.

Over the weekend I realized Carly might be the GOP candidate I dislike the most. It was that stunt with the kids last week that put it over the top for me.

They were lying in 2012 and everybody knew it. They'd be telling the truth in 2016. Big difference.

You know that like 40% of people on Social Security and Medicare believe that they don't take part in governmental programs, right?

The socialism thing is a problem. When people learn he wants to raise their taxes, that's a problem. I know we can pretend that it's not...but a better use of time would be to actually tackle the issue instead of pretending their isn't one.

Maybe my recollection is wrong, but a tremendous amount of political capital was spent getting "socialised medicine" (although not really) in the form of the ACA through, and that made a major impact on the 2010 midterms?

Don't forget kidnapping kindergarteners and dragging them to an anti Planned Parenthood rally as props.
