The absolute oceans of Trump signs here in Appalachian Ohio are a real abyss-gazing experience. Every last methhead and angry old white guy is absolutely fired up. I kind of worry that sky-high voter turnout in every one stoplight town in the state will just barely result in death by a thousand papercuts for the Hillary campaign here.

The campaign has not given up on anyone or anything. They're still running on making her the best candidate out there, while also pushing back on some of Trump's shit. They will make a play for those demographics. But...

What I believe and some people here agree is that she can't do much about it in reality. Is part of that her fault? Sure, she's been guarded and not forthcoming and that hits directly to the "believe me" part of the personality. But a lot of the hits are stupid, like the fracking example that I gave a page back.

Hillary Clinton has not run a single optimistic national ad that is focused on promoting herself since the primaries. If people don't think that's a fucking problem. Her campaign is contributing to her low numbers at this point by sidelining her message in favor of attacking Trump at every opportunity.

I'm glad she's switching tone next week, but her campaign needs to do the same.

This attitude that 72% of voters are obviously sexist for not trusting Hillary isn't helpful, especially if you want those numbers to improve. Yes, I guarantee that a depressing amount of people dislike her because she's a woman and that much of the controversy surrounding her is bullshit, and that men generally have a much easier time getting elected. But maybe Hillary has issues as a candidate and with her campaign that are unrelated to her gender, and may actually be her fault and not everybody else's!

I mean Hilary certainly deserves some of the blame. A decent portion of the Obama 08 people really disliked how Hilary ran her campaign and there were some unforced errors there. That being said the GOP have basically characterized her as a murderer at this point.

Clinton just needs to be visible. Focus on her policies and a positive message. That's all she needs to focus on. Get your surrogates out there promoting them. Tomorrow we'll hopefully see the start of this new message and tone.

Sure you jab Trump every now and then. Like with this birther shit, and at the debates. Right now though. Focus on your policies.

Clinton did run this ad https://twitter.com/HillaryClinton/statuses/760847322922090496 nationally during the Olympics. I saw it a good amount. People just don't seem to be responding to policy this year.

That seems to be once they're in office. Women tend not to be viewed as well while running, Gillibrand and Warren's initial elections are good testaments to that. I think his point is that gender results in her not getting a pass on things literally everyone else does.

Yeah, I saw that ad. But while it's good at giving a summary of Hillary's policy positions, it's a shitty television ad. It's basically a well-done PowerPoint presentation.

These 30 second blips are the time to tug on people's heartstrings, not just scare them over Trump. Make people feel good about voting for you. Show them good ol' American optimism and tie it to your candidacy.

Obama knew that. Bernie knew that. Hillary seemed to know that...when she was running against Bernie.

Her ads are good at hitting Trump but that's all they seem to care about. I lose more confidence in her campaign by the day. You cannot simply highlight Trump's weaknesses and offensive behavior all the time, say nothing else and then try to run out the clock.

Honestly, the only thing Clinton needs to do is just get out there more. The polls are already moving in her direction again and that's after two normal days of campaigning, plus a Trump fuck up or two.

She impressed many officials during the primaries, she has corporate ties (lol I know), she's actively campaigning for a position, and she's a white woman. I'd say it's a good bet. Republicans are going to have to make a hard pivot away from Trump, and they need to rebuild with female voters.

Just as they trotted out Steele to feign diversity I expect something similar with Fiorina.

This guy gets it. Flea Markets are basically a step above cruising landfills, but instead of food waste it's all brightly colored lawn ornaments, plastic jewelry, and outfits for cement geese. Most of the time it's the people you meet who are the real trash.

This triggered a memory of going to the Coshocton County fair in the year 2000, where someone was selling baseball caps that just said "White Christian American." I was born and raised in Tennessee, and that took me aback. I'm pretty sure Coshocton was on the Underground Railroad, too. Ohio is not always the utopia it is made out to be.

I did see more Confederate flags when I went to college in rural Ohio than I saw growing up in suburban Tennessee. Not a totally fair comparison since it's rural vs urban/suburban, but I was surprised by it.
