Someone said it earlier. But the thought of Clinton sitting down in a room with like 10 manufacturing workers and answering their questions would have been so good. Put it up on youtube. Have weekly segments. Daily segments of her sitting and talking to people all over the country. Because that is what Hill is good at.

I still can't believe that the Media just played Trump's hateful speech 24/7 for months. Way to give Trump a megaphone and power to just reinforce it over people and people's brains until it took over.

Media should have refused to give Trump the time of day regardless of any blowback saying that kind of speech doesn't belong in USA.

Another bit that I know will be controversial to the extreme:

  • No comprehensive gun reform is possible or even desirable in this climate of building fascism. Minorities especially need an added layer of protection and deterrence, and it's time to wake up to reality. We need more minorities practicing their 2A rights, not less. Now is not the time for disarmament.

Political power comes from the barrel of a gun. This is something socialists and liberals tend not to agree on, but it's why I'm not a huge supporter of gun bans. I usually just kept quiet about it, but I think the amount of white racism out there makes it obvious that PoC need to defend themselves by any means necessary.

I'm not sure I like where this is going. I have no problems with Ellison but Bernie is jumping at the opportunity to reshape the DNC too eagerly.

You cannot be a party which on one hand says we're in favor of working people, we're in favor of the needs of young people but we don't quite have the courage to take on Wall Street and the billionaire class. People do not believe that. You've got to decide which side you're on. That's why Bernie Sanders supports Rep. Keith Ellison to be the next Chair of the DNC:

"We must also do everything we can to elect Democrats in Congress in 2018, and to take back the White House in 2020. We need a Democratic National Committee led by a progressive who understands the dire need to listen to working families, not the political establishment or the billionaire class. That is why I support Keith Ellison to be the next Chair of the Democratic National Committee, and why I hope you'll join me in advocating for him to lead the DNC." - Bernie Sanders

Add your name to this page if you agree with Bernie. We'll deliver your signature to members of the DNC to send a strong message about why Keith should be DNC Chair.

I guess what's one more experiment after letting Trump be the leader of the free world?

I kinda wish she was a bit more open about this. Maybe it wouldn't have made a difference, but still. Him knowing a question before a debate that was leaked..and just everything else. But she has to sell a book I guess.

This also confirms that a lot (if not all) of the accusations he threw at Hillary were projections. We knew it all along but it will start to unravel for everyone.

This Trump tweet is very encouraging to me. It shows that we can still get to him. Trump is a small, pathetic man. The idea that of a nation of people he is supposed to lead hating him will haunt him for his entire term.

This needs to be the case. Always harass him. He's a bully, so stand up to him. Constantly remind him that the majority of Americans didn't vote for him.

They tried to delegitimize Obama. We're going to fucking succeed at doing that to him.

Full agreement here.

I'm actually stunned that I've not received any pushback for saying this.

The problem with the radicals' perspective of minorities arming themselves more is that government goons can then say "He/she had a gun! They were suspicious/I had to defend myself!"

I don't know what the net impact is, I would need to see a study, but I don't know if radical journals do very good science.

I was going to tell you that it's insane to even think that he would launch them... but then I really thought about it and now I'm stressed again.

This is a stupid hypothetical, but if Trump wanted to, could he actually Nuke part of America? Just like, straight up Nuke a city where heavy protests are going on if he wanted to? There has to be a bunch of checks blocking him from doing that kind of thing right?

I'm sorry that's an insane thing to say, but I can actually see Trump doing it in a fit of sociopathic rage if the protesting got bad enough. I just feel like he can't... right?
He could do it and not a single human on Earth could stop him.

Sorry in advance for the long post, but I hate social media and I need to put this somewhere.

Not that I disagree with the sentiment that America needs to find a way to move forward from here, but the hypocrisy on display from the people preaching "unity! We must come together to support our president!" is grating on me.

For context, I grew up in a very conservative farm town. My degree is in political science (from Paul Ryan's alma mater no less....). I am still technically registered as a republican (voted for Kasich in the primaries as an attempt to stop Trump, alas) but I've been an independent for as long as I've been voting. I like people who are liberal socially and who care about people and their well being. I also care about being good stewards of the resources we are given in a country as wealthy as this and creating lasting economic change and national debt relief that comes with both higher taxes on the wealthy and common sense spending and waste savings. That typically lines up with democrats just because the social issues are so critical, but some republicans as well.

I look at government the way I look at my reponsibility to my family and friends. Take care of people, love them for who they are, make responsible decisions now that will pay dividends later, make more than you spend, invest in learning, make people better today than they were yesterday, if you have plenty then give to those who have few, if you are fortunate then help those who aren't.

I was all in for Hillary this time around because I felt that from her campaign, from the people around her, from the contrast to her opponent. This election could not have been more disappointing to me, but it's worse for others who will be more directly impacted than a white guy from Ohio.

To say, in that context, 2 days after the most divisive campaign of all time "c'mon guys, let's just come together and support our president" is tone deaf. It's like telling someone "I told you so" when their world crashes down. There might be truth there but no one wants to hear it right now. Not after this election. Not in this climate. People need time to digest. People need to have it clearly demonstrated that their fears aren't all coming true at once. Hopefully that will be the case. Hopefully the people emboldened by this election will quiet down in a couple days and hopefully Trump will walk back a lot of his nasty awful and hurtful ideas. There's no evidence of that yet though, so people can't be expected to jump to that conclusion.

What i want to say to people I grew up with (and will in person to some that i still interact with) is where was your call for unity the last 8 years? Where was it when republicans obstructed everything this president wanted to do. Where was it when nominees weren't confirmed. When people questioned if our first black president was even born in this country. When people thought he was some kind of secret Muslim agent sent to destroy our country. When he had to be flawless to even have a chance.

Cause I know where they were...I saw it...and it certainly wasn't calling for unity.

The thing is that they generally don't want guns. They see the damage guns do to their communities and they want to get rid of them. Frankly, I see the damage guns do to my city and I want to get rid of them. I lost a friend to that shit, a friend who were just walking home and got caught by a stray, and I don't want anyone else to have that pain in their life. You give everyone guns and we just wind up with more death as a result. We should be doing the opposite. It ain't gonna be easy, but it's the right thing to do.

I will live for the day for republicans in congress to officially denounce him.

He will have to fight "his own party" in the primaries in 2020.

Honestly, if we reach 2020 and Trump hasn't been kicked out of office before then I will be very surprised. I'm betting on some sort of scandal or controversy that will get him impeached before then (especially if either the House or the Senate flip to a Dem majority in 2018). Yes, many politicians do shady shit, but Trump is on a whole other level. I highly doubt that giving complete executive power to the guy who openly bragged about being able to sexually assault women because he's a celebrity will make him change his ways. If anything it'll make him even more confident that he can get away with whatever the fuck he wants.

Pence certainly ain't gonna try and keep him in line, the two clearly don't like each other and Pence was visibly annoyed anytime he had to defend or explain the latest horrible thing Trump had said leading up to the election.

Also, it is a bad, bad idea to give guns to people going through extreme mental distress and pain because suicide is only easy with guns.

I can imagine a lot of Jewish Americans will want to arm right now just in case, but they're also probably going through anguish that they may not have ever personally felt in their lives.

I got my appetite back today and ate ALL THE THINGS. I was dying. My stomach wouldn't stop making noise because over a day and a half I had eaten a third of a package of General Tso take out and a piece of toast with peanut butter
Weird, the only things I could eat for the 36 hours after the election were some Chinese food and toast with peanut butter too.

Granted that it's early yet, and there are folks who shouldn't carry regardless.

What I learned from this election is that white people are fragile and need to be coddled. If they aren't appeased, they will fuck over every minority group in this country.

To some extent, maybe it's better Trump won now. I think many people, including myself, had a sense that Hillary would be a one-term president, given her favorables and historical precedents. If she lost in 2020, Reps would be able to gerrymander freely after the redistricting and they could have had an actual competent person elected such as a Rubio.

Now, we have a great opportunity in 2020 for a wave election during a census year, which is huge. The next four years will be an absolute mess and that should create a great opening for 8 years of President Franken.

I'm drunk and trying to be optimistic, fuck you

What data are you basing this on?

Election night reporting mostly. They kept talking about how low turnout was in cities.

Perhaps I am wrong. I still think generalizations like that are harmful.

Full disclosure, white guy (who voted and urged others to vote, and whose wife phonebanked).

I also just realized that we destroyed the reputation for an amazing charity in the Clinton Foundation that saves millions of lives for nothing.

But not enough African-Americans, along with Latinos, heeded the call.
Some 88% of African-American voters supported Clinton, versus 8% for Donald Trump, as of very early Wednesday morning. While that's a large margin, it's not as big as Obama's victory over Mitt Romney in 2012. Obama locked up 93% of the black vote to Romney's 7%.
Some 12% of the electorate was African-American this year, compared to 13% four years ago. That's a key drop, especially when paired with a smaller-than-expected growth in Latino votes.

White people elected Donald Trump. Every other demographic in the country voted against him hugely. White people put him in the White House.

If you're a white guy who worked hard, I appreciate you. But I also expect you to own that white people are responsible for electing this man, because he is a white nationalist.

It's not our fault because for once we couldn't hold back the tide of white nationalist voters.
