LOL at this Cruz quote from this morning. How does this make any sense?

I honestly wonder if we're at the point where democrats are finally going to say, "Let's just start making up crap about republicans because nobody fact checks anyway."

Cruz has been hanging out with Lord and D'Souza, I guess. That's their favorite line!

And yeah, Nordstrom was unfair to Ivanka for not selling something no one was buying.

Basic Republican economics;the free market is an almighty benevolent God, except for when it turns on you and yours, in which case there's clearly a massive conspiracy at play. See also, coal and manufacturing.

As an aside, I'm still super bummed about cap and trade going the way of the dodo; such an elegant solution to the core economic causes of pollution.

What the hell did normstom do to get a trump tweet?

Participated in the free market. Ivanka's overpriced crap wasn't selling so they dropped her. In the Big Orange Baby's pea brain this is considered "unfair." Just like it's unfair Carnagie Hall won't let me perform my one man kooky komedy show there.

Nordstrom needs to seriously consider a lawsuit if their stock price takes a hit.

Looking at how ridiculously nationalist, racist, sexist and conservative the kids coming after us millennials are, makes me sad. They make the boomers look downright liberal...

We're never going to get a break. As soon as the boomers die out, the Trumper kiddos are going to be coming of age where they're politically active. :(

We're going to have to be the generation to keep everything not exploding into hellfire until we all die out...

Like a delicious sandwich between two moldy pieces of bread.

Al Franken is so good talking about Trump, Sessions, and the voter fraud issue (speaking now in the Senate). He seems to balance between Bernie and Hillary, at least on the surface. Is there a reason he can't run (and win) in 2020?

Not very long ago I would have said his history might be a problem (drugs, lots of "offensive" material in his books and other work) but that seems to have been thrown out the window so who the hell knows. I'm a fan.

If anyone wants a break from the horror, read Al's book "Why Not Me?" about his fictional run for president against Al Gore in the primary in 2000. It's absolutely hilarious (audiobook is probably the best way to take it in).

Al Franken has been my personal frontrunner to run in 2020, save Harris or Gillibrand for 2024. Charismatic, rational, intelligent. Sacrificial lamb at the worst, good president at the best.

Not all, he's great!

He's older than many think, but he's a youthful 65.

A lot of republicans will suddenly be concerned about how much coke someone did in the 70s (as long as there is a D by his name edit: and not a W in the middle)

Before last year you could say his pre-political history was a potential liability. I don't think that's a major concern anymore. On a gutty feelings OpticsTM level, I suppose he could come across as brainy and maybe condescending to certain people.

But I'd like to see him run.

You're treating all of Generation Z as if it's white males. It's the most diverse generation yet.

Yep a lot of stuff will magically matter to Republicans again after Mango Mussolini is gone.

Also, a funny from the twitter:
--------

Ben Wexler ‏@mrbenwexler Feb 6
Republicans are the true snowflakes (they're all white, they're cold, and if you put enough of em together they'll shut down public schools)

-------

Also on twitter people pointing out Dipshit gets his daily intelligence briefing at 10:30 AM, and today tweeted about his daughter's "unfair" treatment at 10:51 AM. At this point I don't wonder if when he makes decisions if his family's interested are in the back of his mind. I wonder if there's a time he worries about anything else.

Al Franken would get the fragile white voters feel prosecuted again because so many satirists were so mean to them while Trump was in office.

I read that list of '16 Fake News Stories Reporters Have Run Since Trump Won' Trump tweeted out and it is full of shit, unsurprisingly

November 22: The Tri-State Election Hacking Conspiracy Theory

This is a factual report about some academics wanting a recount due to discrepancies in electronic versus non-electronic voting. The author argues that Nate Silver disagrees with the academics, but that doesn't make the report on their claims false.
December 1: The 27-Cent Foreclosure

This is a true story but Politico got some minor details wrong like the name of the bank at the time. The foreclosure proceedings still happened and they were still tied to Mnuchin

January 20: Nancy Sinatra's Complaints about the Inaugural Ball

Nancy Sinatra made a tweet saying remember the first lines of the song ("And now, the end is near."). CNN ran an article characterizing that as "Nancy Sinatra not happy Trump using father's song at inauguration". She then deleted the tweet and claimed she never said anytrhing, but she did. At best you can say they mis-characterized her words but that is a stretch. Regardless, this isn't fake news -- it was reporting on a real tweet

January 20: The Nonexistent Climate Change Website ‘Purge'

Author admits that the NYT article explains everything correctly but doesn't like their headline
January 20: The Great MLK Jr. Bust Controversy

This wasn't a story that was run, it was just a tweet from some reporter
January 20: Betsy DeVos, Grizzly Fighter

100% True story that the author finds "intellectually dishonest". No allegation that reporters misquoted her or made anything up. Basically, the author just agrees with her that some schools may need guns to fight grizzly bears

January 26: The ‘Resignations' At the State Department

Again, a 100% true story but the author doesn't like the Washington Post's spin on it in their original article. I agree, but it was published as an opinion piece, in the opinion section by one of their opinion columnists. It's not news by definition

January 27: The Photoshopped Hands Affair

Not a story anyone ran, author is upset about some random tweets
January 29: The Reuters Account Hoax

The Daily Beast reported the wrong names in their story about the Quebec shooting. They got the names from a Reuters parody twitter account. Okay? Doesn't change the story or make it fake. It's just an error

January 31: The White House-SCOTUS Twitter Mistake

Not a story anyone ran, author is upset about some random tweets
January 31: The Big Travel Ban Lie

This really was a fake story, because the guy made it up. Reporters reporting on his claims did not make anything up though and ultimately exposed his lies. It's not fake news to factually report someone else's statements.

February 1: POTUS Threatens to Invade Mexico

Author puts forth no argument for why this is fake news, other than that Mexico disputes the characterization -- which was included in the original story.
February 2: Easing the Russian Sanctions

This happened exactly as it was reported. Author's only argument is that it was a minor change and that Obama would've done it too. Okay, but that doesn't make it fake news

February 2: Renaming Black History Month

Yes, this was bullshit -- but its also just a TMZ story. I'm shocked that not everything a tabloid says is true
February 2: The House of Representatives' Gun Control Measures

Another story that is 100% true but the author thinks repealing the rule is good so apparently that makes it fake news

And then Generation Alpha will be downright Marxist compared to us ;)

Is it really a good idea to have two senators in non-solid blue states to run on the same ticket?

Also, I'm not fully convinced that a woman could not win in 2020. Hilary lost by under 50,000 combined in three vital states, still won the popular vote, while being an unpopular candidate with 30 years of (unwarranted) baggage.

A woman definitely could win in 2020. Trump will be even more unpopular and won't have the nenefit of an opponent that has so much baggage. I'm also warry of running midwestern senators whose seats aren't safe. Duckworth would be a good choice.

Really it's important to see how 2018 goes because that will determine if the Senate can even flip back.

I am not so sure about this, sadly. Sexism was a major undercurrent of the last election, and was a major reason white rurals were driven to vote.

Gen Z is majority-minority. Do not confuse white Gen Zers as the entirety of that generation.

I'm not sure what Franken offers that Brown doesn't, honestly.

Other than a seat that's easier to win back, anyways, but that seems small compared to beating Trump.

I think if Kirsten Gillibrand decides to run, she'll easily win the primary. Basically a younger Hillary without all the baggage. Her campaign could basically be "Hey America, here's your chance for a do-over, don't fuck this up again!". All she has to do for the next 4 years is vote "No" on everything while carrying Bernie's water.

No idea what @POTUS is even there for beyond general WH announcements. It won't be used in any meaningful way beyond continuing to bludgeon the reputation of the presidential office.

I was googling around about Gen Z and I found this YouGov poll by the "Victims of Communism Memorial Foundation" that I'm sure was totally scientifically calculated, but it supports my own desires so I'll take it!

· Roughly half of millennials (55%) believe Communism was and still is a problem – compared with 80% of Baby Boomers and 91% of elderly Americans;

· While 57% of all Americans have a “very unfavorable” view of communism, that view is shared by just 37% of millennials and 38% of Generation Z;

· 64% of Americans agreed with the classic Karl Marx statement that underpins Marxist philosophy: “from each according to his abilities, to each according to his needs”;

· Nearly half of Generation Z (45%) say they would vote for a socialist; 1 in 5 (21%) say they would vote for a communist;

Turning Against Capitalism – the “Bernie Sanders Bounce”:

· A majority of millennials (53%) believe America’s economic system works against them;

· 4 in 10 Americans call for a “complete change” of America’s economic system to ensure highest earners pay their fair share;

· 64% of elderly Americans (age 65+) held a favorable view of capitalism, versus 42% of millennials;

· Younger Americans were far less likely to agree with ideas of capitalist Milton Friedman (Gen Z: 55%; millennials: 58%) than they were Bernie Sanders (Gen Z: 71%; millennials: 71%).

The new ass kissing governor of SC is asking 45 for $5.2mil.

And apparently they were trying to go for the mental illness defense with Dylan Roof as opposed to racist domestic terrorist motherfucker.

I don't think most democratic voters are going to take that chance. I think 2020 nominee will almost certainly be a dude

I also think this will be part of the problem of Hillary playing up the "I'm a woman, I'm with her, first female president" stuff. People are going to be more cautious about it next time because it was such a heavy part of the narrative

Fucking bullshit. No one ever argues any Islamic terrorists are just "mentally ill"

I do think though democrats in the future should actually work with republicans on a mental health bill in regards to guns.. just because half of that 33,000 gun death number a year is from suicide, and could actually be effective in bringing the overall gun death numbers down.. but not when they use it to deflect from an obvious white supremacist terrorist.

Question -- I don't quite understand how reconciliation in the Senate works. It has to be for budget-specific or tax specific provisions?

Is it possible for the GOP to sneak nation-wide right-to-work legislation through using reconciliation?
