Shit like this is why I don't want Cenk anywhere near whatever the "new Democratic party" ends up being.

What a stupid series of statements. The idea that millennials are more informed about policy than older generations is frankly laughable.

The saddest part of these statements is the suggestion that your phone and google can replace a book let alone the library.

Trump's possible replacement for Spicer thinks that Bernie is similar to Hitler (who killed Bernie's relatives and ancestors).

Things are going to get more deranged.

Well Bernie is a nationalist and a socialist...

My gf got an Amazon Prime trial.

I'm launching head-first into Alpha House. Any of you guys seen it? I saw the first episode years ago and I don't want to start it if it's going to disappoint after that.

I don't know if Snowden is a Russia spy if Russia is going to send him to the United States to kill him.

I mean, maybe, but seems bad long-term? Why would you be an American spy for Russia ever again after witnessing Trump guillotine Snowden?

I looked it up and as much as I hate to admit it...

2012, but couldn't find any other sources on preliminary searches.

Someone fucking kill Bashar al-Assad.

Syrian President Bashar al-Assad dismissed as ”fake news" allegations his government executed thousands of people opposed to his regime. ”You can forge anything these days," Assad told Yahoo News in an interview released Friday. ”We are living in a fake-news era, as you know." As my colleague J. Weston Phippen reported, an investigation released this week by Amnesty International detailed allegations that Syrian officials oversaw the clandestine hangings of between 5,000 and 13,000 people—executions the report says were authorized by the highest levels of the government. When shown photographs depicting the bodies of tortured detainees in a Syrian prison being used as evidence in a Spanish lawsuit accusing Syrian officials of torture and human-rights abuses, Assad dismissed them as ”photoshopped"; an FBI report notes the photos were not manipulated. The Amnesty report is hardly the first time the Syrian government has been accused of human-rights violations. A 2016 UN report found evidence the Assad government used chemical weapons against civilians during the country's nearly six-year civil war in violation of its international treaty obligations. When asked about President Trump's executive order barring Syrian refugees displaced by the civil war from entering the United States on the grounds they could pose a security risk, Assad said there were ”definitely" terrorists among them, adding, ”you can find it on the net."

The fact that we have all the recorded knowledge of the world at our fingertips and are still so goddamn stupid is even more insulting.

Flynn is going to take one for the team and do time in federal max. Too much smoke and fires being confirmed everywhere. He's done. Hoping he gets a plea deal and rats every fucker in White House.

Information and knowledge are two different things. There is information on quantum mechanics on the internet, but reading it doesn't make me knowlegeble on it. In fact I might come away with wrong understanding because I'm a moron about quantum mechanics. Now replace that with politics.

So what your saying is the seemingly strange actions at a distance btween Trump and Russia is just quantum entanglement?

I feel the Chicago town hall with captures why Dems lost in AA turnout in many places. You have a Democratic Mayor who was CoS of Barack Obama and well he sucks donkey balls.

It's why reading in-depth about politics either needs a really well-trained critical-eye, or a friend or family-member who is pretty knowledgeable and fairly unbioased that you can ask questions of. Preferably both, to be honest. Actually, I think that's why PoliGAF is the thread I lurk and post in most in all of GAF. :)

I know this is a bit of a long-shot, but would anyone who's relatively bored be willing to add me to Facebook, to chat about politics? (PM me.) I have lots of questions and thoughts and don't really want to shit up this or other threads... PS please let me know if this sort of request is forbidden :)

Corbyn's the very personification of the negative British stereotype. Weak, ineffectual, rather be making jam, doesn't say what he means, and a bit of a poor public speaker.

To be fair, he had to be convinced to run for leader, but he's just useless now, in ways that are hurting the country for the next 10 or 20 years.

How Trump could trigger a bust in the American West

Essentially, TPP would've been awesome for American cattle farmers, opening-up Japan quite signifcantly by lowering tariffs to 9% (a quarter of what they currently are). Now TPP is going forward without the US, cattle farmers are worried Australia (and possibly the EU) will take the market they had their eye on.

But, hey, no, Mr Trump, tell us how TPP was awful for everyone. Like, the worst.

TPP has some real good parts.

If they had just kept out the piracy/data/copyright stuff.

Obama also did a piss poor job explaining what TPP is to the public.

Yeah, and Hillary too. She could've said at any point "I'm against TPP, but it does offer some good pointers for future trade agreements - like American farmer's cattle exports."

But nooooooooo... :(

Has this guy seen the transcripts to the Lincoln-Douglas debates? Those were incredibly complex discussions that lasted hours and required the audience to be extremely informed.

It's honestly hard to take anything political seriously after the advent of television. Prior to the radio public discourse was a lot more knowledgeable about politics than we are now in the age of the internet and television. Padding is strong in these statements.

What was the literacy rate around that time?

What was the literacy rate around that time?

About 85% for whites and 15% for blacks and other racial groups. If you were in a white community, even if you couldn't read, you'd have known someone who could, so functionally any written material of sufficient importance would reach almost all voters.

You can't explain this stuff to people. Regardless of whether or not TPP was good or not (and who gives a shit anymore), it's complex. People don't like or care about complexity.

That's no reason not to make an effort. And its counter productive if the default narrative is that its back-room dealing filled with negative repercussions that had to be kept from public scrutiny.

Obamacare is complex too, but that conversation eventually got started in earnest once Obama and others decided to bring the case to the people.

More ...design or negotiations yet. When I do, just like with the F-35 FighterJet or the Air Force One Program, price will come WAY DOWN!

I THOUGHT MEXICO WAS PAYING FOR THE WALL

Exactly. Comprehension is very different from being able to just google something.

It was very funny when I watched it, but since the election I'm a lot less keen on it. We shouldn't be humanizing the Republicans, even the "good" ones.
