what if we get a non racist replacement for sessions? wishful thinking?

The trend so far has been to moderation on replacements. Hopefully that continues.

Chris Christie sucks and is corrupt as fuck, but even he's an improvement over Sessions.

CNN... I can't

breaking news:
Justice Department: Sessions misled senate
Sessions misled senate
Breaking news

Sessions didn't mislead senate

Make up your fucking minds

That was the statement from the DOJ. They are just reporting what the DOJ said.
but they have justice dept "statement" (sessions spot I assume) and justice department sources. But neither detail is articulated so it looks like they are report the JD said he both did and did not mislead.

So he just practically admitted they were discussing the election.
The weasel there is "about the 2016 election." He could claim he was talking about anything else.

Ask any self-righteous Republican about Bill Clinton's impeachment, and they'll say it had nothing to do with a blowjob, but that he lied to Congress and committed perjury. Sessions needs to be gone. Fantastic that we'll be rid of him from the Senate as well.

I don't know what that wall of quotes was but I swear I saw it. Adamsappel holding onto receipts for claim chowder later 🤔

After several of these oustings, how long before we see more McMaster situations (either where the replacement is competent or where the replacement can't legally say no; McMaster looks like the former, and definitely fills the latter lol).

"Didn't disclose" is so weasel-worded it drives me nuts. He lied. It's on tape.

Media still can't bring themselves to use the L word.

iaison for foreign interests

There is no way to prove what they discussed in the meeting in his office, unless they recorded it. If they did and they want to prove that he didn't talk about the campaign and such, then go ahead.

The main point is, he didn't disclose the meeting, He clearly remembers it enough to say that they didn't talk about the election.

Reminds me of "Trump recorded having extremely lewd conversation about women in 2005", leading to the extremely easy "locker room talk" defense.

"minor lapse in judgment" is what they will ultimately go with.

The meeting(s) shouldn't have happened.

When Puzder stepped down for Labor secretary Trump replaced him with someone sane. Dude can't handle losing so he kinda caves when shit gets real. So its possible here too.

I was just thinking about this. We could possibly have a sane government in a year because everyone keeps resigning and being replaced by people like McMaster.

Are you sure you should be so confident in saying this is gonna doom Sessions?

Either it dooms Sessions and creates the image of a Trump administration that's corrupt, but balanced by the GOP...

Or, it doesn't doom him, and the GOP are shown once again to put party/power over country. And the GOP and Trump administration look even worse in the long-run.

It depends on if the GOP continue to run this along partisan lines. At some point, though, they'll realise that standing behind Trump no matter what will screw them and the US over, so it's just when they decide to stand up.

There is no "good" option for Trump/GOP. There's only degrees of bad.

The "good" GOP politicians also have to worry about how this looks in 2 years if they didn't come out against it. It's the easiest play in the world to just run attack ads against every Rep that didn't call for investigations, at the least. It's all well and good to stonewall and cover for each other while you have the House, but if that swings in 2018, then heads start rolling and committees start digging like crazy.

I realize it be bad optics but is it possible for Trump to pardon Sessions to keep him safe/in the cabinet? Is the only thing that would prevent that the riots in the streets it would cause?

Even if nothing happens with Sessions (which...I can't imagine him surviving this), the good thing about these leaks and the continued pressure on Russia is that it means those sanctions are likely not getting lifted any time soon.

History has proven that you're not shielded from backlash against the party if you seperate yourself from the party on the issue voters are backlashing against.

But I guess it's possible the backlash could be even worse without doing so.

I think 'Sessions didn't mislead' was probably an spokesperson and CNN didn't put that in headline. Perhaps it was a mistake.

I think they are reporting that Sessions wasn't very truthful; so I wouldn't really worry about it.

I don't know if there is a mechanism for prosecuting Sessions while he's still AG.

Either way, I'm guessing the possibility he's forced to resign is far greater than the possibility of him being prosecuted.

A pardon after he resigns would look bad, but bad looking pardons aren't exactly new to politics, like Scooter Libby. Trump has endured far worse optics.

Every day we get new revelations just makes me angrier and angrier about Obama. I mean seriously, unless all of this turns out to be completely nothing I don't see how Obama is not forever maligned as the President who put the security and stability of the entire world in jeopardy all because he was afraid that calling out treason would been seen as 'partisan' behavior.

He has a Nazi as his Chief of Staff- you think he cares about bad optics?

I really like this summary that I saw on Twitter.

Let's sum it up in order of appearance in the past 2 hrs:

1. White House counsel orders staffers not to delete anything Russia-related

2. That WH memo is leaked by 3 officials working in administration now, who ask to remain anonymous (snort). This means: subpoena arrived.

3. Then we get event 2) which is Schiff interviewed by Chris Matthews and tweeting that House has reached agreement on Russian investigation

4. The document Schiff tweets states in no uncertain terms that they'll investigate ALL aspects of Russia hacking incl. collusion with Trump

5. Of note is the quote from Nunes at the end of the official document Schiff tweeted. Total 180 from his lame "nothing here" attempt.

6. This means Dems in committee played hardball, and Schiff in particular. They left Nunes NO choice. Committee is BIPARTISAN. Key point.

7. Last but not least, the @nytimes drops the bomb that the Obama administration rushed to preserve all intel on Russia collusion

8. Which means "Obama knew and he made sure intelligence got all the help he could give". MORE IMPORTANTLY, new confirmed bits in story.

9. EU intelligence told US that Trump associates met with Russians in Netherlands, England and other places. These details were undisclosed.

10. In short, we, your EU allies, most likely have what @20committee calls SIGINT on said meetings, so Trump & associates? Are screwed.

11. If you think these three events are unrelated? Think again. IC knows how to time its own leaks, and that's how NYT broke the story.

12. And since when it rains, it pours: https://www.washingtonpost.com/worl...05eda-feac-11e6-99b4-9e613afeb09f_story.html?

13. And now Nancy Pelosi is asking Sessions to resign AND WSJ is reporting that Sessions is under FBI investigation

The dominoes that fell today were incredible.

Think we can start to get cabinet members to turn on one another? I want to imagine their meetings like a trial in Dangaronpa with Trump just watching and laughing.

Tangentially related that I loved from the campaign and what I'm going to start using at my go-to butheremails.gif.

Remember all the way back when we were joking about how trump said he knew foreign policy because he met Putin at a 60 minutes green room, even though the two were on two different continents for the taping.

How naive we were.

He wasn't afraid.

He was told, directly to his face by Mitch McConnel, that the republicans would not in possible way co-operate with this, and that if he did it Mitch would walk onto the White House lawn and call it a partisan stunt to protect Hillary because of her emails.

The republicans don't care about the country, and were more than happy to go along with Russian interference as long as they won and got their tax cuts.

Obama always played the long game. He made a lot of long game moves here so it may not be readily apparent what decisions he made until later. Like the spreading of intelligence thing

Yeah and it even though he knew, there was no smoking gun evidence and lots of investigation left to go. Sounds like Obama did all he could given the circumstances.
