"After this policy, we have not had voter suppression/Korea being nuked so therefore we don't need this policy."

It's time to throw away my umbrella because I'm not getting wet in the rain.

NK has largely paper numbers on thier forces, they have enough to level Seoul in rapid force but beyond that I seriously doubt they could sustain and mobilize their 2 million (?) strong forces. Now if there was no US they have reason to build up an actual fighting force that could win in a conflict because SK is vulnerable in a scenario without the US backing them up.

The other part is China controls the leeway NK has in starting shit because they don't want a US build up so close to home. Now I believe conflict (cold or hot) is eventually coming between the US and China (Chins also believes this) so being able to flex and get them to yank on Un's leash is advantageous.

Saw my first MAGA hat in the wild at a buffet in a horse track/casino today.

That's what I get for leaving the city and traveling out to the farms.

I'm in the DC Metro area so i see one from time to time as tourists, but i usually don't do touristy stuff so i tend to run into them when my parents are here, which is awkward (not that they aren't sympatico, but i have a visceral angry reaction to seeing those redcaps that they find embarrassing).

I know, it's a pretty horrifying reality.

If only we'd elected Martin who was wronged by the DNC, superdelegates and voters.

It's a shame the Democrat's primary voters didn't want to gamble with O'Malley because they didn't think he could win. A distant also-ran wasn't a fair shake and most reasonable people would agree I think.

His policies and his rhetoric during the campaign should've resulted in a more competitive race. Primary voters definitely paid the price for their poor decision-making in 2016.

Garcetti was never going to win, not with his record.

He should have demonstrated he could win. Easier said than done, but still it is his responsibility to show the Democratic Party that he has the ability.

I want him to win and sing the Iowa song that he did in the primary during his first SOTU. It would be the best thing ever.

Not really.

With all this talk of NK and the messes still in Afghanistan and Iraq, maybe it would be a nice change of pace for the USA to get invaded
for the second time
instead.

I saw my first MAGA hat while I was at a barbeque which some of my wife's new friends that I've never met in an affluent suburb. The guy who had it was a seventy year old at a graduation party next door. I didn't jump the fence and punch him in the face, and I regret it to this day.

(So much for the tolerant left)

Cute, but the Voting Rights Act isn't oppressing 50 million South Koreans and contributing to a permanent air of regional hostility.

The US needs to convince North Korea that we don't want to wage a genocidal war against them. Trump is doing the opposite.

I am pretty sure there will always be a bad atmosphere between two bordering countries when one of the countries is a brutal dictatorship with nuclear weapons.

History would prove you wrong. China enjoys its warmest relations with Pakistan, a republic, because they know the US will not use Pakistan as a launchpad for invasion.

Brutality at home does necessarily correspond to brutality abroad. Truman and Johnson, despite being mostly benevolent at home, flattened a non-trivial part of the Asian continent and killed millions.

To be fair, don't they have two identical limos in the Presidential motorcade?

That way an attacker doesn't know which one the President is in.
But in that case, do they really make the President walk to a more distant vehicle instead of just moving placements within the motorcade once they get underway? That would make the most sense to me.

As I understand it, his vehicle is always the one at the front of the stairs.

Look, I'm just being realistic here. The only states Democrats can hope to win next year are California and New York. If we can even hold 100 seats in the House, that will be cause for celebration. Trump is teflon and his base still approves of him, McConnell smiled, Kennedy talking about retiring, the kingdom is lost.

Wait.....are you being serious? I honestly can't tell and I don't know you or the people here well enough to detect sarcasm.... :(

.

They do so because they have went to war with India, multiple times.

Edit: They're still in dispute over borders.

A truck at work that parks across from me has a big "TRUMP / PENCE" decal on the side door

I hope I never find out who drives that truck, because I could do nothing but grimace at them every time I saw them if I knew

I think it may be more that India and Pakistan are always preparing for war with each other and it's hard for Pakistan to also be on bad terms with China.

I saw the biggest Dolt 45 campaign billboard while on vacation in...rather blue Memphis. Refreshingly, I rarely see anything of his in SC/NC/GA, so the uptick in TN was a bit of a jar.

I really should order some gay pride bumperstickers and slap them on cars with those.

The Blessings of Heaven be upon you. Outstanding Leader Kim Jong Un, most intelligent and capable guardian of the true Korea! Oh great Chairman, whose shadow causes the flowers to blossom and the rivers to flow! You are the leader of the Koreans, the oldest and greatest civilization that humanity has ever produced. Korea's history stretches back into the mists of time, its people achieving many great things long before the other upstart civilizations were even conceived. Korea's contributions to the arts and sciences are too many and too wondrous to do justice to - the internet, hamburgers, even writing itself - these are but a few of the gifts Korea has given to an undeserving world!

You, great Protector, who, with cunning and charm, rose to the task of leadership just as your mighty father had done before you - your people call out to you to lead them! Great Korea is once again beset on all sides by barbarians. Can you defeat your many foes and return civilization to the rest of the peninsula? Can you build a civilization to stand the test of time?

Move to Civ VI already, dork.

I can't fucking believe that Trump left his golf course in NJ to go to his golf course in VA. I mean, can he stop being a huge asshole for a day? For one fucking day?

By the second sentence, it was being read by Leonard Nimoy in my head.

So NPR tweeted out the entire Declaration of Independence today and some of the comments were well, you can look for yourself as I can't fully explain how dumb some people in this country are:

https://twitter.com/ParkerMolloy/sta...04690352320514

"I'm the most patriotic but I haven't even read one sentence in any founding document of our country."

Seems par for the course. Reading is for the Liberal Elites™ and the Liberal Icons™ like Tulsi Gabbard.
