He’s not a serial murderer, rapist, or child molestor. It’s bullshit to lump them together to justify to yourself why you(the poster I quoted) wants him to suffer a slow and painful death from cancer.

I agreed with you? I said "True" he doesn't belong in that category.

And yet - he's still a piece of shit.

I'm not arguing this any more. Criticising Dems for applauding McCain on his return from brain cancer treatment is petty and stupid. It also plays into the hands of MAGAbots and other dipshit GOPsters trying to present liberals as vindictive scumbags in the eyes of ordinary Americans.

John McCain is a BAD PERSON and deserves no love from anyone because he is a monster. I'm sorry if that is offensive to you!

This constant tone policing on behalf of reddit trolls is utterly pathetic.

Way to miss the point. The point is "this person has a disease and therefore deserves sympathy" is bullshit. I don't think anyone would care if any of the people I listed were alive and contracted a horrible, painful disease. So obviously there is a line where a person goes past the point of redemption. For some, to cross that line you have to be truly evil, on the level of history's greatest monsters, like Stalin, Hitler, Pol Pot. For others, that line is being a serial murderer or rapist, someone who has no regard for human life. For me, I have a much lower tolerance for bullshit. John McCain chose to spend the precious few months of his life left attempting to take healthcare away from millions of people. He crosses that line for me, and I don't give a shit about him anymore. Fuck John McCain, now and forever
No I understood your point, you just framed it in a pretty shitty and unfair way. Say you dislike his vote, make fun of him for always voting yes despite anything he may say, don’t sit there and hope cancer eats him alive. You’re effectively posturing that he deserves it, to my eyes at least.

This has nothing to do with politics though. Healthcare is a human right. He wants to take it away from people.

So on a human level he's objectively a piece of shit. His own cancer notwithstanding.

Hey, man, nobody said inhuman scumbags like McCain don't deserve health care.

This is a level of inanity I didn't expect from you.

You don't have to like the man, nor is anyone asking you sympathise for his condition, just don't lose your shit over Democratic Senators extending well wishes to a colleagues. THAT'S ALL!

This is dumb. Would you feel the same if you found out Hitler had brain cancer? Ok now what about Stalin? Charles Manson? Jeffrey Dalmer? A serial rapist? A child molester? At some point a person is a bad person. If any of those people had brain cancer I would feel no sympathy. John McCain, leaving his deathbed to come to Washington solely to throw 22 million people off of healthcare so they can't get the same treatment he currently is, crosses that line for me. Fuck that old bastard. May the cancer be slow and painful

Sweet suffering Christ! WTF did I read there.

PROGRESSIVE ICON HEIDI HEITKMAP TBQH DRAG THEM QUEEN OF THE NORTH THE SANSA STARK OF OUR TIME

@SenatorHeitkamp
I can't support the Senate Republican health care bill because I care too much about North Dakotans.

@SenatorHeitkamp
Today was a vote that will go down in history. Republicans in the Senate knowingly voted to strip away health care for 23 million Americans

@SenatorHeitkamp
Which includes kids w/disabilities, seniors in nursing homes, folks who rely on rural hospitals, & those seeking treatment for opioid abuse.

@SenatorHeitkamp
We absolutely need to improve the current health care system – but this bill isn't the way to do it.

@SenatorHeitkamp
Pushing through a bill without even talking with those on the other side of the aisle isn't the way to do it.
@SenatorHeitkamp
Advancing a bill that is opposed by hundreds of organizations including @AARP, @NDMedAssn, & ND Hospital Association isn't the way to do it.

@SenatorHeitkamp
I've long said, Congress must work across party lines to seek transparent, bipartisan reforms to our health care system so it works better

‏@SenatorHeitkamp
I want to have that conversation and I hope Republicans will join me. Congress needs to talk about solving problems – not who to blame.

No one is really doing this, and if they do - who cares? It doesn't matter.

I am mad that Democratic Senators celebrated human garbage and will continue to do so for the next hour, but thanks for the advice to all of us.

Their job is to represent their constituents.

Their constituents hate McCain.

They fucked up!

What do dems gain by being mean to McCain when others clap for him for not being dead yet? Some of you guys just want to give republicans more ammo for attack ads.

There is a slight possibility that McCain just wants for there to be at least one debate on this issue and he will end up voting no. I wouldn't count on it but it is possible.

I and my children have pre-existing conditions. I have major sympathy for anyone with those or are dealing with cancer, disease, etc.

That said, no bill has passed yet.

Yes, but a veteran Senator who knows the process shouldn't allow an unprecedented process to go forward, in particular one related to his current condition.

The speech was nauseating considering he voted "yay"

I.e., he's a Turtle enabler.

Don't Dems get to make amendments? If so won't that doom this from the get go?

Every amendment gets voted on, but the majority can also vote to stop the minority from presenting amendments.

Question is how much control McConnell still has. Yeah, he got the MTP through by having to lug a half-corpse halfway across the country, but he's burned whatever goodwill he once had in the last few weeks. Enough of the caucus might let the Dems rough him up a little just to make him eat some shit.

It's not like we have any power over how painful McCains cancer is either. McCain is exactly the same person he has always been. Whatever.

This is the price Dems pay for being the party of 'norms' and 'institutions'. Trump is a genius.

You mean the attack ads they were going to make anyway about godless, baby-killing liberals who let grown men in the bathroom with little girls?

Yeah, we wouldn't want to give them more ammunition.

We end up having to be because the Dems barely moved left while the GOP went full crazy.

The Dems are both the left and the center party now because the GOP has completely abandoned it.

I actually think most Dems probably see McCain as one of the "good ones". (see: the entire 2016 campaign)

Of course, they shouldn't but that's another problem entirely...

So Dems putting forth amendments is just a stall tactic to being more visibility ... gotcha
Every amendment they present that the gop votes against adds to their chest of attacks for 2018. There’s practical purpose to it. That and it’s going to be really annoying for the republicans. In the dems capacity to win anything here, it’s win-win.

No I'll do what I please. This isn't a vote on some infrastructure bill or spending. Millions of people will be affected, and thousands will die. And all of this could've been avoided completely if John McCain simply stayed home. He chose to come in to the Senate and voted for a massively unpopular bill that was created in secret and flew in the face of Senate norms, all to appease a President that shit on him for getting captured. I'll save my sympathy and empathy for all of the people who will be harmed by this, McCain gets none of it. Fuck him, I don't believe in the sanctity of life, I believe you're as good as your actions. McCain getting killed by cancer after he votes to kick millions off of healthcare just seems like karma

Then why stop at booing a guy with brain cancer? If optics don't matter, why not just get it over with and strangle him on the senate floor? /s

You guys will rationalize any insane idea that crosses your minds.

What Democrats have only slowly come to understand (or some still fail to understand) is that their base is mad as hell and want them to be too.

Like when Liz Warren voted for fucking Ben Carson. She badly misread the mood on that one. They bought into the same "give him a chance" shit that some of the media was pitching back in January. Thankfully they found themselves pretty quickly, but there's still too much comity in the Senate for my liking.

The House has the better idea, as much as that "hey hey goodbye" chant got criticized. That's more of what we need to see: the meanness of the GOP platform should be met by meanness.

fuck I'm hard.

@RosenforNevada

No, @DeanHeller. Nobody's smiling. Your deciding vote to strip health care from tens of thousands of Nevadans is a disgrace.

It's asymmetrical warfare, and we're losing.

Sure, but voting to confirm Ben Carson is not the same thing as being mean to a guy with brain cancer. It's not like they voted to go along with whatever McCain says.

I'm pretty pissed off about the hug and the applause, tbh.

More so about how the media is portraying McCain right now.

EDIT: At work so I had the draft window up for a long time. Won't bring up a conversation we're moving on from.

I don't really give a crap if Senate Democrats are nice to cancer ridden Republicans as long as they all vote against the Republicans.

They must really never expect the Democrats to have the White House, the House, and 50+ in the Senate again.

Because they just set a dangerous precedent.

They'll just bitch about how Dems are going around constitutional and senate norms and how they're destroying American institutions cuz they know the media will never call them out on the fact that Republicans already did all those things
