It's frankly astonishing that Trump & Co. genuinely thought the transgender ban would be putting Democrats in tough spot. Like, "Ha! Now they'll have to come out and say they want transgenders to serve in the military! Good luck winning in 2018 with that message libtardz!". But as the Washington Post said, Dems don't even have to say anything about the ban because Republicans are coming out against it.

Ugh.

Right, like I said. Dems don't have any real socialists because they didn't know they'd need one. So they're retrofitting their candidates as fast as they can and the question is whether one of them can get the Bernie supporters, in which case they'll win the primary. If Gillibrand gets them she wins.

I prefer Kamala because she has a better record on social justice issues but obviously the people you're talking about don't care about that lol. Otherwise I don't care that much, most of the 2020 candidates seem fine to me, so it depends on what the difficult people choose.

Bernie's going to be playing a big part in the primary (assuming he doesn't run himself, which I don't think he will). We've still got a bit of time until then, but I can't see Bernie endorsing either Gillibrand or Harris, so I don't think they'll be getting many Bernie supporters. I could totally see Bernie endorsing Sherrod Brown, they've been good buds in the Senate for a while now.

Has there been any recent mending of fences there? I remember Bernie being reportedly insulted by Brown not endorsing him.

If anything, Kamala and Brown seem pretty buddy-buddy now.

Trump somehow pulling off a second win would be such a travesty. Dude can't even stay above 40% approval and he's only been president for six months. If he does win again it's probably another PV/EC split too.

Unless Trump starts a popular war (god forbid) I can't imagine him getting more popular votes than he did eight months ago.

While Democrats have much more wiggle-room to improve turnout than Trump has, if they don't provide a candidate who seems more convicted than Hillary they might lose again.

Full repeal was never, ever in a million years going to go through. At all. It was a token vote. It's not victory that it failed. Did they even get 40 votes for it?

I think Bernie will endorse whichever Democrat wins the primary. Despite not being a registered Dem, he's more pragmatic than a lot of his voters and has a long history of cooperating with more conservative liberals.

That came from some Politico story and Bernie personally called Brown to deny it.

You really think he'd sit out the primary? I figure he'd endorse the eventual nominee but there's no way he doesn't say which candidate he prefers.

Damn, appealing to the bigots and the hardcore evangelicals in the same day! (Redundant?)

Some shit might be barreling down the pipe.

You have to wonder if something about Trump forcing a woman to have an abortion or something else like that is coming

I don't think his is about the future; I think it's about the present. There have been indicators that Trump has been losing his base for a while now. When a GOP President is only at 50% approval in a place like Arkansas, it should be a cause for immediate concern.

It's not much but at the same time you can't trust the collective wisdom of the Republican senate as far as you can throw them. So at least we know clean repeal is dead for sure.

Yeah. It's the skinny-repeal that's expected to pass.

Paul's been confirmed for an "Aye" on the skinny repeal and Heller's indicated an "Aye" for the skinny too. Pence will break the tie provided Murkowski doesn't switch sides or McCain doesn't suddenly grow a conscience.

And the Skinny repeal only does away with the mandate?

Heller is on board? Fuck.

There's still the crazy tea partiers. None of them have indicated they support the skinny repeal, and their counterparts in the House do not want it.

Let's not jump the gun here.
