“The White House approved the use of military aircraft for multi-national trips by Health and Human Services Secretary Tom Price to Africa and Europe this spring, and to Asia in the summer, at a cost of more than $500,000 to taxpayers.

The overseas trips bring the total cost to taxpayers of Price’s travels to more than $1 million since May, according to a POLITICO review”

I hate how this isn't bigger news. Quintessential Trump hypocrisy. Any other Admin would be getting pilloried for this.

I personally think we should at least try to rebrand the party and run candidates with a bigger emphasis on financial ethics and economic, civil justice reforms in areas we don't normally win, but it would be sort of dumb to attempt that in a senate seat we absolutely need to win

But yeah, at least in the house, I want to see democrats try to sell socialism to conservative districts we think we don't have a shot in and see how it works.

Sinema is in for AZ Senate.
Hooray!

Not that she's really been keeping it a secret as of late.

Rosen, O'Rourke and Sinema are the best candidates we could hope for in the few real Senate targets we have next year. The candidates we have in Utah and Tennessee aren't bad either, even if Mackler's odds are very long and Wilson winning is utterly impossible. That leaves Mississippi (Brandon Presley would be excellent, he sounded potentially interested when asked about it on Twitter), Nebraska and Wyoming (no idea). No, I don't think any of those are particularly winnable, MS maaaybe if Chris McDaniel beats Roger Wicker in a primary and Presley runs against him. But leave no stone unturned.

Jared Kushner is dumb as fuck. Apparently he registered to vote as a woman... How do you manage to do that? He is quiet all the time but I think it's because he's a total dope. Didn't people close to him reveal he did awful in school and only got into college cause his dad is rich?

I want to believe in Beto so badly
Me too - I only count TX among NV and AZ because otherwise I'd have to admit there's no path to a Senate majority, barring a vacancy in AZ or party switching (or something else unforeseen).

Although it was part of the Democrats' six targets in 2012, too (6 in 12 was what the campaign was called) - we won half of them (MA, ME, IN) but came close in NV, AZ while TX never materialized. Got some unfinished business.

I think we have a good shot at the Senate in 2018. The map matters a lot but there's only so much you can mitigate how disastrous this Congress + Presidency will have been by then. It's only getting worse from here for the Republicans, not better.

This is so optimistic it hurts.

I like it. But it hurts.

I see strong 06 parallels. I think it will be a very, very good environment for Dem incumbents to defend their seat - which makes getting to a majority a lot more palatable, imo

We can't afford to have 2 more years of full Republican control, so, what the hell. Might as well be optimistic.

But only 46% of those GOD DAMN MILLENNIALS like Dems
Dude dumping on both parties is always the least controversial or challenged belief in America. Politics is a pendulum for a reason, 90% of the country goes from actively despising the party in power to being disappointed in their own.

I mean I think it'll be close either way. Of the 5-6 really vulnerable dem incumbent seats, we'll probably keep most of them. Maybe lose Indiana or Missouri or something. And then take one of the longshot pickups...

I don't think 51 dem seats is thaaaaaaat crazy, though we'll probably end up right around where we are now. I don't see a nightmare scenario playing out where Rs gain like 3-5 seats no matter how unfavorable the map is.

Ahahaha Zinke was caught taking private jets on taxpayer dollars to the Caribbean. Holy shit
How fucking stupid are these guys. Who thought it would be okay to just roll around luxury flights on the taxpayer's dime and no one would notice.
http://www.politico.com/story/2017/09/28/ryan-zinke-charter-military-planes-interior-243280
Interior Secretary Ryan Zinke and his aides have taken several flights on private or military aircraft, including a $12,000 charter plane to take him to events in his hometown in Montana and private flights between two Caribbean islands, according to documents and a department spokeswoman.

No celebrities. We dodged a bullet with Manning.

Given the recent trends of trump disgust and GOP infighting, if you don't like the odds, just give it a few months.

Oprah: "Bring it"

Yeah, i'd be ok with her running in that case too.

Of all the ridiculous stuff this administration gets away with on a daily basis from top to bottom, it's some plane travel from cabinet members that might actually result in resignings/firings? What an odd thing to be specifically outraged by instead of, say, the actual policies of said agencies.

Living in a left-leaning major American city (Portland) leads to some amazing facebook hot takes.

Apparently moving the California primary to March is the new move by the DNC to shut out either Sanders or anyone he supports.

The Taxpayer is still, I guess, the central unit of American politics.

It’s amazing that price is getting nailed on this when the freaking president is sucking millions of taxpayer dollars into his pockets by playing golf on the weekends.

You still need to remember that the central dogma of this administration is that poor white people do not want you taking their money. Not to distribute it to fat cats, not to distribute it to brown people, and certainly not to invest it in society in general to make life better for everyone.
