Day late and a dollar short as usual. Why would anyone want this over any of the other offerings? If you're heavily invested in digital Xbox games I suppose it would be useful.

They definitely haven't sold me on the handheld, especially at the rumored price. Still shows that Windows lite is real and it'll somewhat feel like an Xbox. Just waiting for the console version and hopefully much more forward compatibility news than just Play Anywhere, which is good but still has many holes in it.

I'm curious whether or not I'll be able to use this interface on my gaming PC. I would love to be able to just boot straight into this and never have to see regular windows again.

So, I love the concept and I love where this is heading.

But my two major concerns are:
1) What about my console games that aren't available on PC?
2) how does this thing connect to a TV? Is it good? Cuz my Ally X kinda sucks on a TV and even if I go through the trouble to dock it to a TV, the latency with a wireless controller is awful. It's fine on my monitor but it sucks connecting to my TV. So they need to make it more TV-friendly. Which will also help it be more Switch-like. Which will only help them make this more popular.

But before I dive in, I need to know what the plan is for console games in my library like Lost Odyssey, Blue Dragon, Stardew etc. cuz if I boot up Stardew on my Xbox app in my Ally X, it's the PC version and my save from my Xbox doesn't work cross-platform.

So we're getting there, but this whole unified concept thing needs some work, still. And that's why Switch is still better, even tho the specs are way lower. The Switch is sublime at the seamless switch from handheld to TV and vice versa. This thing needs to also do that.

And what about all the games that aren't Play Anywhere? Cuz eventually id just want a high-end dockable handheld and no longer need a big bulky stationary console, if the specs are good enough.

Just interested in the Windows update allowing our gaming desktops/laptops to finally have a clutter free windows...

This ROG Ally is just bad with an IPS screen and a off the shelf chip..

So how much are they likely to be?
$600 and $800 is my guess.

Ally X actually just got a $100 price increase a few weeks ago due to tariffs. I think it's $900 now. But it also has 32GB of RAM. And the Xbox Ally X only has 24. I dunno about the spec comparison to the rest. Likely similar.

So a subpar brand (only blind fanboy admit otherwise) on a commercially subpar machine on a niche market that will be swallowed by Switch 2 until the end of the year (some people say that will be before holiday, i don believe it yet) that cannot and will be not subsized by virtual stores is MS savior on game market? ok :-D

PC gaming and Nintedo kid stuff are too different markets.

Not in game quality it won't.
I'm not going to argue but do you realize how many games of how many platforms you can play on the Ally? Even the modern games that are ommited tower and shadow the giant amount of games the Switch 2 will miss. I've said this since just about the Gamecube days.

This has been the same song and dance from Nintendo since the practically the Wii. Not enough to stand above PC or the other 2 platforms. It's a good complimentary device these days but many of the PC handhelds tear it up.....like 2 years ago or more (even spec wise)

If priced competitively and assuming it can run steam games decently, this could be a crazy good handheld.
Xbox games, Steam games, emualtors (possibly---maybe even a Switch emulator) and I'd definitely be in the market for this.

"Nintendo kid stuff"? That's how we're analyzing 152 million systems sold, eh? I don't think the "Nintendo kiddy market" you're referencing exists anymore, i think it's far larger and lots of diverse appetites across a large demographic of younger, middle-aged, and older gamers.

Looks great! I'm very interested.

Hilarious to see how Gaf's hatred of all things Microsoft is colouring their assessment of this device. Oh well.

Looks good. I hope it's around 350-400 euro.
They did their best at avoiding giving a price. Why do you think that is?
The existing ROG Ally and ROG Ally X retail at $649.99 and $799.99. They didn't want the negative press with this show by announcing a price. The PS5 Pro got a lot of negative coverage at $699.

I wonder if Anus will launch a handheld with Steam OS, or if they have a deal with Microsoft and will use windows forever!

Exclusives are king.

So a toaster that makes more burnt bread.
No OLED on either of them. *sigh*
I don't think a 120hz OLED portable screen exists besides the phone ones?
Price will be the key. Well it will be expensive for sure compared to switch 2.

Sure. It's much more powerful too.

True. Well technically this will be Switch 2 competition for the handheld market while still waiting for PSP revival.

PC gaming and Nintedo kid stuff are too different markets.
This is niche market priced so will be far from competition to S2.
I do think it could fare better than steam deck did which is a improvement I guess.

Has this been posted?

This seems great. I want it. And I want that boot into Xbox with all stores available in the UI on my PC too.

I find my steam deck is mostly a streaming device from my pc these days. playing some low graphic games locally is nice. I wonder if I have a use case for this. Excited tho! Really am rooting for an xbox hit.

My issue with this is basically same issue with all these PC handhelds,

They mostly play the games I can already play in other consoles..... the reason I buy any system it has games that cant get it anywhere else.

I already have PS5 for most mutiplatform games and I have Switch 2 for its first and 3rd party exclusives.
These handhelds are aimed towards people who already game on PC. But want to play them in another form factor (not tied to desktop) or on the go. I think of devices like these like an extension of their Steam library that they can take anywhere. Its a bit like the PS Portal but cranked to 11.

You could jump in fresh though and pick up some excellent deals on games and even get weekly or monthly free games via Epic Games Store and Amazon Prime. Then there's Humble Bundles, key websites that you can find games much cheaper than on PSN/Xbox/Nintendo.

There is no PSP revival. There will never be a Sony handheld with a proprietary library ever again. It'll be a squeezed-down PS5 with semi-bad battery life.
If you want to get semantic then sure, but PSP simply stands for PlayStation Portable and the rumored device would quite literally be a PlayStation Portable.

Do these things need FSR4 to be a bit future proof? Seems these will be outdated in a year.
I don't think any of the mobile AMD APUs are RDNA4 so no FSR4.

Edit: Forgot a 4

Yup this definitely aimed at PC players since they don't mind digital only system.

I'm a console gamer so these PC handhelds are useless to me.
