Splatoon |OT| Squidstyler

yeah I think the friend option coming in august will alleviate some of the complaints, even if it doesn't have voice chat. the teamwork in this game is largely improvised so being on a team where you can trust your mates to make the right choices is more important than being able to verbally communicate, I would think. everything happens so quick that by the time you actually say something out loud the window to act on it is probably gone. I think most of the strategies will either be predetermined by load outs and a team's play style or improvised on the spot to what's happening.
All they need to add is pinging, arrow drawing and a D-Pad message that reads "STOP SUPER JUMPING INTO ENEMY TERRITORY YOU FUCKING MORONS"

I have to agree that I'm fine with voice chat & that if anything, makes it easier to jump in so I don't have to hear random strangers.

Plus, come on, what would you voice chat about?

"YO, SEE THAT INK THAT'S NOT OUR COLOR!?"

"YEAH!"

"COVER IT UP, YO!"

"GOT IT!"

It would be more useful in ranked mode, but that mode would be mostly angry swearing anyway

The Recon ability really helps with this. I can see if someone in enemy territory is fighting someone and wait til they win to super jump to them

Inkbrush should be cool. I'm not a roller type but this seems even more fun than simple roller.

I just whooped a group of mostly Level 20 Japanese players an hour ago, and i'm level 13 (and by whooped i mean i came in first for my team). Oh and i'm C-.

Also, level means nothing.

Yes, but still it's the most simple way to see if someone is better. Of course it's not corresponding always to the truth but it's an indicator. The game is supposed to put at the same game people of nearly equal levels.

Ink Brush should be good. I haven't experimented much with weapons as I have been killing it with a roller but this may make for a great alternative.

After several hours I've essentially resigned myself to the fact that the Roller is the only way I'm gonna get kills consistently for my first few ranks.

Splatoon in Smash?
Almost...

That looks awful.

Finally sat down and started the single player. Wow. Cleared the first two areas (worlds?)

I think I may like this even more than the multiplayer. Regardless, perfect compliment to it. I still don't entirely understand how you're supposed to collect scrolls (I've gotten 1 from each boss and 1 accidentally from a normal level)

And the best part is how awesome the Brush's loadout is. This is going to be an ink covering machine.

Seriously just should've kept the Mii faces. The hair, outfit, & weapons were good enough.

Also now I want a Swordfighter outfit involving the Inkbrush.

That looks awful.

I'm almost certain that it is still a Mii face. This is a costume for the Mii gunner. Just for promo, Nintendo made a Mii with a face as close as they could get it to an inkling face, which just didn't quite work. Don't worry, you can still have cute Mii faces that will look better than that.

Basically, there's one hidden on each stage that kind of goes into the "history" and help with the world building. I don't think there's any reward for collecting them all, though, but it's still interesting to see what each page looks like & says.

The ones you get from bosses are just blueprints for more weapons for multiplayer.

What I've been doing is using The Completionist's video guide to show me where each of the scrolls are.

On non-boss levels, they are in orange boxes, usually hidden in good places. Look around.

I wonder if the fact I tend to get a few Japanese players per match is the reason why I tend to lag.

Tbh I would be yelling at people standing in front of my charges all the time

Plus you win the big bucks in that mode! 50% win ratio is a net win in relation to turf wars
Yes if you get a total knockout win and the match goes on for less than 3 minutes it is more efficient than turf war giving 1800 (at C- if you're A+ it is more like 4500 I hear) assuming an average of 900 for the turf wars. But the problem is my win rate is more like 33% (leaving me stuck in place in C-) and matches go on for longer than 3 minutes but not quite make it into overtime so I end up getting way less. Except frustration and anger, I get bags of that.

It is silly. I really don't care when it comes to Mario Kart but Splatoon ranked mode just makes me want to break my Gamepad at times so I stay away as I'd like to not have to send that in (especially as NOE are shit and will charge me more for the repair than I can find a basic Wii U used for).

The costume is fine. It's just the face of the Mii they made isn't.

Yeah, I know it is the face. The costume looks fine, but the face kind of spoils it. It is a nice addition though, but I will be waiting for the actual Inkling to be playable some day.

Just finished the final boss in the campaign, having spent pretty much the entire battle only a single death away from having to start over. Amazing boss design, but holy crap, that difficulty spike. I don't think anything else in the campaign came anywhere close to being that nail-biting.

Great campaign overall, with lots of variety and interesting mechanics. I really hope we get a sequel some day; you can tell the designers have a ton more creative ideas up their sleeves.

Just before it's First Week Anniversary, is today going to be the day OT2 starts?

Yeah it looks like it.

Even though the posting has slowed down a bit I don't think I'm going to hold off another night if the full quota isn't met, so let's give it another 9-10 hours at most before we pull the plug.

Oh you know what would be super rad?

Melee swing with the inkbrush sprays your latest Miiverse post onto the world.

The most efficient player would use a fully black screen, but everyone else would have all kinds of fun with it.

Playing with randoms I have seen consistently that the team who gets the low level players lose almost every time. If they're 13 or lower is a good indicator, with loss being more likely with lower levels. It could just be a coincidence but it would be one amazing coincidence. It would be nice if the game tried to match equally skilled players in turf wars but how they have it set up now with the level 20 cap there won't be a way to sort, unless its secretly keeping track of wins and loses, average points per game etc.

The Inkbrush is coming today? Awesome, can't wait to try it.

What's going to be the OT2 title? Walls don't count or Prepare to Dye Edition? Or maybe the Dreamcast Game one?

If they do implement voice chat I am ok with that as long as they give us a easy option to mute everyone or just turn it off.

Currently Prepare to Dye Edition is coasting the lead in the Strawpoll but it's still a super close race.

I'll go with whichever one has the most votes when I make the new OT.

I like this idea, but wouldn't count on it

Wow, the inkbrush tonight. I hope the frequency of these updates continues. I'm very pleased with this game. Hopefully we get a new map next week.

Prepare for brush nerf Monday.

All they need to add is pinging, arrow drawing and a D-Pad message that reads "STOP SUPER JUMPING INTO ENEMY TERRITORY YOU FUCKING MORONS"

I wish they would let you pre_load the dpad from a host of stock phrases.
