Gametrailers HD Review - 6.9

IGN's Review - 7.3

Gamespot Review - 7.5

Eurogamer Review - 7.5

Chris Kohler's Wired Review - 5/10

Overall in the "Good" catagory

IGN Reviews:

PS2 Version - 7.2

PSP Version - 7.5

Am slightly annoyed that the PSP extra features are never mentioned outside of "but the extra modes unique to the PSP offer some replayability." in the lasting appeal section. :(

It was interesting to learn (from a Penny Arcade write-up) that the character you play in the demo is a later-game version; far more powerful than what you start with.

Playing God of (Star) Wars is a keen idea but I'll wait until it gets cheap.

That's akin to the Crackdown demo, which made your character upgrade hundreds of times faster than you would in the final game. You wouldn't want the demo to just be a tutorial, would you? :P

That PA bit really surprised me. Since i hoped that the upgraded character would actually be fun to play later on in the game. HAHA apparently i am completely wrong.

Edit: So many what are supposed to be AAA games are falling into the average category.

These are exactly the kind of review ratings I expected after playing the demo. Might pick it up because I like the premise.

Sure, but still. I feel like the average quality of many of these games is much higher than it was in previous generations, where most games in the 6-7 category would be really meh. This generation, many games with these kind of scores still seem to be fun experiences. It's like the average quality is rising.

Gametrailers verdict:
Story: 8.4
Design: 6.5
Gameplay: 7.0
Presentation: 7.2

Overall: 6.9
How do they do that? An average is way above 6.9

And complaining about level variety? Wtf, all the themes look extremely different, how many games have that. And nowhere in the interview they mention the amazing graphics and physics, just the downside of both. And the lack of "back-up tech with substence" wtf?

And design 6.5, presentation 7.2? http://image.com.com/gamespot/images/2008/255/reviews/933155_20080912_screen004.jpg COME ON

I also love the contradictions. GT says the sound isn't all that, IGN says it's amazing; Gamespot says, I quote "This is the best Star Wars story in years.", while IGN says it's nice and GT hardly mentions it; IGN praises the cutscenes, while GT bashes them; etc.

I liked the vibe off the demo. Too bad the monies are sitting outside of my wallet. Not that it was a buy but if I had disposable income I might give it a rent at least. Sounds like this is a 7 anyways but that isn't bad.

I am not saying they are bad games, but i would rather rent them than own them.

What happened to Official Threads?
no one expressed interest in making one....so figure a reviews thread was better than the "Star Wars Screenshots" thread that won't stop getting bumped

rush job. day NONE

it could have been great

See, to me it doesn't feel like a rush job. It just has a feel that this really was the best they could come up with. We kept hearing that they wanted to make a game where you could "Kick ass with the force" but they never actually went into details on how to do that, apart from having lots of glass environments, doors which do little more than buckle when you press B and rooms filled with a variety of boxes.

I wasn't expecting that much from the game, I had a feeling it was going to land slap-bang in the middle of "Decidedly Average" territory. Without a multiplayer mode I imagine that after Xmas stores will be full to the brim of pre-owned copies, which is when second hand prices should plummet and I'll happily pick it up (£10 or less, no more)

TheForce.net posted some excerpts from ONM's review of the game for the Wii. Here they are:

The good:
On the Wii's controls:
"The game punishes you by making sure that simply flicking the remote down all the time never leads to any smooth lightsaber combat, as a result it forces you to mix your swings to make combat flow better. This may seem like bad game design but in fact it's a clever way of forcing the player to feel more like they're actually fighting with a lightsaber."

On Force Unleashed powers:
"There's a great sense of power felt when you can avoid fighting someone on Cloud City if you simply use the force to pick them up and fling them off the edge of a platform."

"The main highlight for us is lifting the enemy up with the Force then throwing our lightsaber at them, impaling them as they float in the air."

"Simply put, this game gives you lots of power."

The bad:
On Force powers:
"There's not a huge difference between the Apprentice's abilities at first and those he has by the time the story reaches its final chapter."

On gameplay:
"Dying has effectively no impact on your progress. If you die, you simply respawn at the last checkpoint and all the enemies you killed remain dead."

"Instead of tactically planning how you're going to enter a room, the temptation's too strong to simply jump in there, get stuck in, kill a few of them, die, then jump back in and kill the rest."

"What disappointed us more was what happened about six hours into the game: it ended."

"...ultimately it's heartbreakingly short."

On the exclusive two-player duel mode:

"The game's lifespan is increased slightly with the Wii-only Duel mode and if you find a similarly skilled mate it's ace."

"The Duel mode is a nice little addition to the game and gives is some much-needed longevity, though it's a shame there's no option to fight against CPU-controlled opponents."

maybe they think design is more important than the other things. maybe different reviewers have different opinions. graphics, sound, story... all those things are subjective.

Eurogamer complained for 2 pages about the difficulty before letting slip they were playing on the second easiest setting. What do you think they put the option in for you tards?

is this the game which had the incredible engine videos of how wood breaks naturally and how the people react differently and grab hands, etc?

I think I am going to pick this up on the PSP. I am interested in the story but not the game play. Maybe playing it on the toilet will help me overlook the shitty game play.

how'd you reach that conclusion? to even warrant a 7 means at least one key area has serious failings.
7 isn't a bad score. i mean, there'll be plenty of people that can see past any failing it has that will love the heck out of it.

at a 7 you've got to accept that you'll have people that are really positive and others that are really negative about it. those flaws may be like nails on a chalk board for some that will never get past them, and others just may genuinely not care remotely about the problems.

Yes, but I didn't really notice any of that in the demo. If anything, I felt most of the stuff I saw and did could've been pulled off by any other good physics engine as well.

Also, I was just thinking about this. Honestly, the combat in this game hardly feels any different from
using the Super GravGun
in HL2. The mechanics are basically the same, as well as the tactics you tend to use.

Sounds about right going by the demo. It's just not that good. Decent, but there's plenty of other stuff coming that might be worth the money.

they complained about a lot of things, not just the difficulty. And it was the default difficulty setting, which shouldn't be that easy

great review, in fact

This game just screams "average", like all of Lucasarts recent output. Will probably pick it up eventualy used or when it's available for a budget price.

Too bad. I was really looking forward to this game untill the demo.

No matter the reviews, it doesn't change the fact that this game will sell huge, and that the developers are all unemployed.

On gameplay:
"Dying has effectively no impact on your progress. If you die, you simply respawn at the last checkpoint and all the enemies you killed remain dead."

Look, a Prey clone. Pass!

My fears were correct.
“Fear is the path to the dark side. Fear leads to anger. Anger leads to hate. Hate leads to suffering.”

Too bad this game isn't sounding as great as it was hyped up to be. I love how a magazine/website will hype up a game to be the best thing since sliced bread, then give it an average review. I guess this won't be a game that I'll be "suffering" through.
