Star Wars: The Old Republic |OT| EA: "Let's blow this thing and go home!"

if any of you are thinking of rolling sniper

this site is really good

Thanks for this. I feel like the Operative gets all the attention, but I'm really loving my Sniper. I've only focused on Marksmanship so far but I'm interested in fooling with the other skill trees.

Dont have that. Operative.
I feel like I see Operatives do alright in PvP, but maybe it's just the high end ones and I don't notice. They can dish out a lot of damage, and stealth classes seem to do well. I'm a Sniper though, so I can't really speak from first hand experience.

i keep hearing how IA is so powerful but i have never, ever, ever felt powerful at anything with my IA. i get killed in world pvp 1v1 against players 3-6 levels lower than me within seconds. In fact, now that i think of it.. i have never managed to kill anyone 1v1 ever, even with getting the drop on them.

Speaking of agents: Debating on re-rolling my level 20 sniper and going operative instead. I just feel like I'm too focused as Sniper. I can't do anything other than sit back and shoot. I have zero other ability to do anything and it is getting a bit boring. Can higher level operatives/snipers give me some insight? Hopefully it'll help me make up my mind.

"I always thought the Hutts were revolting" ahhh my Agent has a good sense of humour alright.

Hit level 30 on my Operative, managed to discover my first purple schematics from reverse engineering some blue gloves I made and I still need to finish the story quest on Nar, which is now grey. Maybe I shouldn't have gone off and followed the bonus quest side.

As an operative, you're Solid Snake.

Just imagine you can complete missions without even killing anyone.
Need to take what's in that crate? Sleep dart the Elite level mob and take it, then stealth.

I play a healer, which is incredible. I can sneak past every mob and solo a champion level enemy. Really feels like a secret agent.

If you are a completionist like me, it will only get worse in terms of you outleveling stuff. Towards the end I started skipping stuff that was not class quest or planet story related and I hit 50 on Voss. Going to be annoying to go back to do stuff like Corellia's planet storyline.

I just hit 40 on my Sniper. It's mostly sitting back and shooting, but you can really hit hard with that and dump out a lot of damage. When you get crits rolling things get pretty absurd. On hard fights I still have to get in close and disrupt though with stuns, knockback, and interrupts. I'm pretty happy with the class, and while it's tempting to reroll Operative because of how strong they seem right now I think the Sniper is going to fare better in groups in the long run. I already do more damage than pretty much anyone else when I group up by a good margin.

Why would you uninstall? The install is fucking HUGE. lol

I play on a Vaio Z2, it only has 128gb sdd drive, only has 60ish free and the game takes up a good chunk of that.

Deleteing it seemed smarter then delete my char or chucking my laptop across the room.

Think I'll just take a break from my JK untill they fix the encounter or GAF guild gets enough lvl 50 JK and we can all hit it togther.

That sounds awesome!

... But don't you lack exp/levels if you're just running past mobs? Or do you get experience for running past them?

Uh, and I still didn't put my retail version code in... Guess I'll wait until some sort of spring break or something.

How long does getting to lv 50 actually take?

I guess it depends how much you play and if you're not an Alt-a-holic. A month is about right I think, some people do it in less then 2 weeks.

As a scoundrel: in a conversation some boss is like "time to die" and attacks you, ending the conversation. As soon as the conversation is over you just stealth before the fight starts, and ambush him at your leisure. So nice.

First night I've spent using my mouse for movement. Boy is it weird, and oh jeez is it difficult to get used to.But even though I'm absolutely awful with it, I can already tell it's going to be for the best after a couple weeks of training my muscle memory.

I absolutely love this game, and am a total nerd. But even when I have a whole day free, I'm just someone who can't put more than about 3 or 4 hours into a single game in one day. I get too bored to easily.

Playing "intensely" but not "ridiculously", I'd say you can hit lvl50 in 4-6 weeks.

I've gotten on just about every day since the 13th. Have only done my one main (no alts), and put in an hour on some days, and 3 or 4 on other days. I just finished Act I and am level 34. so take that fwiw.

I've repeatedly ganked republic players a few levels higher than me with my sniper. So fun being able to dish out massive damage!

I'm enjoying my sniper quite a bit. While it's primarily about shooting at range at single targets, you get a decent AoE with Suppression Fire for normal mobs (Kaliyo tanking helps with that). But it's all about how to maximize your damage output, chaining attacks properly so that as your target dies you can continue on the next one without missing a beat, and all while still trying to have decent energy going. You can easily dish out several thousand points of damage within a couple of seconds if all your crits hit.

I never really felt weak when trying Scrapper DPS (which I think is Concealment on the other side), but I will say there is an enormous difference between level 35 and level 36. At level 36 you get a proper stealth opener, which you can talent to cause a 3 second knockdown. It hits like a truck and gives you a free window to pummel someone further, while also granting you a stack of UH (or TA for Operatives) so you can immediately do a Back Blast -> Sucker Punch combo. It does make a big difference.

From that level and up things seem to scale up fast, and quite frankly probably too much. We are pretty overpowered as DPS in PvP at 50 once Expertise comes into play.

Perhaps it's not the class, but the player playing the class.

You can see that it can be utilized amazingly well.

(Sorry for the brostep. Can't fucking escape that shit.)

I'm starting to actually like the space combat stuff a fair bit as it gets more challenging you get more upgrades and the set pieces get pretty impressive, I hope they follow through with expanding upon it.

2-3 months for normal people. Gaf plays a crap ton more than normal. i have a 50 hour a week job and game as much as i can. I wont make 50 for another month and im on vacation for a week.

Just tried it against a normal mob, didn't seem to work. Couldn't find an elite nearby to test on though.

Seems like something that could get quickly patched though.

Works in flashpoints on bosses that are interruptable. Hope they fix this along with toning

After doing some pvp I've noticed that even though your stats are boosted, it still puts you at a severe disadvantage to a level 50 in terms of talent points and gear. Sure you're boosted but it's just like traditional mmo's that give such a buff only so that you get 2-3 shotted instead of just one.

I was in the middle of a gauntlet in a BH mission fighting an elite. I'll probably be dead when I get back on. :\

I finished Voss tonight and got to level 48. I also finally got a hotrigged speeder schematic from slicing. I would drop slicing now, but those lockboxes I find in the wild have a lot of money in them. I think it's worth it just for that.

I saw this dude wearing a custom (orange name) black trench coat called RD-04B Sharpshooter Jacket. Does anyone know if that's on a vendor or a random drop? I tried searching TOR Head and stuff, but didn't see anything. I'd like to get one for Mako.

As funny as it is, I would not do this in this game even just to mess around with how ban-happy Bioware/EA have proved when it comes to minor trespasses.

Uhh, nothing yet suggests they are really that ban-happy. They banned some actual gold farmers, and gave temp bans to some people using exploits. Temp bans are not that bad

I just created a Bounty Hunter to play with some friends on another server and holy shit is it ever a fun class to play. Especially compared to the Jedi Shadow I've been rolling with since I first bought the game. The range at which I can strike enemies with the Bounty Hunters missiles and darts is easily double any of my Shadows force abilities, it's crazy.

I had no real feel for what a Consular was by the time I hit lvl 10 and could choose my specialisation (really wish I went Sage instead of Shadow), that isn't the case with Bounty Hunter. With this new character I'm definitely going healer.

Was it dark, or white with brown trim? There's a dark coat that I'm pretty certain is a random drop (or a random loot from the blue lockbox rewards). There's a white version that you can get from Maelstrom Prison that looks like this:

Yeah, I'm pretty sure it is the random one then. Think it will only show up as random world loot or out of a blue lockbox in whatever level range it falls under (mid to late 30s maybe). The belt in that pic is from the same world drop orange set.

Hmm. Sounds about right. I guess I'll just have to watch the GTN for it. I doubt I'd be lucky enough to get it trying to farm world chests.

The first six players or so he killed were lvl 17 and .. uhm 23? Sorry but what a shit vid.

If you watch it for more than a second, there are 50's in there too.

I never claimed that this was an amazing video(He back pedals FFS), but merely demonstrative of how the class is not gimped - as a few of the people in this thread are inclined to believe about multiple classes.

Obviously Imperial Agent and. . .

Jedi Knight:

But don't play it, yet.

The JK Sent is way underpowered, and makes a lot of the solo quests a massive chore. Either your "main" companion needs to have a heal, or your char needs more HP. Because as it is, the JK Sent is WAY too squishy.

Lol, Huttball can be such a clusterfuck sometimes...

It's not the class being under powered or poor design. It's likely you and the way you play it.

I have played a Jedi Knight to 30 on the US Gaf server and never did I feel under powered.

Edit: Sorry Triss, it really looks like I am coming after you. It's not personal, and I just think that perhaps we shouldn't be swaying people from a class they might enjoy just because we aren't very good with it.

It's cool, I don't take it personally at all :)

Here's my thoughts on the matter. ToR is my first MMO, so naturally, I *don't* know what I'm doing when it comes to advanced stuff. I'm really trying to learn as I go, and with that I know things will naturally be difficult at times. That said, I'm a big gamer, play a variety of genres, and am part of the GAF guild that has given me quite a bit of advice/tips about the game. So, compared to the MMO people, I may be inexperienced; but compared to the millions of "joe schmoes" that will pick this up, I know I'm better.

I know I'm not playing correctly in PvP, and I also know that things are hard when facing lvl 50s, regardless of class.

But most my frustration comes from the PvE story stuff. And when it comes to that, it's agreed by many here, and even more on the official class forums, that some of the story bosses are almost impossible unless you either 1) prepare for them ahead of time (which spoilers story stuff) or 2) you "trick" the AI into following you into weird paths. There are 100s of complaints on the class forums about the class feeling weak.

And in my opinion, there are probably similar amounts of "novices" playing every class, but it seems the focus is only on a couple for being "underpowered." Maybe they are, maybe they aren't. But either way, it's hard to recommend for the time being *IF* you don't have the patience for some pretty ridiculous difficulty spikes.

Just my two cents. I've been told a few times I just don't know how to play the class... and even if that is the case, that unquestionably means to me, then, that other classes are objectively easier to play; as I've messed with a couple of my friends' classes.
