Star Wars: The Old Republic |OT| EA: "Let's blow this thing and go home!"

I'm not sure that is the reason, because Smugglers still have a companion that uses sniper rifles.

That was definitely the reason from what people in beta said, maybe just cause he's the 'first' one and they want him to be more easily upgradeable? Or they're just inconsistent and bad at this shit (more likely answer). Either way it's just kind of silly from a lore perspective, because sniper rifles and cannons are so similar. He still casts snipe and his dps stance is 'sniper mode' and stuff too heh.

Smuggler companion Risha uses sniper rifles, despite being republic. I grabbed an orange one off of a commendation vendor. You can do the same for any of the staff/blade-using companions. Orange gear is easy to maintain. No problem sticking aim armoring and mod into a vibroblade / techblade whatever.

Are there even any orange weapons that our characters can't use?
Like orange technblades for Qyzen or vibroblades for Bowdaar?

The characters that use standard weapons are easy enough to gear with hand-me-downs.
Yes. I gave both Risha and Bowdar orange weapons.

There should be plenty of orange techblades. i think there are a couple from different planet commendations and i think there are a few for PvP. Afaik the only weapons that do not have orange are secondary weapons like Vibroknives and Scatterguns.

And giving gear hand-me-downs to companions is fine but never, ever, ever do that with weapons. Purple hilts/barrels always and theyll be tearing stuff up. Even healers get a huge increase from the extra Power those turbocharged mods give.

Interesting. I guess I just never really paid much attention when I was looking at commendation vendors? Or I'm blind. Or stupid. Or all of the above.

Well, each planet only has a few specific slots that their commendation vendor will be able to fill. There's only a few that have main hand orange weapons as possible purchases.

I don't get companion loot. The guy uses melee only. He is CLEARLY a tank yet all his specific gear has bloody Aim and other crap for a Bounty Hunter. He has nearly no strength and he's a tank. wtf?

It's so he can wear Trooper armor, assuming you are talking about Qyzen.

Arg I wish I could change my legacy name...might ask a GM if he could do it for me! :p

When would you guys say the IA story line starts to get good? I just got to Tatooine and while it's been kinda cool so far it definitely hasn't been as good as I was expecting. Still fun though.

Act 2 is where the IA story heats up james bond style

I thought some of the companion weapons are moddable (even though they are green)? I could have sworn I added a new hilt to Bowdaar's first sword. On another note, Bowdaar's quest reward sword around level 40 is crazy looking. I don't think I've seen a normal toon with anything like it (probably because everyone has lightsabers and not vibroswords)

Speaking of which - can I choose to use a vibroblade instead of a light saber?
I mean if I can get an orange one. I prefer the look of some of the vibroblades. Light sabers are some of the most boring weapons ever... It's just a featureless light stick.

Zzzzzzzz.

World PVP is such a disappointment in this game. I'm almost level 31 and have encountered 2 republic players, and neither of them wanted to fight me.

what a joke

Imperial Storm Trooper

you know, the iconic white guys :)

They went with clone trooper style instead. The imperial soldiers used to be named troopers and also originally looked similar to grey stormtroopers but they switched it around and went with the clone wars style republic. It's good they did, as without troopers the republic would lose a very important iconic look/class to the Empire which already has too much player favor.

Tech progression in Star Wars makes zero fucking sense.

Stormtroopers are tech progression?

Well, no, but considering there are three thousand years between the two, it is a bit funny how similar the Old Republic's troopers are to the Clonetroopers/Stormtroopers from the films.

Tech ceiling?

I dunno. At the time in which TOR takes place, the galaxy has hyperspace travel, laserbeam swords, and near-sentient droids. How far CAN tech go after that? ._.

Thinking of new classes they could add... hmm...

How about some kind of officer class? Could fill the "bard" niche with team buffs. Republic Captain, Imperial Captain.

Starfighter Pilot would be pretty nifty too, though not sure how it would fit.

Hold on, friend! I'd love to share with you some swell news about the Windows 8 Metro UI! Wait, where are you going?

Well that's the catch 22. If they make it during the time period of the films they're very limited, so they move it FAR back in history. Logically things should look very different so far back in time but if nothing is similar to the films then it no longer feels like "Star Wars". If anything the prequels look more high tech than TOR does :p

I think KOTOR got to close to regular SW look. I like that TOR has brought back some of the more outrageous looking armor and clothing with lot of fantasy elements involved as it fits more in line with what Dark Horse did with the Old Republic era.

PvE server or PvP? I had a blast today, finally reached Tatooine and Dune Sea, which is really the first time Imps/Republic are put directly in the same zone. Had so much fun running around and gunning down Imps. Then I ganked some poor Sorcerer while questing in the area. Now I'm on Alderaan, people say there are a lot of them here. Can't wait!

Yea I wish it tied in with the Tales of the Jedi comics rather than making it Bioware's remake of the Star Wars saga

Not sure if this was posted: http://www.computerandvideogames.com/332031/interviews/star-wars-old-republic-11-weve-already-got-people-working-on-content-for-2013/

Some update 1.2 info:

- New end game planet is called Denova which will have a new Operation and a new warzone
- Will include the full Legacy system
- Legacy system will allow you designate alts as siblings, friends, spouses etc
- Legacy system will give you bonus skills and perks
- They already have some content being worked on for 2013, some is even playable though no voice yet

More at the link.

As for end game content, I'm probably in the minority but since I'm not a big raider I'm hoping to see a lot of "fluff" content added. Pazaak and gambling has been mentioned but I would love to see stuff like ship decorations. Going further I would love to be able to build custom ships and have them paintable, upgradable and decoratable (I think I made that word up). They have the right the right idea with datacrons (I refuse to use guides for them, I want to take the time to find them myself, that's half the fun), I would like to see more "treasure hunt" stuff like that added. SWG had some great ideas with collections, items that you could get as random drops that would give you a nice item or decoration once you got the whole set. Add rare crafting items etc. Give people a reason to do FPs and Ops besides gear grinding.

I really, really want to make my Light Side Sith Juggernaut and Dark Side Jedi Shadow mortal enemies.

Make it happen, Legacy System.

Game runs as admin to detect teh hax.

They've never said exactly why they think they need their game to run as admin. No other game I've played for the past 5 years does.

They moved the running as admin in beta, as I understand it, to fix some problems people were having with the game running out of the standard install location (C:\Program Files (x86)). As someone who's never run the game out of there, it frustrates me to no end that Bioware insists on running an elevated process. It's simply unnecessary, and dangerous to your computer (though arguably safer to your SWTOR account).

Last night was the first time I've logged into the game and no one was in the GAF Republic guild. I hope the guild doesn't die after only a month....

I have a question regarding stats.

I have a lvl 23 Smuggler specced into Gunslinger. The main stat for smuggler seems to be cunning which raises Tech type abilities but I've noticed alot of my abilities are ranged which would seem to be based on the Aim stat.

I've been gearing towards increasing cunning, should I be switching over to aim?

No.

Your primary attribute takes care of everything. SWTOR simplifies it with regards to WoW - each class got their own attribute they stack, which effect all of their abilities, both damage and healing. It doesn't matter what type the attack is, what matters is your class.

Having said that Smuggler's mirror class - IA - has Aim for one advanced class, and Cunning for the other, so you might want to check. I think you made a mistake of gearing Cunning with Gunslinger.

I am having bad luck with RNG on champion bags. I have opened about 40 bags so far and have gotten 2 ear pieces, 1 implant, so I went ahead and bought the centurion chest piece and got the Champion chest piece on my next bag last night, doh hehe.

Has anyone wrote about the state of each class?

I thought I read people saying there were problems with Jedi Knight?

And from my own testing, Smuggler/Bounty Hunter seems like it'll take a while to get used to the cover.

For those who are interested, comparison of Trooper and IA story up till level 33 (mid-Alderaan):

IA sucks donkey balls.

People are saying the story gets great later, but you finish Act I being lvl 33-34, so the story should at least hold all the way. As IA we are tasked with destroying terrorist cells across galaxy, bla bla bla, boring. Really, what more is there? The terrorists are lame.

Trooper chases after his former squad mates. Included in entrance fee: bust in Imperial prison, bust in Imperial base, etc. Not to mention each planet is different to due connection with former squad member. First planet was more about biotechnology, Tatooine was all about explosives. etc.

The only drawback? Republic planets suck big time. Taris OMFG

My brother is playing Jedi Guardian "hard mode" - no healer. Up to lvl 34 now, no problems.

That's false. ALL IA and ALL smugglers use Cunning. Aim is purely BH/trooper.

They all still gain from those other stats, but the 'primary' stat raises literally everything.
If you know a sniper that is gearing for aim, they're doing it wrong.

Trooper Storyline is great for where you're at. Keep going and it becomes generic action movie time. Still fun, but it does nothing compelling beyond act 1.
