I hope we will see FF7 Rebirth, Rise of Ronin, Silent Hill 2 and Stellar Blade again. Kojima also seemed to be hinting at a new trailer for DS2.
This stuff + the Spiderman 2 previews on the first party front would make a great week for gaming updates.
Death stranding is a first party game though. Sony owns thE ip even if a third party is making it.

Maybe its my wishful thinking but hoping Vanillaware and Yoko Taro announce their new game on this show but my guess even they do want to announce their games it will be TGS rather than this sate of play.

At very least give Elden RING DLC trailer and release date.

Represent.

Represent(ative) of bad opinions
I don't get some of the reactions. I love first party stuff, but I also love indies and third party. I want to know what good stuff is coming out to play regardless.
It would be fine if they had anything announced beyond spiderman 2

All they have mentioned is they have 12,000 live service games in the making.

Ridiculous. Announce a traditional SP AAA game or at least say they haven’t given up on that model

What's wrong with third parties and Indies? You guys are weird.
I don't mind but at the same time, the discontent mainly stems from them shitting the bed with their Showcase this year first party wise. And that was after taking a year off so you know folks were highly anticipating it only to be met with that garbage.

Sony doesn't have anything to show. They have 18 studios, most of which are working on games with 6 - 8 year development cycles. That means studios who are 4 - 6 years into their next game still aren't ready for a reveal.

3rd parties and indies are an attempt to cover that fact up a little bit.
6 - 8 years cycles = 1 game per gen, thats sad

PS3 cycle ( these are the games that i remember from the top of my head )

3 Uncharteds
2 Killzones
2 God of War
1 Demon Souls
2 Infamous
2 LBP
3 Motors Sport
4 Ratchets
3 Resistence

I am convinced that Sony is just doing this to force me to have a full blown meltdown and get myself permabanned. There is no other explanation for this.

Yeah, i have no expectation that Sony can end this year with a real BOOM.

3 years into PS5 cycle and Sony released what ? Returnal, Ratchet, Demons Souls and Spider-Man 2 ? thats it ? 3 years and just 4 games from Sony first party ? Oh "it was Covid fault" at this reat we ll hear this excuse until 2050

genDesign are supposed to announce their new game this year. If they're not waiting for The Game Awards, this seems like a good occasion. Considering it's a Japanese studio and TGS is happening soon, why not?

They actually never said that, most of their unannounced games are not live service. They've actually announced very few live games anyway.

Weird.........for wanting to see some first party Sony game announcements that ain't GaaS for the first time since....when? 2021? That's weird?

I understand you guys, I also want nothing more than to see Sony first party machine in action, but given the output of the major PS studios in the last years of the PS4, and given the amount of time AAA games are taking to come out, we all knew this would be a tough couple of more years..
Not only that, many important devs like Cory Barlog and Neil Druckmann have expressed how much they hate to announce their games way ahead of time and the pressure that puts the teams in. They probably had their way with the higher ups and now we're only getting announcements closer to the release dates.

It's because so many people complained in the PS3 era about announcing games years in advance. Now it's 12 months or less

Yup.
And Playstation as a platform and ecosystem has a duty to all of their partners, Third Party and Indies included. Our thirst to see first party games does nothing to their business.

Anything related to big 1st party titles will happen in a longer Showcase and *after* Spider-Man 2 releases, thought that would be obvious. Anyway, not expecting anything crazy but would be cool to get updates on Rebirth, Stellar Blade and Little Devil Inside.

What big third party games could they even show that haven't been announced already? I don't think there's gonna be any real surprises. We'll probably get release dates for games we already know about (Stellar Blade, Rise of the Ronin, Silent Hill 2, etc).

Last years State of Play ahead of TGS was really good. They revealed Tekken 8, Ishin, Stellar Blade (name reveal), Rise of the Ronin, and some indies... and capped it off with a God of War Ragnarok release date, all in 20 minutes. Will be hard to top that.

isn't clear to you by now ? they have nothing.

Sony is, just like every other western Devs, is affected by the useless woke people resulting longer development time than it should.

They also just released in the span of 2 years lots of big titles like Horizon and God of war and GT7. they have 2 or 3 more studios that didn't reveal their games yet ( aside from development hell like factions ) but the remaining studios are small support team or PC port teams.

The situation Sony is in has been brought upon themselves by bad management decisions under the leadership of Jim Ryan. I'd they didn’t decide to go all on on GAAS then the next couple years would be looking more promising. Everything he does is driven by maximizing profit at the expense of Sony's reputation as the publisher that focuses on blockbuster, graphical showcase single player games.

They're slowly becoming Bungie (in terms of the way that company does business). It's the reason they acquired and were willing to spend so much money on them. They want to adapt Bungies model of gaas for thesw upcoming projects. Having Naughty Dog focus on creating a TV show and a GaaS Factions 2 is another prime example. Having fucking Guerilla make a GAAS Horizon? Wtf.

Jim Ryan making Gran Turismo 7 and God of War fucking cross gen really grinds my gears. That fits in with Jim Ryan and his mentality. Sony has changed a lot since Ryan came in and we're now really gonna start seeing the fallout of this.

1: Stop paying overpriced Hollywood writers and VAs

2: Maybe start finding alternatives to using 3D models for every single part of the graphics pipeline that isn't a texture

3: Problem (somewhat) solved.
Game dev times are not long because they are paying hollywood VA to come in and record their lines for two days. The graphics pipelines have also advanced a lot recently and again, thats not the bottleneck.

The bottleneck is their fascination with making every open world game 50-100 hours long. Every single player game 30-40 hours long. Are we surprised that the devs who used to take 2 years to make 10-12 hour games in the PS3 era are now taking 5 years to make 50-60 hour games?

Its not like there is a 1:1 correlation between games being long and selling well. spiderman was 15 hours long and is their best selling game not named TLOU which was also 15 hours long. TLOU2 was 30 hours long and is still stuck at 9 million.

Maybe dont have your devs waste time on making multiplayer games that will never see the light of day a la Factions, the horizon mp game, whatever mp insomniac is working on, and all the other gaas trash they showed at E3. they are splitting up these studios resources when they are already struggling to ship games on time.

I’m sure many of the rocket scientists here at NeoGaf will manage to whine about the State of Play despite being told in advance it’s focusing on precisely announced third party and Indy games.

they're making a game for Epic

Yea I can't wait. They have teased it a couple times over the years. He said something about possible reveal in 2023
It's insane to think Ueda has been a director for almost 25 years and has only had 3 games released to date. :(
Just 2 years from SotC being 20 years old
