Ah, doesn't look like this is out on PS4 this week in the UK. At the moment, anyway. Looking forward to reading people's thoughts though, I am preparing for this to be my first (real) survival game.

Can't wait to get into the Story Mode today.

Spent a good part of last night moving all of my loot out of the Mystery Lake Camp Office in my ongoing sandbox game since the devs said your saves will probably break if you're holed up there and a couple other places in Mystery Lake once the update comes down for story mode.

This is probably one of the only survival games I've played and I really dig it. It's nice since in sandbox mode anyway, there are no other people, it's just you against mother nature. And the atmosphere is really great- the wind sound effects when you're trapped in a blizzard, the crunching of the snow, the ambient music that'll start up every once in a while- it's just refreshing to have a game like this that doesn't have zombies or other antagonistic NPCs mucking around... minus the overly aggressive wolves, I guess.

I mean, the sandbox mode is pretty complete, if you had any interest in that. This game has made huge strides since its early days in EA. In terms of seeing how a game develops over time, watching The Long Dark progress has been pretty neat, even just in the 1.5 or so years I've been playing it off and on.

This and Kerbal Space Program are the standard to which all EA games should be held, especially in terms of communication and meaningful updates/support

Will story mode have human enemies, be Road-esque? Never really followed the game's development

Good question, I dont recall them hinting at that so I'd be suprised if it did. I also think it would go against the man v nature theme and be an unnecessary distraction

Sounds like things are really screwed up on the Xbox store.

People who had the game in EA now can't launch it and the full game update isn't available

Hope they get it sorted quickly

I already own this on PC, but bought on PS4 Pro for comfy couch survival.

Played briefly at lunch, and must say performance is not great on PS4 Pro -- At night with a torch casting shadows inside a stone church, FPS was probably dipping into the low 20fps - mid-teens, which is a shame, because shadows don't even look good; very low res shadows and blocky edges. Will have to give it some more time after work, but if that's how the performance is going to be, I'll just play on PC.

Damn that's disappointing. The game runs at 4k max settings easily on my modest PC so I'd hoped for better on PS4

Same! It runs great on my PC with no issues, so I was hoping it'd look and run well on PS4 as well. This was a very limited experience, and performance was fine until I brought the torch out.

Decided to start with Survival on the medium most difficulty (the one under the Owl, I think) and it started me in a pitch black cabin, hahah. Thought my game had fucked up because I saw prompts, but nothing else. Finally got into my inventory, lit a match, and the cold bitterness came to life.

Game is brutal and I've only survived a day. Love it!

It's been on Xbox/PC for a while and I'm sure PS4 is a little different. Given its their first release for it I'll be patient, the support so far has been great so I'll be surprised if they abandon PlayStation users. Hopefully performance tweaks come once the launch madness settles

Yeah, I'm not too worried. I will give it time. I've had it on PC for over two years I think, and I come back to it every now and then to discover a lot of new maps and features. I will play more on PS4 when I get home from work. I'm sure I can get past the minor issues for now.

If you guys have trouble with the Rosehips part of one of the quests, make sure to check Raph's feed.

Seems a lot of people are getting stumped there.

To be fair to the devs they said for years that the game would be episodic. The info was always out there.

I'm not sure but I don't think so. It's really just a man vs nature kind of thing.

I don't remember how long ago I originally played this game, but I think I've had it since it launched in early access.

Game performance is pretty bad, and there's mouse acceleration that you can't disable which gets really annoying. I think those two reasons might be why I never really played the game all that much. Really disappointing to see that after all that time and an official release, there's still mouse acceleration. Nobody even asks for this feature.

Edit: Maybe don't take my word for the mouse acceleration thing. I could potentially be wrong, but when initially starting the game a short while before making this post, I could swear something was off. I've been flipping back and forth between this and Overwatch to find the difference. Maybe I'm wrong and it's just been awhile since I've played an FPS.

I've been waiting for ages for this to get story mode and leave early access. The time has come!

Here's hoping they finish the remaining 3 episodes.

Now this is super sad to hear. Have people tried spamming the Steam forum about it? Mouse acceleration feels woeful.

Is this game completely inscrutable in the fashion of other popular survival games (Ark and 7 Days to Die for example?) I want to at least have some idea of what Im supposed to be doing.

I mean, in Sandbox you are literally just trying to survive. I found it pretty easy to understand and pick up, the menus and descriptions pretty clearly label what everything does.

Story Mode sounds quite focused and gradual in its introduction so I expect the answer would be no its not as bad as those in that regard .

Looks fun. I wish it had co-op in the survival mode. I will look at some videos of gameplay and see if I can squeeze it into my gaming budget!

No Co-Op in Survival? bummer. Are they planning on adding that in the future?
Still may pick it up though. Looks awesome and I love these types of games.

It's much less baffling than most other survival games set in scifi or fantasy/horror settings, in large part because it takes place in modern times (albeit one where electricity has failed) in a perfectly natural situation. You just need to stay warm and find food, you aren't building a base or anything you can sleep in most abandoned buildings or even outside if you're prepared. Depending on the difficulty you play on there may be wild animals that will attack for a bit more danger while you're outside.

Once you get the basics down there tools to craft and a number of fun challenges that will have you attempting to do a specific task or survive a particular circumstance but they are all pretty logical and straight forward.

The story is in! Yes!

I really enjoyed a few hours oft his game back in the day. I got it for something like $10 so it was well worth it even then. Glad Hinterland kept at it and has begun releasing the story. I'm very excited to play this now, so I'm installing it again for the first time in something like two years.

It's logical realistic survival. If you have an idea of what you would do to try and survive in a freezing winter forest environment, it's probably what you have to do here

Bought this on early access years ago, nice to see it come out, I haven't touched it since then.

Same thing for me, bought it on a whim played 10 minutes and stopped. Decided to wait for full release... and BAM I see this post today.

Will download it and give singleplayer a shot when I get home.

If it makes you feel any better, you probably gave it brain damage after throwing your rock at it and hitting it in the head. After you release it, it will become easy prey for the wolf in the woods who will utilize the nurishment from the rabbit to murder you in your sleep.

This legit simulated, or you're talking the real life consequences?
