Undertale is [has won] the GameFAQs Best. Game. Ever. poll

Rematch: Best video game character of all time?

Results are only viewable after voting.
That has to be a parody post. I was accepting the crazy until I got to the sig. Who would post that seriously?

Just a parody, right? Please

Someone else ITT said it's a copy/paste from another forum where somebody posted that without irony.

This poll is clearly influenced by a Pro-Cowboy/Anti-Aquatic agenda. No other reason that Lonestar was chosen over Vinny and Spike. Shameful levels of bias on display here.

Cool that Undertale is getting some more love, even if some people are getting butthurt. Besides, it's not like OOT (or OOT Link) haven't won a shit ton of these polls already. Let another game have some glory.

The original Zelda was my favourite game of all time as a chid. So I was super hyped for LttP but found it to be a crushing disappointment, and it still sits near the bottom of my list of Zelda games. Then OoT came and blew me away, and became my new GOAT. I never once felt like OoT was a remake of LttP. Not even slightly.

Opinions, man. They're crazy.

Yeah I can understand that. For me ALTTP came out when I was 6. I had tried the original Zelda but it was so hard, Zelda II was cool but I couldn't' understand it. Then Sometime after it came out I played ALTTP and it was magical for me. The one game I've played every year since 1992.

When OOT came out I loved it, but I'll always feel it is the '3D remake' because it has the exact same game structure.

Yo, hold up.
Set aside this Game of the Forever debate, did I just read Vinnie and Spike lost to Lonestar?

Entire poll invalidated.

Having never played Undertale, and with no interest in ever doing so, I still really want it to win.

We need to all prepare to post highly-inflammatory, gloating threads about how glorious SJWs just shit on every major gaming fanbase ever.

Dude. Please tell me where in those posts we say it is "Earthbound", "life changing" or "GOAT" - let alone the other things you mention.

It sounds like a very good (not perfect or GOAT) game which is a breath of fresh air in terms of style, creativity and tone. It seems irreverent and witty but also intelligent with a dark edge, and simple but clever mechanics. I've spoken to a friend who said it does a handful of very innovative narrative things, and that it's just on-the-whole a really nice game. Not some epic masterpiece.

Also it is £6 and evidently very simple. Which is a deal-making factor for lots of gamers.

There are lots of reasons people should try it.

I have no doubt it's a great game and it's on my radar, but I kind of agree with him. Everywhere I go I see them talk about undertale being the most revolutionary indie game to come out in years. They're hyping it up as literally this amazing game that no other game in recent existence can compare to.

Again it could very well be that amazing I haven't tried it yet, but when the community is actively trashing other games and series to promote their agenda, it just lacks maturity. If the game is good let it be good on its own merits rather having rabid fanboys shove it down our throats.

And yes I am aware this kind of attitude exists in many communities, but I haven't seen this much dedication towards a game in a long time.

I've yet to play Undertale but I'm glad it's winning just because it's making people like this platinum mad

I participate in this poll every year and it's complete trash. Not saying Undertale isn't good, because I haven't played it, but the polls on GameFAQs are usually BS as a whole. I've been a member for 16 years and have voted in most of the daily polls.

The forums also especially went downhill after the merge with GameSpot.

I generally don't go out of my way to make people angry.

But that doesn't mean I don't find myself happily enjoying when people like this get super mad.

At any rate, Undertale is a fantastic game, and it deserves the attention, even if it's not my personal favorite. (That would be Earthbound.)

Until very, very recently my internet home turf has been the GameFAQs Contests Board, although I've never really cared about the contests. It just sort of happened. I've been there for seven years. Many of those guys and gals are really cool and I've met plenty of them IRL.

I haven't followed this thread, but I figure there have probably been at least two posts about "those contest nerds must be losing it." That's what I saw with the L-Block and Draven shenanigans, too. So I figured I'd just take the opportunity to defend them. Nah, they're all laughing or shrugging. The real GameFAQs weird folk are the ones that normally haunt game boards and then invariably show up when stuff like this happens and act like someone is kicking their dog. It gets uncomfortable and so I check out whenever it's contest season.

Can I just say how grateful I am that I know the evil SJW boogeyman who wants to take my games isn't real? These people must be so paranoid all the time

Lol, free speech. Do these people know that Trump wants to close down the internet?

Again - I'm not pushing that narrative. I see what you're saying too, I see those oover-lovers of the game. And I haven't played the game yet, just spoken to close friends who have played it. But I was making it clear to the guy that the game seems to do some really interesting stuff - like, interesting to the whole medium.

I doubt it's a perfect #1 GOAT masterpiece - but it doesn't need to be. If it is a very fun game, while doing some interesting things with the videogame format, then that makes it important in some measure.

But you shouldn't IMO You shouldn't let anyone tell you what a good game is in your opinion not matter how much you read into their assessment of another game you've not played, that's my point. PLay it decide for yourself and pay no mind to stupid polls.

The poll means nothing, all I was asking if it's really as good as Ocarina. With physical games i'm cool with spending my money willy nilly because I can easily get it back. I'm more wary with digital ones. Obviously Undertale has had a great reception and I would have no problem handing my money over for it but if it wern't for that reception I wouldn't gamble my money away. There's nothing wrong with being cautious with your money.

Well on Steam, refunds are super easy now, even easier than physical goods (albeit with more restrictions - no more than two hours played, and must be refunded within two weeks).

There is a demo if you are curious http://undertale.com/ If you even remotely like the demo, I'd get it cause the game just gets better from there.

A five page thread about a GameFAQs poll. Slow day today.

we're all just waiting for the smash bombs to drop tonight.

Oh don't worry i'm going try Undertale out at some point, I have no worries about it being good. I was just responding to someone who said I should ignore reviews and reception about a game and just go for it. I do this quite often as it is but all I wanted to know is if people actually view it as on par with Ocarina.

The fact that it's £6 lets me rest easy re the bolded. It sounds like it's priced perfectly, which is rare these days. And if you buy it on Steam you can get a refund now, remember?

Yeah but read the rest of my post. This isn't about Undertale i'm just responding to the guy who said I should ignore reviews and reception.
I am interested in playing Undertale but my backlog is flooded, literally got 200+ games to get through first.

It's not as good as Ocarina, it's quite quaint. But right now we're dealing mostly with trolls from /v/ and a rabid userbase so yeah

I'm too scared to go into the thread, has anything leaked? I wanna go in blind.
Gamexplain just posted a video about some data in the latest Smash Bros update found by dataminers. I haven't watched the video since I don't want to be spoiled either but I'd steer clear just to be safe.

i feel the same way. it came out quite a while ago but only just noticed gaf being crazy over it like a month ago. it's niche enough that i think it's going to end up like spec ops the line is today where gaf in particular loves it but most people don't have an opinion or ignore it.

It already sold way more than Spec Ops did on launch, tho

And i don't really agree with that thinking. Undertale is special.

Something about this game didn't hit me the way it was supposed to. Most of the individual elements (music, art) fell flat for me, and I couldn't help feeling either manipulated or bored with the story and characters. It may be that expectations got the better of me, since I played this a good bit after the hype train had got rolling after release. I understand that the meta-structure is innovative, but for me, the things the game does differently don't really make the experience more fun.

Godspeed to those who like it, and those GameFAQs polls are really about maintaining a royalty, so they could use a shake-up now and then.

The forums had a bad reputation from the very beginning.

Thanks for the heads up. Accidentally came over to gaming side and was relieved to see everything contained in its own thread. I'll keep being careful.

There's constant threads on /v/ asking for people to not vote for undertale, but with that kind of reverse logic, everyone is voting for undertale and they're all getting mad by the results.

/v/ hates undertale, /vr/ on the other hand has 24/7 undertale threads.

The music is without a doubt my favorite aspect of the game!

Been following these contest for years, glad to see a continued variety of winners.

Ask the old crew at Gamefaqs and they'd just have Link or OoT winning every contest. Glad to see the game that won was a great one.

Nah, many of us tried our damnedest for different results, for a long time.

I'm not saying everyone, but when you have a large group bitching because Melee beat out FF7 you know that people are extremely set in their ways.

Undertale and Draaaaaven were plenty of evidence of this, the Melee result was just the cherry on the top; way too many of B8ers just get REALLY upset when their brackets fall apart.
