"I do indeed have "sources" working with development kits, though the information is not flowing as freely as you may assume. ... The details you seek, specifically clock speeds, SPUs, ROPs, FLOPs, TUs, etc, I do not possess. I would've certainly leaked them, if it would not compromise my sources' position. The V5 dev kit seemed to still be focusing on 3rd party engine optimizations, efficiency, etcetera. Perhaps including a 5-15% performance boost as well. A "transitional console" would be an apt description based upon what I've gathered thus far. No outrageous power claims, as Orbis & Durango will definitely outclass it. (the Durango much moreso, as MS have been imbibing the Mark Rein laced punch) The strength will, as I said previously, be in proprietary engine development. The Wii U can still perform visual effects that the PS3 & 360 cannot. Which is only to be expected, why anyone here expected less is beyond my comprehension."

To the statement:
"I get impression we are being duped into thinking this is a really weak console..when in fact its going to be at least 50-100% more powerfull."

he responded with:
"Correct, & in some instances much more capable. Btw, both the tablet & console form factors are not quite finalized. Expect some changes at E3."

Nintendo's output on Wii U and 3DS will probably be lower than ever before. If they can't get third-parties on-board, this will probably be the first gen where they actually lose money.

Nothing from the AMD meeting, I assume?

I don't know about that.

Wii U is weaker than Xbox 1, after all.

I've never played an earthbound game :(
I want to but I don't have the old consoles to play them on. See Nintendo! You have a potential customer if you decide to rerelease these games!

We already had a post up above pointing out why it likely will never happen.
Basically Nintendo of West's lawyers won't let them release the game as is because of all the alluded copyright infringements and the guys in Japan won't (let them) change it, so it won't happen.

(only glanced over the article, if I got it completely wrong you may buy me drink)

If i had the time, i would try to seek some of these investors, and lobby them by mail to ask some questions about AMD business with Nintendo, the Wii U GPU, etc.

It would be weird to not have any news, even vague, from it, like "we expect new incomes thanks to our supplying of the new Nintendo home system GPU <insert a nice tidbit like that we've been designing & customizing with their engineers since XX months yadda yadda".
Yeah, the event is nearly over now. There's been nothing, nada, about Wii U. The gaming channel was discussed briefly and generically though.

There are some more AMD IR events in May as well, so if you wanna do some lobbying that's that: http://ir.amd.com/phoenix.zhtml?c=74093&p=irol-calendar

Make it end... make it stop.

7 weeks.

but of course, this has been posted here days ago

This thread needs news so badly. Only a week until the investors meeting at least...

Capcom's other reasons for putting MH Tri on the Wii beyond cheaper development costs was kind of baffling. Fortunately, it makes it seem like Capcom won't dismiss the Wii U so easily as the next potential candidate (even if the next console MH goes multiplatform).

Capcom's reason was that Nintendo would publish and market the game in the west.

I'm not banking on it, but I wouldn't be incredibly surprised if the Wii U actually ends up being a big enough leap in power for most people to go "Woah, I should probably get that."

Those Nicalis comments about the Wii U still being competitive on a power level in 5-10 years gives me hope, although Nicalis isn't really a company that pushes hardware.

Thanks for the link :)

Let's hope the channels of communication will be less closed after E3. And it's annoying that we've got nearly nothing from IBM & AMD since one year, not even a bit of teasing with vague statements and confirmations, like "we're at hard work to design the perfectly suited GPU for the Wii U system".

This generation made me realize I just don't give a shit about Capcom anymore. Nothing they make interests me anymore.

I just want them to release a decent Castlevania game on the Wii U.
Yeah yeah I know :p

Wow, nobody here on GAF even cares anymore, do they? I did the same thing yesterday, not a peep.

After Superman, Batman, and IdeaMan, here's SummaryMan

10 cents joke of midnight

Well, somebody's gotta make sense of the chaos you Juniors keep generating!
;D

So long as the Wii U gets Resident Evil and Monster Hunter, I'll be alright with 3rd party support.

Capcom will never make a decent console Resident Evil game again, so why would it matter? :'(

Ah, yes, I found the article. Hm, I guess I'll never get to play the games :/

It's an alright game. Not too fond of the battle system.

Could be. We'll have to wait and see.

Well, I was mainly interested in them because of Smash. I just want to experience playing at least one of the games.

Can't offer news, how about the next step in my process of making a shopped image for the thread ?

See ? This shit happens when there's no new news. If I had had a bit more time this week the picture would already be done. I'll probably get to work for the one for the next thread immediately afterwards to get that one ready in time. Unbelievable how quickly these threads fill without any news whatsoever.

<3 that image

^lol the pics keep rolling in, nice!

I think I took my gif joke a little too far...

I'd click it.

Next do the whole Princess Mononoke movie and make all the Kodama's faces Reggie!

You can never take a gif joke too far, Well-Done!

You could try pirating it, but there would be a battle at every step you take if you do (or smth. similar). Nintendo invented everything, even anti-piracy.

The excuse for not bringing Earthbound to the US is crap. Parodies and satires are protected in the US.

The reason why it didn't come out here is because it was on the GBA.

I think I took my gif joke a little too far...

I know we have some friendly fun with him & all... I know that he positively reacted to all these fan attention & meme & internet hype, etc...

But imagine...

Imagine the guy, EVERY MORNING, in NOA headquarters, having to lost 30 minutes because of geek colleagues insisting to show him every gif's & movies from the day before...

Maybe he can't stand this anymore, maybe he is having a psychic meltdown, maybe he is crying in his bed, maybe he regrets the pizza-hut crowds JUST sending him suggestions about the lack of cheese on the Big Foot...

Think about it !!!!!!!!!!!!!! >< Be sensitive !!!!!!!!! ><

You're right...
*goes to make more Reggie gifs*

Things are changing :(

"Alright?" "ALRIGHT?"

But seriously, Earthbound is one of my favorite RPGs and it sucks with all the hurdles it apparently has to getting rereleased. At least Mother 3 has one huge understandable hurdle.

I only put two hours into it before quitting. It's not that it's a bad game, but rather not something I would want to play.

Well, I was mainly interested in them because of Smash. I just want to experience playing at least one of the games.
Same here, but it turned out to not be my type of game.

Why am I never in these pictures? I'm the one who brings life to these threads, so I deserve some respect. :(

Probably because of all the shit that goes on in this thread that has NOTHING to do with the Wii U.

This isn't a Nintendo in general thread. This is a Wii U thread.

Uh, pretty much everything we talk about has something to do with the Wii U, rather directly or indirectly.
From Nintendo's philosophies to announcements to just general speculation.

It'll be somewhat surprising one way or another. What I predict is they'll show 4-5 games that look identical to the level of current gen games. There will be pages and pages of gaf discussion rife with "nintendo fails again" comments. Then they'll show a single game the blows people away. It will only be marginally impressive on a technical level, but nintendo's artists coupled with their design prowess and 360+ tech will leave people floored.

Then we'll have months of back and forth of people saying "Look! See! That's impossible on PS360! Impossible I say! Look at dat!" and "No, that's like first generation 360 stuff. Good looking but overall unimpressive. Yawn. People clinging to this game are delusional and desperate."

It's all we have. And considering the Wii U is the future of Nintendo, we mostly talk about our hopes and dreams for that future.

And lol I'ma Han Solo.

Psychic meltdowns are hilarious!

Sledgehammer COO Michael Condrey talks about Modern Warfare 3 and the Next-Gen COD, with a tidbit about the Wii U

Q: Have you thought about what might be possible with next-gen Call of Duty? The Wii U is going to be out later this year and beyond that Sony and Microsoft will have something in 2013. Does that kind of get your creative juices flowing about what the technology would allow you to do?

Michael Condrey: Yeah, it's interesting. With every generation, you get to into that place in your current generation where you're really efficient with your hardware; you finally know how to maximize the hardware and technology. That's a really great place to be for a developer because you get to focus on the "what," like really the creative iteration of the "what" in the game and less on the "how" and that's nice. With any generational leap, early on in the cycle you start to focus on the how. "How do I get to do this on the hardware?" because you're learning it and it provides a challenge. At the same time, it's exciting. It offers new innovations and more horsepower and all of those things. It's sort of having one foot in each. In some ways I'm like "Man, what we've got right now is really amazing and really powerful, we know what we're doing and we can create and iterate better than before."

What's coming next is super exciting. I was in presentation a couple weeks ago, and it reminded me. They are calling this the eighth generation. The next generation will be called generation 8; there have been eight hardware transitions and with each one it brings unique opportunities and challenges. I think the future for the industry is exciting, but at the same time I'm really proud of what we've done with this one.

Evasive maneuvers to not answer precisely to the question about Wii U SPOTTED :D
But he is rather enthusiast about the next-gen systems, so let's hope we'll see some good results on the new Nintendo console !

You have a great talent for looking into the future.
Either that, or we're all getting predictable.

What truly shines around here is when predictable stances are expressed in unpredictable ways.
