Or is it just one of Phil's balls in my throat?
Dem Portal sales.

Not surprised that the first batch of a new piece of hardware sells, but also not surprised if a notable amount is scalpers.

Will be interesting to see this in month 5, 6. PSVR2 also had a good launch IIRC and it has dropped massively now (going by some numbers in the european sales threads recently).

Series S at $149 with Headset at Costco

At $150 it's worth getting as a streaming box because it supports Dolby Vision. Too bad it doesn't have a disc drive, it would have been undercutting every dedicated 4K UHD Blu-ray player because you aren't getting Dolby Vision support from any $150 dedicated player. The PS5 does not support Dolby Vision and most likely never will.

Too bad Costco pricing like this is super local, I doubt it's a nationwide promotion. Does it come with any free Gamepass?

I cry about Xbox and hate PlayStation.
damn If i were COD devs now, i definitely will put even less effort on the upcoming "sequels" lol

I wonder how far they can go.

The series s at $150 is a no brainer for anyone who wants to play any games that are not on Playstation..

That's lower than most used ones.

I was at Costco yesterday and I did not see this so it might be regional

Switch basically had a late 3DS level November it seems.
Pretty disappointing hardware numbers all around. At least the Switch has the excuse of being old hardware in its 7th year on the market but for PS5 and Xbox Series consoles these aren't good results, especially Xbox as they already had a dismal November last year.
Let’s hope hardware numbers for December look better.

Xbox sales suck compared to both PS5 and Xbox One as well

The fact that they sell the same units of the 7-year old Switch is still laughable as people know that Switch 2 is just around the corner and still, the discounts are not as big as Microsoft's
I didn’t see any OLED Switch deals, shit is still like $359. Meanwhile xboxes are on firesale for $149 and $349.

Told you guys ms overstocked and lost November. They are trying to sell excess stock the whole December.

Looks like it's nationwide but in-store only so YMMV. If you want one of these, I would go to Costco ASAP

I still don't know if this comes with any free Gamepass or not, if it does, then it's dirt cheap for what you get

Good to see Star Ocean Second Story R chart, although wish it were higher considering the terrific critical and fan reception.

Hopefully the positive word of mouth makes a lot more people pick it up. It's the best HD-2D JRPG ever.

Hopefully Sony and MS (especially) have a really good December. We need to see growth!

No way the bubbles suddenly burst.
Not worried about Sony. This isn't their strongest region and their console has plenty of life left in it. They'll also have Slim model sales for December.

Xbox, on the other hand, is in very bad shape. No bubble to burst there.

I don't think PS5 will have any major YoY decline although I still kind of question the price of the new Digital at $449. It should probably be $399 or at least throw in a cheap game if it's going to be $449.
PS5 will probably have notable declines in Q1 as its comparing with the end of shortages.
Are you shocked? It’s a very niche spin off of a VERY Japanese title.
Star Ocean is a very niche and Japanese title too no?
Wait till you see Persona 3 after all the marketing making it look like an Xbox exclusive.
I don't think Xbox having a marketing deal will effect it too negatively. It'll still be available on PC and PS.

Not really? Epic and Remedy made the decision to make this game unavailable to normies, with no physical on consoles and no Steam. They went out of their way to not sell their game. Epic was willing to fund it (probably at a loss) to push their game store that literally no one wants, and Remedy accepted Epic's money. This is the result and it's very likely in line with their expectations. You want to blame someone, blame Epic and Remedy for deciding their game is to good for normies to have normal methods of buying.

FWIW, Alan Wake is a niche franchise that hasn't had a new mainline game since the late '00s. To many newer gamers today, it's practically an unknown.

And it's still done ~ 900K across the available platform within the launch month/period. That is not shabby or bad at all. I'd even say it's probably within or slightly beyond expectations considering the aforementioned and no physical on consoles.

PS5 will probably have notable declines in Q1 as its comparing with the end of shortages.

That's fair. Next Q1 will definitely be below last Q1 for those reasons alone, at least in some markets like America. I feel PS5 has much greater variety in sales trends within global markets than Xbox and even Nintendo, though. So it's pretty difficult to ascertain what trends will be like in one market simply by looking at say the U.S (outside of places like maybe UK, which are largely similar to the US in sales trends).

I don't think Xbox having a marketing deal will effect it too negatively. It'll still be available on PC and PS.

Dunno. There's been literally little to no mention of PlayStation at all for Persona 3 Remake outside of Japan, so the only PS owners who would even know of the game are people already fans of the IP within enthusiasts spaces. And as a remake of an older title, it's probably not going to benefit much from WOM on PlayStation platforms, either.

The P3 marketing with Xbox has basically mirrored the COD marketing Sony usually does. However, even with COD, ABK were able to do "general" adverts where platforms weren't listed. Sega/Atlus have not done a single such advert for Persona 3 Remake; both on their end and Microsoft's the ads only list Xbox in terms of console platforms. So for the uninitiated they are really painting the impression this is a console exclusive.

That's likely going to lead to some rough sales on PlayStation and since it's a Day 1 Game Pass game, it's not like Xbox B2P sales will be impressive, either.

It’s not in a very niche sub genre (tactical)
Yup. Persona is far more popular than Star Ocean these days. But the latter charted because it's a full blown JRPG and a good one at that. Whilst also recieving largely universal critical acclaim.

Starfield playerbase hold is impressive for a singleplayer game, even now in mid December 3 and a half months after release it is still the most played singleplayer only game on Xbox's most played chart at #16 overall (next highest singleplayer only game is Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora at #28, while the singleplayer + co-op Baldur's Gate 3 is at #21)

I think this is pretty dramatic from Xbox a few months after raising the price to $550.

PS is more or less fine for now, but 20% declines from here on in for the last 4 years of the gen is going to be a fucking disaster. No one wants this. You will see price cuts. Mark my words.

And while exclusives will help, they just launched the biggest exclusives in the history of their first party. Spiderman is bigger than GOW, TLOU, Uncharted, Horizon and only behind GT in overall sales. And the PS5 still saw a 20% decline the next month. Exclusives sell consoles, yes, but this is a price issue first and foremost. The core audience that makes up the first 40 million already have the consoles. now they need to go after the late adopters who are not going to buy $500 bundles. Sorry.

I'd change the bolded to the first 50 million for Playstation. After that point, the next layer of people are looking at $400. Remember that Sony raised the price of the PS5 DE to $450.

Just realised that Persona 5 Tactica did not do well...

Persona 5 is maybe a top 5 game for me all time. I did not buy Tactica or Strikers... and have zero interest in them milking the game further. I would have paid them 10 dollars as an upgrade for the PS5 version, but they created no upgrade path and no save game carry over.

The amount I'm souring on Atlus can't be measured.

You took that shit right outta my head. I think what we got this gen with over 3 years of cross-gen games is just the beginning of what is to come. And I expect when the PS6 comes along, we will be seeing cross-gen games on it well into the 5th year of that platform. Even if that means the PS5 just becomes a reconstructed 1080p machine.

And as such, the PS6 would come into the market at a premium. I am thinking around $7-800 in its launch year, and $5-600 a year later. and another $100 price drop the following year.

This would be the WORST thing Sony could ever do if it happens. Why mess up a good plan with something wacky like this? The highest the PS6 can be is $600 at launch.

That’s great I’m going to call costco tomorrow because $150 is great for a Christmas gift or whatever

idk if $150 for the thing is neccesarily a crazy good deal. They've been offing them for $200 at one time or another for a long time. It reminds me of the PS1 mini situation where the price kept getting lower and lower, but even at $30 people were saying it had to go lower.

Do you know what would happen if PS5's were suddenly $350? It would make the running of the bulls look like a dwarf pride parade.

I agree. The x Diablo bundle for $350 is a much better deal.

It comes down to software sales and subscription rates. If they can release a PS5 handheld and sell the PS5 as an entry level gaming device with largely the same games as the PS6, that means you can sell the PS6 as a premium machine with high margin to core gamers.

If there isn't any competition, core gamers will buy it, meanwhile you're still selling games on the handheld and entry level device.

The PS2 was eventually as cheap as 100 dollars. The PS3 was never less than $269, though the wii dropped to 129.

The PS4's cheapest was $299, though I think it is safe to assume had it not been for the pandemic, it could have dropped to as low as 200, with the PS4 Pro dropping to 300 and the PS5 digital starting at 400 and the PS5 starting at 500.

I fully expect Sony to redesign the PS5 and release a super slim with additional cost savings and if they can get it to the 200-250 range, I think it'll sell a historic number of units in addition again to a handheld version.

If Microsoft drops out of the market before the PS6 comes out, fully expect the PS6 to be significantly more expensive.

Portal beat out the Steam Deck OLEDS? Amazing.
Lol at the fact that people think Steam Deck is actually selling well .

It's going on 2 years & the only sells data we have is " multiple millions" as far as we know it sold a million in 2022 & a million in 2023 "multiple millions" lol

Certainly depends on things like inflation by the time PS6 arrives.

$600 = 20% increase over $499. Inflation will likely be well over 20% between 2020 and a proposed next gen launch of 2028.

People need to brace for the idea of $700 consoles. And I think there will be enough demand for them. But I also think cross-gen will be an even bigger thing than it already is. We may never get true exclusives on PS6 for a very, very long time.

Ps3 12 gb launch at 200 usd, also are you ignoring the long periods as the ps4 was 199, as both it and the xbone were both 199 for months at a time in 2017 2018 and 2019
