So I think that Moffat has had a good run. I hope he steps down after series 8 to focus on Sherlock. Gatiss should focus on Sherlock too.

I want Armando Iannucci but assuming we can't get him, who do you guys want next?

Pretty sure they wouldn't give it to someone who has never written for the show before, or really anything in that genre.

I'm hoping Broadchurch keeps Chibnall busy.

Iannucci showrunning a children-focused humanitarian science-fiction show would be a sight to behold. Can't stop thinking about that now.

But... there shouldn't be any question about this, right? In The Curator's dialogue he very clearly implied that he is The Doctor some x amount of regenerations from now having taken the face of "an old favorite" for fun. Why is it so hard to just trust that?

I seriously don't understand why so many people are confused by this. It's all there pretty plainly in the dialogue yet so many people seem to think it's meant to be ambiguous. He's just doing the whole "I shouldn't be telling you this so if anyone asks you didn't hear it from me. I'm just the humble old Curator!" thing.

No idea who that is but you can extract from this that if he's directing episode 3 and then coming back 2 episodes, those two episodes in between will probably be a two-partner. Maybe those Dalek episodes that were rumoured awhile back?

I think it's a perfect fit. Right now he's working on a book called Tongue International, which he calls 'a satirical fantasy about a privatized language'. His sense of humor would translate perfectly to Doctor Who, and he would have no trouble coming up with moral lessons for the children. Give him all of time and space to play with and it could be great. More importantly, it would definitely be something distinct from RTD and Moffat.

Is he any good? I really wouldn't know.

Oh I agree. It would be hilarious. Hope that could happen but it obviously won't.

The Time War has served its purpose, and it's probably not necessary any more.

Yeah, a new generation is hooked, now they can bring back the weird dudes wearing robes and giant golden helmets. In all seriousness given Moffat's love of the messiah aspect of the Doctor I would have guessed he was the most enthusiastic of the two about Gallifrey being gone. (fake edit: I just remembered about levitating Jesus Tennant and I recant my last statement)

Plus what better place to resolve it? One of the biggest episodes in the shows history, if not the biggest, and one that will get rewatched for years to come. All revolving around a plot point RTD created. Surely that's a compliment more than anything.

I saw this last night and I am a little confused. The entire Dalek Empire was wiped out by....."crossfire"? For serious?

The way it looked, considering how tightly packed together the ships were around Gallifrey, the explosions from a couple ships going up would probably have started a chain reaction?

Plus, the planet suddenly blinking out of existence I'm sure would have caused some sort spatial disturbance that caused whatever ships weren't blown up by their own lasers to crash into each other?

Maybe?

There was a pretty big boom, at any rate.

Were Daleks at surface level also sent along with Gallifrey? Or did the Doctors have much better isolation technology? 'Cause if they did, they should have just make the Daleks disappear.

The line of thinking behind RTD creating the Time War and the "destruction" of Gallifrey and the Time Lords was always more "all that shit is SUPER CONFUSING and everyone would be happier if it wasn't there to get in the way of our stripped down reboot", rather than "man, the Time Lords suck, fuck those guys".

I mean, it's obviously a little bit of the latter because they are the show's embodiment of nofunallowed.jpg, but that can always be improved. So I doubt RTD is gonna be fussed now that Who is well and truly accepted into the mainstream in all its glory once again. The time for the show to apologise for itself has passed, and I bet RTD would more than agree with that assertion.

In the case of old Who, though, there's a very direct correlation between the level of Time Lord bullshit & quality of the show. The show even started getting better when they dragged McCoy's Doctor away from it and started injecting the mystery again! It's not even the stuffy no fun allowed attitude, but it's that it instantly diminishes how special the Doctor is. The TARDIS is no longer special, but just becomes one of many - and an outdated one with less features, in fact. Etc etc.

That's my great fear, really. The Time Lords provides a very easy, accessible route for a lead writer to guide the show up its own arsehole incredibly quickly. It especially worries me next to Gatiss probably being next in line to the throne, as he's a man who describes himself as having a "terminal case" of nostalgia, so he might try to do stories like the Time Lord heavy ones of old out of affection, and sod that.

That said, Gatiss' favourite era of Doctor Who is the Pertwee era, which had no Time Lords to speak of other than The Master and for a large chunk of it no TARDIS, so...

....so i am having a blue screen of death right now on my brain !

Someone said that the Doctor can only regenerate 12 times ... but CAPALDI !

...but now the
War Doctor is a Doctor
and a friend reminded me that 10th regenerated into himself !

So that means that 9 is now 10, 10 is now 11 AND 12 and 11 is now 13 !

WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHH

Where did we hear that??

It's been rumoured for ages. It started when he told an interviewer he was a fan of the show - he cast Sylv in The Hobbit because he had fond memories of the 7th Doctor, and even owns one of his original costumes that he bought at auction. He said in the interview he'd do an episode in exchange for a new series Dalek, no other payment required. Somebody then asked Moffat in an interview & Moffat said it'd be a steal and they'd of course build him a Dalek.

The rumour mill indicates after this they genuinely started talking - quite possibly through McCoy - and that it's actually going to happen. He even appears in the classic Doctors anniversary thing they produced. He loves the show.

This is being dealt with at Christmas; it's no spoiler to say as Moffat has been going around saying it in interviews this week - going into Christmas the Doctor is facing his final death, he can't regenerate again. But somehow, he'll escape...

I've just realised that what they did by removing gallifrey was exactly the same as what happened at the end of Blink.

GOD MOFFAT STOP REUSING STORIES.

Day of the Doctor is "Just this once, everybody lives" on a grand scale.

To be honest, this takes away the "Just this once..." that The Doctor was comparing to! It'd be quite a short excercise listing all the people who actually die and don't;

- Lose their memory
- Are stranded in an alternate universe
- Die (of old age after a long happy life in the past)
- Die (in an aborted timeline and then come back to life)
- Die (in a dream)
- Die (and get brought back as an auton)
- Die (but the universe is reset so you come back)
- Die (as a Tesselecta version of yourself so it looks like you did die but you didn't)
- And of course, good old fashioned pavement blowjob monster.

I think you've also got to fannon it a little bit, in that pulling Gallifrey out of space time into a pocket dimension also caused space-time rifts that killed quite a lot of Daleks, so it's a bit more plausible.
