If you're a fan of old Who in general, it's worth giving the Jo Grant episode of SJA a watch. The only episodes I've watched are this one, the Tennant one, and the Brig one. Matt's in it as well. It's worth a watch. Gotta keep in mind it's aimed at six to ten year olds, though. Warning: features a retcon about the Tenth Doctor's 'grand tour' before regenerating that will make some hate it even more! It is a bit of a lovely tribute to that era of Who, though. Plus, Sarah meeting 11!

I saw the first series of SJA, and never really got around to moving on from that. Not for any good reason - I rather liked it.

Half-random thought related to popular companions: Who owns the rights to Benny Summerfield?

I do like the idea that Ace, the anarchist, ended up a charity magnate!

"This is Jack. Jack's parents are poor, and he is deprived. The poor child hasn't seen an explosion in over a year. Help us help Jack. There is a barn near his house. Let us blow it up. For Jack. Because children need explosions."

Virgin, I think. The whole reason she became her own character was because Virgin lost the rights to Doctor Who but had enough rights to Bernie that she could have novels and stuff of her own without them getting sued. Fox could do a Grace series if they wanted to in the same way.

An aside - Clyde from SJA would make a great companion. Always thought it'd be cool if he ran into the Doctor again, seperate from the confines of that show. Actor that plays him seems cool, and he's a fun character with a strangely good rapport with both Tennant & Smith's Doctors. Weird for a kids show, but he is an older actor - 25 I think - just has a babyface that lets him play a 16/17 year old.

I think the most lovely think about that Sarah/Jo/11 episode of SJA is that the resolution of the show (while typical RTD 'emotions are wonderful' stuff) relies on flashbacks to things that happened on TV 40 years prior... and they showed it to a bunch of children, with success! No other show on the planet could do this. Doctor bloody Who.

Whaaaaa?

Oh, you need to watch yourself some Trickster episodes.

In fact, here's a list you should be catching, given that you've already seen the Who crossovers:

Whatever Happened To Sarah Jane?
The Lost Boy
The Temptation of Sarah Jane Smith
Goodbye Sarah Jane Smith
The Curse of Clyde Langer

These are the essentials, but stuff like Invasion of the Bane, The Last Sontaran, Prisoner of the Judoon, Mark of the Berserker and The Mad Woman in the Attic are great fun too. TSJA was far better than it had any right to be. I wish it could have carried on for longer. :(

It's been well over two years now, and I still cannot wrap my head around Liz being gone. It's not bloody fair, it really isn't.

I am totally and utterly unable to read this page without crying my eyes up. I hope she knew how totally beloved she was.

Watching the Dominators at the moment, Troughton and Jamie are great as usual, but Zoe, oh my sweet Zoe, never has there been an assistant as amazing looking as her *swoon*

The Dominators... I would rather watch all of the Twilight movies back to back to the soundtrack of a Justin Bieber album while shoving a hot poker through my urethra than be exposed to that piece of shit again. It's such a pity that so many Troughton stories were lost while THIS one remains. Hard to believe this story is from the same people who gave us the Brigadier.

Well it was one of 2 Troughton DVD's I hadn't yet watched, the other being The Krotons (until Enemy of the World comes out on DVD soon that is anyway)

I'll admit its not the greatest thing I've ever watched, the villains are rubbish and the robots and stupid as hell, but it has Doc #2, Jamie and Zoe being awesome together. I'm really leaning towards them being my favourite trio on the show. I really do hope they go with a male assistant with 12 and Clara next season, it adds a good dynamic to the show. Also I'm crushing on Zoe, she's just soo cute and adorable.

So far this weekend have gotten through Greatest Show in the Galaxy, The Dalek Invasion of Earth, The Mysterious Planet, Planet of the Daleks, Doctor Who Television Movie and The Dominators, currently up to The Brain of Morbius and hopefully Resurrection of the Daleks after that.

My GF has a tiny crush on her, which is totally understandable. I mean, that catsuit!
Its not even the catsuit that does it for me, its just her face

I mean thats just cuteness in its most pure form. Plus she has great facial expressions and works well playing of The Doctor.

Slightly disturbing note though, while looking for a good pic of her, found My Little Pony fan art of the scene of her and Jamie on the TARDIS console :( I was ok with the Pony fans having their way with New Who, but going after Old Who, I feel like thats messing with sacred ground :(

Small thing I quite like... Looking at the daily countdown pictures on the DW twitter... Are they redoing the DW TARDIS icon thing from the current logo in the style of each classic logo? Took a few days to click but is rather sweet.

Oh SHIT! I just find they are doing the anniversary special in one of the cinemas in the outskirts of the city. BUT its on Sunday at 1:15 am instead of at the same time as the whole world WTF.
One of the screens is already full (the 1:00 am one, that funnily is the one dubbed in spanish when the whole 7th season is still without a dub here), so the one that is left is with original voices.
Another funny thing is that when Im going to buy the tickets its says that the movie is called:
dr-who-and-the-daleks.jpg

HAhahahaa, the shittiest mistake or maybe the nerd putting the listings trying to be funny lol

Car could be a problem, and I dont now if any of my friends will like to come (two of them are still in season 7, other usually comes on weekeds from Barcelona, but I dont know if that weekend he will be available and maybe the last one dont want to watch it so late at night).
So what to do.

I just watched the CiN clip.
10 put the fez on! :O

I like the fiery 9/10 one.

Obviously 6 is renowned for his...unique costume but seeing him suddenly made me excited for finding out what 12 is going to be wearing.

I'm mostly hoping it's not another suit. I'm thinking a nice knitted jumper for some reason. And a bowler hat as an Inspector Spacetime nod.

Surprised they haven't done it earlier. There's always going to be the biggest inconsistency in logos used on everything but having the little badge as an extra thing to tie it together.

I think the current Who logo serves the show best as a whole. It was probably designed with that intention too; it throws back to the traditional blockier font, unlike the wildly different logo treatments for Whos 7 through 10, plus it has an insignia which is really useful.

I'm trying to catch up before the big event. I just finished Tennant's run. It hit hard, how does Smith do during his run?

Better in some ways, worse in others. I consider it a massive improvement but it depends what you like about the show I suppose. It has heavier continuity and tends to broaden the mythology in a big way, throwing back to Classic Who more the closer you get to the 50th and generally expanding the scope of current Who too.

There's only one episode set in a London tower block, put it that way.

Ohhh, the twitter photos are different! And yes, it really looks like they are making the emblem for each one representing their logos. Really cool.

I suppose Hartnell will be simple white emblem with black bakground only.

EDIT Tried to crop them out. The quality is horrible and the twitter images seem to be done by an intern with little sense of desing but here they are from 6 to 10 (9 and 10 are the same and 11 is non existant in his photo, seems they didnt have the idea of the logos until halfway). Dindt help either that abload didnt work and had to use imgur.

Would love to do them bigger and with better image quality, but I dont have much time today. Does someone have the normal emblem at a good resolution?

Oh, you're Oxford too?

I was PISSED when they added the George St Odeon showings. I'm booked in to the Vue as part of the Oxford Uni Doc Soc, and it's going to be a total bugger getting there.

They only added the Odeon showings because the Vue ones are basically sold out, I'm told.

I guess he's saying that, whereas Sarah, Jo and the Brig are mainly 70s characters, Ace is very much rooted in the 80s, which is not an area of the show's history that the show's plundered much since, with the exception of Davison in Time Crash.

I've never been to the vue (cos its a bugger to get there) but the George street odeon is a pretty horrible cinema

The VUE is rather nice, and I agree about the Odeon, but convenience trumps all in this case. I might have been able to convince my housemate to give me a lift VUEwards, but he's away that weekend.

Cinesa? I´m going to that same session (1:15 in Coruña).

Yep, the one in Bonaire Valencia. Didnt know it was already dubbed, thought they did it first on Doraemon's Channel Boing or something.
Does the web where you bought the tickets say that the movie is Dr Who and the Daleks instead of Day of the Doctor?

Been contacting all my friends that watch Doctor Who and nobody wants to come. I will have to watch it all alone at the end, no? lol

Wasn't there supposed to be one more minisode? The Last Day or something? Anyone know when or if that's supposed to come out? For some reason I thought it was this weekend.

Just snagged some tickets for Day of the Doctor in a theatre :D. 9:45 PM on Monday though. I think the wait will be worth it.

Rifftrax guys got rights and did a Video on Demand riff of that movie. It's terrible. And Grand Moff Trakin is a terrible Doctor.

Yeah, I watched some of it some months ago and it was really bad. Its so funny that this exist though, who on earth thought this was a good idea.
Would love to hear the rifftrax version.

It seems to be the Aliens Ressurection of Doctor Who; "Our monsters are charismatic enough to carry a film on their own, we don't need to worry about the plot".

Uh... you do. You absolutely do.

Buffoon Ian Chesterton is kinda fun to watch in the same way that I often switch on an old Rathbone/Bruce Sherlock Holmes just to see Nigel Bruce characterise Watson as a plonker.

Terror By Night is sssssssso good in that respect

Rewatching the WWII story from Series 1, and it's interesting how much you pick up on when you haven't watched something since you were 13. The kids running back to London from presumably paedophile carers, the "sweat on my brow" guy having a gay affair with the butcher... Moffat certainly didn't hold back with that script.

His caginess about possibly doing a miniseries sounds pretty similar to his caginess from back in April about whether he's going to do anything for the 50th, that one interview from near the opening of this thread. :)

Of course, he probably ABSOLUTELY knew he was going to be shooting in a couple weeks from the time of that interview.

I didn't pick up on this part. I thought they were just orphans.

Where was this implied?

The Doctor asks why the kids weren't evacuated, one kid goes "we were, I went to work on a farm. There was a man...". Another kid says he was in a similar situation.

Obviously "paedophile" is being presumptuous but w/e

edit: proper transcript

DOCTOR: Of course I'm not a copper. What's a copper going to do with you lot anyway? Arrest you for starving? I make it 1941. You lot shouldn't even be in London. You should've been evacuated to the country by now.
ALF: I was evacuated. Sent me to a farm.
DOCTOR: So why'd you come back?
ALF: There was a man there
JIM: Yeah, same with Ernie. Two homes ago.
