Doom: The Dark Ages |OT| Mod City

I can't help but feel like this was cobbled together quickly. Seems like a lot of sounds and enemy designs / animations were recycled from Eternal.
Gun effects looked bland and lacking weight compared to Eternal. So maybe they rushed it out all while overcharging for it. Pretty staggering.

I take issue primarily with weight/sound and how the projectile effects come out.

Yeah. I refunded it. It's ok. Much like the weapons I'm just not feeling it. Have fun though!
Dunno man.

Guns and slayer both feel weighty to me.

Not Killzone 2 type controls, but everything seems to have satisfying heft to it.

It did took a few missions for me to recognise that. Due to shield bash etc it doesn't become obvious immediately.

Also, all the little objects in environments, they react when slayer jumps from height. Am busy finding vantage points and jumping over small stuff to send them flying.

Not sure how anyone who has played the game can say the weapons lack weight with a straight face.

Maybe we'll get a banging AAAA Quake in a couple years. Who knows. It's all speculation.
Maybe we will, but it'll be 5 years at least as they have just finished up on this title and have DLC still to deal with.

We've all seen the Bethesda leaked road map and as far as I'm aware Quake was not on it.

I saw a comparison between weapons from TDA and Eternal. The Eternal weapon sound is more meaty and full but the TDA sound makes me hear more details from beginning of the shot till the end.

I do wonder how substantial the DLC will be for this. Will we get more Master Levels in addition to paid content? The main screen doesn't have any of the live servicey stuff from Eternal. No weekly challenges. Nothing.

Dunno, but that leaked road map had DLC for year 2, so hopefully quite a bit.

The MS tax edition includes campaign DLC as well, although its kinda sketchy on what that actually is.

Hopefully its better than that pitiful excuse for DLC they put out for Starfield.

Moist says it's the weakest game in the trilogy. Better than most games.

In four hours the masses will have access. Prepare thyself.

Not to defend Magius' take since I haven't played the game, but a lot of the punch of a videogame weapon comes from the sound of the gun and the sound of the impact.

Pretty nice that even 30+ years later, the "worst" DOOM game is still a cool and fun videogame.

We were so close to Call of Duty DOOM... we should count our blessings. :goog_relieved:

Yeah, Hugo has just said that it's going to be "big campaign content", what that means exactly is a question mark, lol.

I definitely wish there was more than just a campaign. I'm sure they'll add SOMETHING else.

I know there are people out there that like to replay the recent DOOM games on harder difficulties to get all the unlocks or 100% it. But that isn't me, at least not majority of the time but I guess it depends on what the unlocks are in a game. So I definitely would like more content since as far as I know once I beat the campaign I'm probably gonna put it down and not come back until the DLC is released.

Not aware of the video you are referencing but on my system the neighbours put their house up for sale every time I twat a demon in the face with the flail. Zero regrets.

I'll drink to that.

Well, I 100% the first 3 chapters and it is great fun. Feels somewhere between 2016 and Eternal, but with parries instead of specific weapons for killing enemies.

I loved 2016, but didn't like Eternal at all by the end of it. Take from this what you want.

I'm in EST what time is this supposed to release? I'm wondering if I should try to play it tonight or just expect it to be a tomorrow thing

finished the doom ii "classic" last night now off to the doom 3 re-release from a couple years ago. should probably go back and do the doom 1&2 that just came out last year too. might actually do that first

Its weird reading so much negative speculation from people who have not played the game, and making stuff up that its made by the B team, and that its slow when it isnt. And that its the "worst" of the three latest Dooms. How would you even begin to know? Sounds like attention seeking look at me posts.

When all the time the game is freaking awesome.

I concur.

Never played the original doom (was a Turok, goldeneye, perfect dark, cod4 kid) but I remember Doom 2020 and every kill felt personal, like you're connected to the enemies who are a treat to kill.

Man, I remember exactly where I was when that was first teased / revealed. Shows how much it affected me, lol. I was like, "Oh... Oh god no." It was actually during my first QA position, so it was fun to be amongst a team that was like, "God I hope not!" But there were like 1 or 2 people that were like, "Hell yeah!" we shunned them, lmao.

So long as this is as far away from Eternal as possible then I'm happy.
Eternal, the best FPS ever made.. There was nothing wrong with it, you didn't like it because you didn't want to manage anything and you found it either hard or stressful. Game was perfection! You and the other Eternal haters don't even know what the definition of an arena shooter is!

it looks really low res on the pro, i know it has global illumination and new tech overall but compared to eternal this is super underwhelming resolution wise.

super bummed after crisp 4k like indy, forza and ac shadows

I wonder how many weirdos like me wish ammo didn't pop out of demonic enemies.

I find it sort of immersion breaking. I know most people think that's ridiculous for a game like Doom and I'm only nitpicking here but it's something I wish was different.

that sounds bad, didn't know that. didn't happen in the original dooms and picking up ammo after running low was a major factor towards the survival vibe, you know, being in hell and all. but this is what happens to all modern games unfortch.
